Time to start the "official" sign-up list for the November 2010 Bingo game!

The game will begin on Monday, November 8, 2010 - this will give me time to get the Bingo choices ready, as well as get ready for (and get over the state AV show this weekend in Kerrville). I will do my darndest(?) to get a list of choices out by tomorrow night.

I will be "caller" and lbrabec will be the "card holder" - (thank you, carpathiangirl, for volunteering . . . how about next game?). The "card holder" will not be a player in this Bingo - this is to keep things as fair as possible, and since Lynn volunteered . . . (hehe)

Prizes: If someone would like to donate a prize, please dmail me with details. Only broad details will be given on the thread regarding prizes – 2 $20.00 prizes, plant of choice, surprise package, etc. Prizes will be labeled as #1, #2, #3, etc. Once the “bingo” calls begin, the Bingo person will choose a number, and will be awarded the prize assigned to that number. The person donating the prize will be notified via dmail with delivery info . . . Need Input: Due to time of year, what are your thoughts of keeping the prizes non-perishable?

If anyone has any questions, please ask!

Here is the plant list, and ahead of schedule! Each participant should submit their “card” with 25 choices to lbrabec no later than Sunday night, November 7, 2010, so you have time to look over the list (still drooling over some of them). It is actually a picture of the first blooms from an Irish Flirt plant that I purchased during the club sale back in May. The glare of the lights does kinda make it look yellow, doesn't it?

Prizes...are the plants being used as bingo calls going to be prizes? I know sometimes in the past they were and sometimes they weren't. ...so, at least this time there's some basis for my confusion, lol.

A Bit Confused: The plants listed are going to be used as call numbers, that's it. So, when I start calling numbers, I will say something like . . . Today's call: 35. Streptocarpus - Jaco's Gem (before you look for it on the list, it is NOT number 35, and is NOT on the list . . . just an example)

The prizes are donations from DG members, and may or may not be plant material at all.

Does that make better sense?

heatherjoy, thanks for the wishes. I reciprocate. My wife had to smile when she read your best wishes. But with the name I use it is rather confusing. I love gessies in general and violets in particular + I love confusing people at first, thus the name.

BTW: Syrumani, will receipt of our cards be acknowledged so we know for sure they have been received. I sure will hate having played and won; then find out you never got my entry! (Yeah, right, Like that's going to happen. LOL

This sounds like fun. I won't be able to play this month, -- too far behind on things, but definitely in Dec. Can probably supply some prizes as well. Any consensus on perishable/non-perishable? IMHO shipping in winter is only a problem if it's bitterly cold (teens and below) or if items are shipped by slow mule train. Priority Mail is usually quite fine if you pack carefully and look for a run of days in the 30s or so.

There seems to be some confusion about how to send your bingo cards. In the past the numbers have been matched to the name.
If you prefer, just send me the names of the plants you pick and I will match them to the numbers.
It makes no difference to me,as long as you have 25 choices with no duplicates.I am sorry for any misunderstandings about this.

Hey there ladies! It's been a long while since I've visited the AV forum, but I got a d-mail from Ibrabec/Lynn who invited me over to check out Bingo. I'd love to join in on the fun ... I'll go select my 25 from the list and get a d-mail off to Lynn with my choices. I haven't played Bingo in almost 2 years and I'm not sure I remember how LOL, but you know me ... I'll muddle along and try not to get into too much trouble along the way! :)

I haven't been around in awhile either. I don't have any AV's anymore, I just pulled up my one and only AV from the Terrarium yesterday and threw it out ... it had grown long and tall and looked terrible, and I'm too lazy to cut it up and root leaves! The only Gessie's I still have are a Chirita tamiana that I got in trade a few years ago and a couple of standard Chirita that I got from Bluebird Greenhouse 3 years ago. They are barely hanging on. I don't have any stands set up with lights anymore because my house is just so small and so cluttered, there isn't enough room ... and I've become lazy when it comes to plants!

Oh, and I have this pretty Streptocarpus saxorum ("Streptocarpell") that I received as a cutting in trade a few years ago too! It stays out on my deck year round and I love it!

Pffffft. I shoulda known someone would know how to find that picture! Well, I was a couple of years younger there ... that bingo game had to be at least two years ago? I still look pretty much the same with the long stringy bleached blonde hair though, just a few more wrinkles to go with it ... and a few more pounds around the middle too! Aaah, but what can ya do?

Well, we're heading out to dinner and a Basketball game so will leave you with a photo of a beautiful sunset. This is what Helenethequeen gets to see on a daily basis since she is on the west coast of Florida ... and actually this picture was taken August 2006 on Longboat Key, Fl. Hi, all . . . finally done with the state show. Mostly unpacked. Have a few (dozen it seems!) leaves to pot up tomorrow. I'm cleaning all the dirty stuff tonite, so I'll have them ready tomorrow.

