After I take down all the trimmings, I take loppers to my tree. I cut off all the branches. It's now easier to carry out of the house and I can use the cut branches as an additional layer of mulch. In the Spring I take the now bare branches to the fire pit to use later in our weekend bon fires. My husband cuts off the bottom section of the trunk which is saved and decorated to be used in our Christmas Eve fire the following year. The rest of the trunk is cut to length and burned in the fire pit. I think this is a much better way to recycle and honor the trees that have given us so much pleasure during the season. Much better than going to the dump. And yes, our tree stays up through Epiphany.
