I feel pretty safe asking for prayers for our grand dog (dd dog) in this forum because I'm thinking if you're as attached to your pets as we are, you will understand. Amos is 10 and refuses to do his business on his run and has to go to the woods. As a result, about a month ago, he was bitten by a snake, vet seems to think it may have been a copperhead. After lots of vet visits and antibiotics, Amos is not getting better and has to see a specialist on Monday in Charlotte. Our city is having a St. Francis Blessing for the animals on Sunday. We will be taking our dogs and dd will be taking Amos and her other dog. Please keep Amos in your thoughts and prayers on Monday...thanks, vic

Amos spent the day in the hospital, was anesthesized, and cultures and biopsies were taken. He was able to come home this afternoon. He has stitches removed in 10-14 days (by local vet) and the results of all tests will take 7-10 days. I will let you know. DD and I would like to thank you all so very very much for all your prayers for Amos. They are definitely working. God Bless all - and thanks again...vic

AMOS UPDATE!!!!!!!! The cultures and biopsies have returned and no concrete information was found. The cultures were negative for both standard fungal and bacterial infections. Acid-fast bacteria is very hard to detect and dr. believes the next best step would be to treat for acid-fast bacteria s the lesions on Amos are representative of this instead of conducting more testing at this time. Acid-fast bacteria is very common in the environment, but if it gets into the blood (like via a snakebite), the negative results occur. If the anti-biotics he is prescribing today for this acid-fast bacteria prove unsuccessful for a few weeks, more testing may be needed to determine if it is an auto-immune disorder. Treatment for this is sketch because it reduces his immune system. So that is what is up at this point. Sandy, don't know why they didn't use anti-venom other than possibly because dd didn't realize there was a problem until leg started swelling. Amos never did act sick or hurt but leg started swelling she took him into vet who diagnosed snake bite. She saw the bite marks. Who knows how long it had been since he had been bitten at this point. The problem now is, he doesn't seem to be healing which is why he was taken to a specialist who will hopefully cure all these additional problems. Thank you so much to all who continue to keep Amos in your prayers. He is a very special dog. vic
