Marie, this is a wonderful horticulture lesson for those of us who don't know our petals from our sepals and tepals. I must admit, though, that my attention was continually being drawn away from the informative text by the glorious photographs. Thanks for the lesson and a breath of summer!
This was so helpful as well as interesting, and made me wish I remembered from high school biology.
You helped to clarify and answer lot of open questions from other DG postings. I was never sure about petaloids, but I love peonies, as you can tell.
The article forced me to go back and look at garden photos from the last 2 years and recognize fused petals and the complete, perfect flower of the true poppy.
