This was a enlightening article. I had thought that the monikers of "Thanksgiving Cactus" and "Christmas Cactus" were common names that refer to the same Schlumbergera plants that just happened to bloom at different times depending on local conditions.
Based on the info about leaf morphology, the current PlantFile for Schlumbergera x buckleyi (Christmas Cactus) (http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1510/), appears to contain mostly photos of Schlumbergera truncata plants (Thanksgiving Cactus).
