It's almost the New Year and my Christmas sewing is done!!!! I got a new Janome 11000 for being such a good girl this year and I'm going to take the time to learn how to use it!!!! From what I can tell from the manual and a demo at the dealers, this should do all but make my beds for me!! it will be a journey for sure.

These are actually 4 adults that we have. The picture was taken about three years ago. The black boy at the bottom is the dad to the puppies I have now. I was coming home and the other side of the fence is the driveway. They have a habit of sticking their noses under the fencing to see outside. My SO caught them doing this and took the picture through the screened window of the garage door. The area that they're in is part of the dog run that takes up the entire side of that portion of the house.

These are blankets that I made for a friend as Christmas gifts for her twin niece and nephew. After I cut the animal fabric, I found that half had one set of animals and the other half another set, including pink birds. So the quilts are similar, but not identical on the front. The girl's is backed in pink and the boy's in tan with blue, both from Debbie Mumm's chilren's collection.

Will try to upload pics of the backs flipped up (I DID take pics this time) when I get home from work tonite. No, I didn't pre-wash the flannel. Never pre-wash and that's what's keeping me from doing swaps. Will have to see if there is an issue after washing with shrinkage, but the flannel doesn't feel like a typical flannel, more like a cross of flannel and regular cotton. I din't realize it was flannel till after I had been putting it together and noticed the texture. I do have flannels, and it definitely feels different, but is listed on the name salvage to be flannel. Hope that helps avoid significant issues. I SID around each 6" finished square and used Warm and Natural batting, so hoping that they stay a bit more uniform. The flannel squares are 3" finished

Thanks all. I also did a diagonal placement of the 4 patch on the boy's and alternted direction on the girl's. I kinda like to do the baby quilts. It was really neat (and unplanned) that the larger squares were cut with the two groupings of animals outcome. Probably couldn't duplicate that if I tried.

We just got back from a trip to Jo Anns. Bought 20 yards of Warm n White batting. It was on sale for 5.99 a yard. We're all set to start sewing again in 2011. First couple of times, we'll be cutting baby kits, so if you have any easy patterns that are roughly 40-42 x 42-44, please let me know.

I hear you QG. OOO do I hear you. I love advent wreaths. When I was little, and church wasnt my favorite place to go, I loved this season, they would change the colors in the church, the ministers 'sash', the purple candles, music that didnt put you to sleep, and for the most part, was fun to sing. I still to this day look in the bulletin FIRST thing when I sit down, wanna see if the service is ending on a slowwwwwwww note 'Silet Night' 'Away in a Manger" or if its going to be upbeat and we go out with 'Joy to the World' or Hark the Herald Angles Sing lol..I have to prepare if its going to be a slow ending...not my fave.
At least you can still light the baby jesus candle 'on time'

Slow or upbeat...everyone have a great Christmas!! If you celebrate another holiday,I hope its still a good weekend for you...one way or the other...its back to sewing in about 96 hours...online sales and new fabric, hee I come. Gosh I need to clean and organize first...

I think I FINALLY got all the fall/Thanksgiving decorations rounded up and back in bins. And there's no place in the garage to put them because it's already full of sewing machines and bins of other seasonal decorations. Hubs has this strange idea about throwing out a bunch of stuff so we can park a car in there. I think he's crazy.

I might manage to get the last Advent candle lit on time, GG. ;)

As for hitting the fabric sales - not me - I'm gonna be good. My poor debit card is already smoking and melting! LOL! Besides, like you, I would have to clean and organize first - no place to put any new stuff.

And it's embarrassing to have this much fabric. I plan to actually use some of it, this next year. No more buying quilt tops on eBay until at least half of this fabric is used up! Using your stash... what a novel concept, hm?

I finally finished the sewing/knitting bag for Judy's birthday. Didn't think I was ever going to get it done. Everything that could go wrong did. But I am a persevering sort (think really, really STUBBORN). I delivered it yesterday and she was pleased with the final result. Here's the completed bag, it's made from pet screen purchased from Home Depot. The fabric is printed with antique knitting needles. It has two large pockets and a key holder. Handles are long enough to carry over the shoulder.

And the dining room table is cleaned off & polished. We will eat there tomorrow. The left over decorations have been moved to the basement. Only thing still out is the wrapping paper.
The turkey is defrosted & sitting in the fridge. The ingredients for pumpkin pie & stuffing are gathered & on the counter.

I think I can now go grab my cup of tea and start on the binding.

I'm a little ashamed to say I didn't even get a tree up this year. Between my family cancelling on me for Thanksgiving because of bad roads, me working On-call for Christmas day and tomorrow, I was just in such a funk I couldn't do it. My Sweet husband kept asking me what I wanted him to cook for Christmas and I couldn't even come up with reasonable suggestion.

