You mentioned Dodo once... was this the only island Dodos were found on? Was this the last island Dodos existed? Just wondering why this island was called Dodo island... Were they slaughtered for food, fun or just because they were annoying?

I have to plead ignorant here as I had not even heard of a place called Mauritania... Mauritius is well known to me as several unique palms are from there.

Mauritiana is a rather large African country, don't know about palms there. Anyway, the Dodo was only found on Mauritius, it was a non-flying bird related to the pigeons, with a weight of around 12 kilo, it was killed for food and was an easy target, people would hunt them with a simple stick, it has been called at times 'stupid bird'...

Has palmbob ever heard about RESEARCH or SEARCH in the web? What kind of questions are these for educated, sophisticated, perhaps college graduates in USA?

NO TURF-HERE'S SOME EDUCATED QUESTIONS FOR YOUR DEFENSIVENESS.
WHY,HAVE YOU NOT TESTED YOUR NUCLEAR TOYS THERE AS HAS BEEN DONE WITH MANY PACIFIC ISLANDS DESTROYED FOREVER.
WHY HAVE YOU NOT SLEUCE MINED IT? BEING THAT THE MOST BIODIVERSE FLORA KNOWN TO EXIST (ANYWHERE) IS ON KANAK LAND,THE DYING ECOSYSTEMS OF NEW CALEDONIA?
SHOULD I GO ON ABOUT DUMB QUESTIONS OR EVEN DUMBER MONKEYS.
THIS FORUM IS NOT FOR EGOS,IT IS FOR INFORMATION EXCHANGE,GET REAL OR GO AWAY!
THERE ARE NO STUPID QUESTIONS,JUST STUPID PENGUINS :)
JUST ASK THE SEAL! "JUST,LOOK AT THEM"

AS ALWAYS A GREAT ARTICLE JJaques, thank you!

This is pretty far from the kindness and peacefulness of Mauritius and its folks...
