I live on Southern most NC Coast. Wonder if they'd make it. Maybe the deciduous one, bergenia ciliata. Heat zone maps have changes. We have gone from a 7B to an 8A and are inching toward a 9. However, this winter is so cold, that may all change. Still, our summers are very hot and humid. I really love the evergreen bergenias though.

You may try Bergenia cordifolia 'Red Star' Seed available at Park seed company. This is my favorite with its leathery heart shaped leaves. Height is 8". Grows in shade.