I will go thru and double check confirmations, so that I can get the smileys updated in the morning.

As for prizes . . . please hold on to them for now. What I will do, is assign prizes a number. As the Bingo's start coming in, the winner will pick a number, and that is the prize they get. The prize will be mailed directly to the winner from the donating person.

It has worked in the past, so why change what works!

As for Bingo hats, I'm glad someone found Lin's . . . now, Jan . . . Tommie . . . would you care to post your bingo hat pix, or should I dig out the old hard drive and find them myself? hehehe

(I'm pretty sure I have a pic of mine somewhere, too . . . )

The very first magic bingo hat pic I saw was of our sweet Makshi/Diane (who I just found out passed away recently.) I will play bingo in her memory, she was a kind lady, with a wonderful sense of humor and she will be missed here the garden!

Yes, a new hat please

Longboat Key is beautiful, beaches every day different. -although I am putting the heat on today.

I know Daytona as well Have friends living D. beach #4 building.

Chicken parm is the meal today and what I call "meals on wheels" freezer portions for day when I don't feel like cooking. DH needs his hot meals every day.

Bridge to Longboat Key is greeting you.

Beautiful shot Helene! We used to trailer our boat over and spend a week every summer enjoying the waters of Sarasota Bay. For many years we stayed at Sand Cay Beach Resort until they decided they didn't want boats on trailers taking up space in the parking lot, so we tried another place at the north end of the island. The last few times we were there we stayed at Bradenton Beach. We've seen that area change over the years, just like the rest of Florida. I love Mote Marine Lab, I remember when it was just one small building, now they have the aquarium and all the educational stuff ... really nice! We used to always launch our boat there at City Island to cruise the waters of the bay.

My Bingo card will be in asap. I've been having computer problems since sometime on Friday (I think it was Friday). It's DBF's laptop, just got it up and going and it crashed again. grrrr. Remember when we all believed that computers were going to make our lives easier? Hahahahahaha!!

Anyhoooooo, that card will be in as soon as I can compile it...if I miss a call or two in the meantime I'm not worried...that's only fair. So, in other words, go ahead and start without me if anyone is chomping at the bit (I don't blame them). If I happen to pick something that's allready been called I'll just black that one out ;)

Be back soon...and if not then I'm just lost in computer h*!!

LOL Heather --stuff happens!! I was caller a couple years ago and our power was out 13 days and a tree from the ice storm took out my internet satellite--I texted bingo calls to Syrumani, when I could get signal.

lol i could see that happening here...except I only get enough service for text messages sometimes & that's when I stand on the arm of the couch on tiptoes with one foot, the other leg up like a flamingo, one hand with my pointing finger on my nose and the other hand holding my cell phone up in the air at a 30* angle. I lost my mind and rearranged the livingroom furniture the other day...I quickly moved it all back once I realized I had to run back and forth across the room to send and receive text messages. There is NO service at DBF's...not even if you stand on your head...well, I've found ONE spot that has service...in the middle of an old calbe swinging foot bridge over the river in the middle of the woods (think Survivor). Gotta love the boonies!!! ha ha ha

LOL I have to leave my cell phone in the window--it has its own little lawn chair--gotta love the bluetooth--to text -after I type it-- I have to wait until signal comes back and then send. gonna invest in an antenna and booster next time I have a spare $300 laying around (not soon in other words).

DBF got a mobile hotspot for at his house. It hooks up through the internet. You can actually set it for how far you want it to reach (200 ft radius, etc) It cost $200 at Verizon (since that is our carrier). Amazing. NO service before that for about 15 miles. Now there is *perfect* service. I'll be getting one eventually...and then losing my landline. He had the radius set for much wider when it was first set up but then cut it waaaay back since folks were pulling up and parking in the driveway to use their cell phones!!! It took 2 days for folks to figure out there was cell service at the big old tan house with the pond out front. Problem was they wouldn't wave hello...or even get out of the way when we were coming and going from the house...so they lost their privledges.

DBF lives where there is an elk herd that attracts a LOT of tourists...who will park ON your lawn, in the middle of the road, jump over fences posted "no trespassing" and generally make a nuisance of themselves. The cell phone thing seemed like it would be nice for them in the beginning (since they are all always walking around waving their phones in the air like it's gonna help)...but it just turned out to be a huge hassle. So, now we have great cell service in the house...but outside you're back to using pigeons!!

We don't have a land line-- but wonder if it would work with satellite internet? Not nearly as fast as DSL.
