I decided a few months back to work on a B.O.M. project, and I chose the Imperial Splendor series from JoAnn's. The colors just work for me . . .
Anyway, I've noticed at the Joann's here in town they are changing out the B.O.M. projects. Neither of the stores carry any of the blocks anymore. The Joann's website still has many blocks available - I already have 5 of the 12 . . . but I can't find block 7 - the site says no longer available. I tried calling customer service, but of course they are closed for the weekend now . . .
My question is - did anyone get an extra block 7 that I can take off your hands? I'd pay full price for it.
If I can't find block 7, there wouldn't really be much point in continuing to purchase the remaining 6 blocks . . . I'd probably make pillows out of the 5 blocks I've got.
Or, if someone has finished that block, if it would be possible to scan and email the instructions, I could get the fat quarters to cut the pieces for the block myself . . .
Today I received the block 7 that Laura (housse301) found for me! Ye ah! Jumped on to the Joann's site, and ordered the other 6 blocks I needed, plus the setting kit. Hopefully I will get those fairly quickly!
Got my box! Yeah! The only thing I'll need to do now if find binding. They had binding in the stores, but I didn't really like the pattern . . . would have gotten it though, 'cause it was all folded, and ready to use, etc. But, will just go to Joann's here locally . . . I think they may still have the material by the yard. If not here locally, then at Joann.com.
Thanks, Kizmo. I started in on block 3 yesterday, but it is one with appliques, so I'm reading the instructions on that part . . . the green in the background is actually my bedspread, since I don't have a place on the wall to hang blocks . . . but I'll look for something!
Great job Nicole!!!! I like those colors too they are nice and warm to work on this time of year. I bought an entire kit to do from them too. Forgot the name I will have to look when I get home but they are really pretty. Keep showing the pics love to watch the progress ;) Cher
On this block the material was provided to cut the appliques. I had to trace the shape out on freezer paper, then trim with a 1/4" allowance. The edges are folded under and hand stitched on this one. I figure on the next one that has appliques, I'll try and do a zig-zag on the machine, and see how that turns out.
I do like the colors on this project. I still haven't decided which material to use for the backing or binding, but I have 9 more blocks to go, plus the setting kit before I have to decide. By then I'll have seen all the material in the project, and can decide which I like better.
Here is a closeup of the appliques. Like I said, I did hand stitches this time . . . I used green for them because it was a common color between the two applique materials.
Those are looking great. The name of the one I bought was Bohemian Treasures. from Joanns. I like them the look like they give plenty of directions. I bought the entire kit so when I am ready to do it I have them all. After seeing yours I just know I will love mine.
This pine green floral tone on tone? http://cgi.ebay.com/370477386641 I've bought this in several colors and it works so beautifully for backing. The print is subdued, almost a mottle/marble look from a distance, but there's enough contrast so that it hides quilting flubs. (of which I always have bazillions!)
I really like this seller - I buy almost all my backing fabrics from her - $9-11/yd and all of them have been scrumptious. She used to have a dark purple that might be a perfect match for the purple in this quilt, too.
When I went through that long stretch of making Texas themed quilts, I bought insane amounts of solid and marbled red - I don't prewash, but I was nervous by the time I finished quilting a couple of them - this crazy red and some pure white prints together! But I just tossed a bunch of color-catchers in the wash and they hardly even turned grey, much less red. And the white stayed bright white. :)
I am wondering if anyone has any leftover yardage of the black multifloral material - I think I only need about a fat quarter's worth, but I will be happy to buy more if you are willing to part with it...
Stu, sorry I didn't answer you sooner! The darker red you are referring to I think is the Wine Tonal . . . you can't find it under searches for Imperial Splendor anymore, but here is a link to the Joann page that has it listed under normal calico fabric . . . it has the same item number attached to it that is listed in the I.S. block instructions. http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/productdetail.jsp?CATID=cat2920&PRODID=xprd1131353
Toni - I am looking for the multi floral black (#1794858) material. I'll let you know if I can find it listed anywhere . . .
Some time has passed since these posts and I have now completed my quilt. I am wanting to make pillow shams and need a couple more blocks, any block. They are not available anymore so please if you have one left in your collection that you are not using . . .I would love to buy it from you.
I added an additional border in red tonal fabric to make my quilt larger. Not an exact match but it looks good. I will use that for the rest of the shams. Looks like I have found the blocks I need. Yipeeee Thanks, this site is great!
Thank you Helen. I was just on ebay and placed my bid for it. I looked yesterday and did not find it so it is a new listing. Wish I could just buy it now but it has 6 days on it. Thanks again. I am hopeful.
if there is no other bid on it - e-mail the person make an offer and he/she may just pull the auction. That is if there is no other bid. You know, cry a little, like i really really need this etc. etc.helene
I bought from Joann Fabric a BOM Imperal Splender last year. I don't have block #7 but when I bought I bought fabric from the store cause it was on clearance. Now that I am retired I am sewing the blocks. Does anyone have the pattern to block # 7 that they could email me?
I would love to buy the # 7 kit but I have looked everywhere and no one carries it cause it is an old kit. I would pay full price if anyone has an extra kit.
I came upon this website cause some one else was looking for block # 7 and she found one. I would love the pattern or the kit if anyone out there has one.
Thanks for reading.