NEXT year I am NOT working Christmas day. One of the newbies can or the director. I did my turn and my tree is going up Thanksgiving weekend. My Sweetie bought me the walking foot for my Sewing machine and some attachments "they suggested" that he doesn't have the faintest idea what they are.

psychw2... don't feel like you're the only one who didn't do a tree. For the last four or five years, we either weren't going to be home much for the holiday season, especially Christmas, or my SO was busy with a Christmas show back-to-back with another show (they start rehearsals on the next show the week or so before the current show is to close), so we haven't bothered to decorate the tables let alone do a tree... poor excuse since we have 12 trees, ranging from 2 to 7 feet tall. When all are up, the house is REALLY festive. Most of the rooms frequently use rooms, including the guest bathroom, usually has at least one tree.

We did the christmas club at the bank last year and were going to have a nice little chunk of money for gifts butttttt... of course my DH retired and his pension was delayed due to paperwork blah blah blah. So needless to say we used our club money for the mortgage and no money for gifts. However, it was a very nice day we went to my parents house in NH had a lovely meal and we have decided to have a gift giving date in January. The nice thing is I don't have to worry about the crazed last minute shoppers when I go. I think I am getting the accuquilt go that is if DH can find one we will see. All in all was a nice day though.

Just finished quilting a QoV 55" X 65" quilt. It was foundation pieced so a bit thicker than a normal top. I could feel that it was taking my needle more to get through the double layers. And I had to avoid the joins where it was really too thick to quilt. So it was an all over meander of swirls & stars.
I have my turkey carcass cooking for veg soup. Nice & sunny out & feels like the wind has died down.
Need to take a break & go do some returns. Then back to work on the 2nd quilt.

No tree here either. That is not to say we didn't buy a small tree but things just happened and it was never brought in nor decorated. Had planned to set it up out back this weekend and decorate it for the birds. It won't be a total waste--in fact, I like this idea better--no messy needles to be cleaned up later.

Cold and windy here today. My daughter and I had gone south to visit with my Mom for Christmas so we missed the snow that fell here on the 26th--bummer. Returned home yesterday with plans to sew for the next few days but alas that isn't to be. Got a call from my sister early this morning with news I dreaded. We thought Mom had a bad chest cold and was afraid it was going into pneumonia but it isn't. After a chest xray they called my sister this morning that Mom has a 12cm mass and fluid building in her lungs. We were told we could have her go for a CT scan and lung biopsy but the doctors didn't think it was a wise move as frail as she is now. Hospice has been called now and my sewing has been put on hold as I am making arrangements to go back so my sister and I will be together for support.

Ditto Marion. It's great, however, to have family around for support and to share the responsibility. Keep YOURSELF healthy (meals, slep, etc.) as we can't do anyone else any good if we don't take care of oursselves first. My support goes to you and yours.

Stu, I learned the hard way about taking care with Ross--I will do my best and that is why I am trying to get back to be with my sister. She has always lived next door or with Mom and this is really rough.

Went to JoAnn's yesterday with my 20% off coupon. They did NOT have any Christmas fabric. Not a single bolt. So I stocked up on the 50% off thread. Love it when I "save" more than I spend!!!! I have enough off-white, ecru, lt beige (all quilting) & lt grey (for piecing) to last well into next year.

Sondra you have such a good eye with those batiks. For some reason, when I pick colors in batik they end up all looking the same unless it is a definite contrast. Your talent for blending your colors is to be admired...and I do!!!!

I've learned with batiks to pick all different kinds of textures and designs. When I first started collecting them I stayed with the overall swirly hand dyed and they actually fell kind of flat next to each other. Now, I sometimes notice the color after the design.

I'll try that method and see if I do better. The only good thing I've done with batiks I did with a BaliPop "Strawberry Fields" with a gray swirl contrast. That worked out great.

    Hapy New Year all

I think that I'm done fabric shopping for the 50% sale, including a cute Dish Ran Away with the Spoon baby fabric for future baby Qs. Took the puppies and their mom to the vet yesterday for their last puppy shots and stopped by one of my most favorite LQS that has a huge selection of half off bolts and got three more (I love when Moda and others that I like are half off). Now debating a couple of prints on the Thousand of Bolts sale...

    http://www.thousandsofbolts.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=categor...

Will I have the will power NOT to... probably no...

Oh, and BTW, finished a Lap Q top (more like large twin) last night that I made for friends. Think it came out great. Will post pics. Now onto a baby Q for a client of my SO and getting started on the B&W auction Q for my dog club for the Nationals in March.
