I have done a seed inventory for annuals I want to plant at our little museum next spring. I noticed that I have a lot of pink, red, orange, and yellow but few blue or purple flowering plants. Does anyone have suggestions? I did think of Petunias, but that's about it.
blue or purple annuals
Here are some blue and/or purple annuals I can think of. Most all of them come in many colors, so you have to find a variety in the blue/purple color range.
Annual Lupines as in "Sunrise" or "Arroyo"
Lisianthus (difficult to grow from seed)
Can also think of a couple beautiful "true blue" warm climate perennials, here in Florida, that are grown as annuals North of here. They generally have to be purchased as plants North of here.....if you can find them.
Blue Daze (Evolvulus)
Have some blue pansies down here this winter. They are "Delta Pure Light Blue", "Delta Deep Blue With Blotch" and the white one is "Delta Pure White"
good grief. I can't believe I didn't think of any of these, especially ageraturm and larkspur. Thank you so much, folks. I am headed for the PlantsFiles.
A few more...these are some of my "must have" blues and purples every year
Kew Blue Salpiglossis
Xtreme Sapphire Impatiens
Blue Pearl Impatiens
Perfumed Purple Nicotiana
Sweet Peas...several blue and/or purple options. Cupani is good
chocolatemousse, I have never heard of some of those so it will be fun looking them up.
joannabanana, what can I say. Breathtaking!
Tried Salpiglossis (Painted Tongue) for the first time this winter. Really nice flowering plant. "Kew Blue" is very very nice. Also like "Chocolate Royale"
very pretty. But I am looking for things that can also be used in square foot gardening as that is what our children's garden will be this year.