I have 2 more blocks to do, then I have the finishing kit for the quilt top. Still trying to decide how to do the backing . . .whether I will be able to quilt sections at a time, or if I'll have to save up the $$ to take it to a LQS to do that part for me.
Has anyone finished this quilt. I am so upset. I finally made up my mind to finish this quilt (I bought these blocks in 2009) and i am missing a piece in the Setting Kit (the kit that finishes the top) I am missing a Triangle #3 Red Berry Leaf 22 1/2" (long side). I know i didn't misplace this piece. I have an extra piece but its a very small version of what i need. I have tried looking to buy a piece of material and make my own triangle but it has been discontinued. Would anyone have a piece of the Red Berry Leaf E1794890? I have googled it and i came across this forum. I hope no one else has this problem. I was so excited that i was going to finish it. Any help will be appreciated
Thanks Syrumani. I hope you have all the pieces in your setting kit. It is so discouraging to go that far and not be able to finish. I should check to see if all the pieces are there if I am going to take so long to complete the quilt LOL.
I just found this site, and was looking for some extra of the light yellow fabric from this collection. Any amount would be of help. I have quite a bit of three or four of these fabrics if anyone needs a bit, but I didn't get enough of the light yellow. Thanks in advance.
I'm gonna confess something . . . the applique parts I didn't exactly follow directions. The curved pieces usually do me in, too . . . so what I did, is I made the appliques with heat'n'bond, so all I had to do was iron them on where they needed to be.
I am so excited to find this chat site! I am working on the Imperial Splendor as a gift for my sister. I have 3 blocks to go and then the setting kit. I have stopped and started many times. It is so good to hear from you fellow quilters. I love the fact that I am not the only one who uses the heat and bond for the curved pieces!
Cher, that's a very unique was of setting the blocks, I really like it!! That gives me some ideas of how to combine some of my blocks if I ever get a home and get my sewing machine out of storage again!! LOL
Thank you all!
That design was from 2009 I think I loved the colors too and how it was all on point.
Oh Pat I hope it is soon for you. I know you will just love your home so much more because of all your going through.
The mortgage company ordered the appraisal, maybe I should have asked HOW LONG it's good for. I think the owners will drag their feet with the court estate stuff because they have an offer, maybe better than ours? who knows.
WOW that looks fabulous Nicole. Funny how it takes us so long to finish these projects mine took 4 years. I bought all the stuff back when I had my ACL replaced and was gonna be home 8 weeks HA that never happened. but we have completed the tops now to the finish line we go go go YAAAAYYYYYYYY
I'm thinking, once I get to the quilting it part, I'm just going to do in the ditch. The blocks are not perfectly lined up, so I can do the rows (made sure those were even when putting together), then do the block sides individually.
Unless I win the lottery, then I can get it quilted by someone! ^_^
I finished my block and now I'm assembling them. Got the setting kit, but now found out that the four corner triangles were not in the package. Does anyone have enough of the red berry leaf fabric to make the 4 corners? I'd really like to find this exact fabric. Thanks!
I don't have any to spare. I wish you luck finding it . . . it is a pretty fabric.
The only thing is, Barb, is that the borders go on after the corners. So, unless Snowquilts wants to . . . what's the right phrase - cut the corners off? . . . and have the border go around that way instead. No, that doesn't explain it . . . let me go get a pic of the corner, and what I'm talking about . . . (I know there is a word that describes it . . . it's gonna drive me nuts!)
From what I understand, it is the 4 red corner triangles (shown in the pic) that is missing from her setting kit.
Glad we were able to give you some kind of a solution Snowquilts. Hope the quilt works out for you. We would love to have you join us here - we are a fun group and always welcome "newbies" with open arms and help as much as we can... We would love to see a picture of your quilt!!!
So after I found a sutiable replacement fabric, I got an e-mail from "Joann Quiltblock", which is the e-mail address on the patterns. They had my 4 corners and are sending them out to me.
But I will try to join you all on other posts, too. Glad I found this site.
Hmmm . . . I wonder if they would still have enough yardage of some of the material for the back? I will have to get their information from the packets tomorrow and shoot them an email. Couldn't hurt to check!
Oh I am glad you were able to get them Nicole.
I messed up on mine and just bought something else it worked but would have liked the same material just the same.
Mine is Done just doing the hanging sleeves and binding now gonna put some crystals on it too
I folded it to the size of the rod and sewed the raw edge right to the quilt edge. I made two so there was a space in the middle for a third bracket . Then I hand stitched the folded edge to the quilt back and folded my binding and hand stitched it to the sleeve. It is not recommended to do it that way as it may stress the binding and warp the quilt but I hand stitch so tiny and tight together I don't think I will have a problem. But typically you would do it the way Linda said. Also if you decide after the quilt is done that you want to hang it it can still be done the way she said.
Thanks I love it and it took me so long to complete no because of difficulty just too many UFO's I am trying to finish.
Sorry Betty DH likes this one and made the rack for it so I gotta keep it lol
Hello All. Last night I finally finished my Quilt Top! I would work on it every now and again so it took forever. I am so happy to have it done. I had some problems with some of the fabrics in a couple of the kits in one block some of my pieces were just not there and then as I was getting ready to attach the last of the borders I found a huge flaw in the fabric. I carefully cut it and then sewed it back together praying I would still have enough length to finish... I did! Whew! I embellished it a little bit and put in some kitty cats, kind of a thing I like to do.
