Karen, I've just been looking at various online sites. Conflicting predictions about how/if it will affect Australia. One minute you hear, from reliable sources that the northern part of Australia will be affected, the next you hear from an equally reliable source that no, it wont affect us. Queensland, which has virtually been flooded for several weeks, is experiencing flooding rains once again and if the Tsunami was to reach Australia, Queensland would be one of the places worst affected. The entire Pacific rim is on high alert, from Russia to Oregon, to Hawaii to Chile. Yet another catastrophic event.
Last update had the tsunami moving across Hawai'i at this time and heading for the US mainland (California, Oregon, Washington ) They are expecting it to hit the US Pacific coast with a 1 to3 ft rise in the next hour.
First reports from Japan say 200 to 300 missing. with 66 confirmed deaths. And that this is one of the top 5 strongest earthquakes in the last 100 years.
I finally made it here...sorry I'm so late! Thanks everyone for the wishes, you are so sweet! I have been very busy at the office and gardening at home, so I didn't have so much time for posting. I only answered to the comments on my articles, that's where Karen said we 'talked'!
I must say I am also very concerned about the disaster in Japan and thought of you all, especially after the tsunami. Our friend Jon who lives in Japan has had damages on his house and they are so worried about what's been happening there. I've started a prayers thread for him on the other site. If you want to send him your prayers here is the link :
My birthday is every year after a celebration we have on March 9 when we're cooking some traditional cookies...took me all afternoon to bake! Then , another day of cooking for my BD. I was exausted, but it was nice. My colleagues from work celebrated me and we had a nice brunch at the office with the goodies I cooked for them.
Karen, I loved the pictures you posted on FB, so beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Jean, congrats for the new tripod! Your pics are great!
Lily, love the picture with the burning sky!
Burn, what a great sunrise!
Margaret, thanks for the gorgeous flower! What is it?
Although I have been busy, I never forgot to take pics of a sunrise!LOL
Nice pics, Adina. Nice to 'see' you back! Thanks for the compliments on my latest pics. Happy belated Birthday to you, btw!
I've been saying prayers for Japan, and that would include your friend there, too, Adina. I'm very concerned about all that's going on there, especially with the nuclear power plant. Doesn't look good.
Adina, it's mind boggling, to see all the devastation in Japan. So sorry your friend is in the middle of it. They sure have had their share of troubles. Hope things take a turn for the better for Jon and all of Japan.
Thanks everyone for the wishes and the prayers for Jon and all the Japenese people. They have an earthquake almost everyday,,,so scary!
It's good to be back! No pictures today, it's cloudy and raining...grrr!
Stay well everyone!
Also, please keep the folks in Christchurch in your thoughts...they too are have daily aftershocks, some of them over 5 on the Richter scale. Aside from the constant rocking, it is taking a a mental toll on adults and children alike, not to mention the animals that are terrified.
With good reason Karen, especially since those plant administrators seem to have ignored a number of safety inspections in the past. We can all only hope and pray that those in charge are able to get things back under control. The Japanese population does not need another disaster on their plate, nor does the rest of the world.
There are a number of DGers from New Zealand. These folks have been living with this since the first quake back in September. One mentioned that she had to get tranquilizers for her dog as he was frantic at every tremor.
Between Haiti, NZ and Japan there is a lot of fear and misery out there in the world right now, not to mention the Middle East. We can but hope and pray for strength and a safe outcome.
Margaret, it sounds as if Summer heat is as bad there as it's here for in the Southern States US. Here is hoping you will get some relief with Autumn breeze soon. tmh! Now that's mysterious and beauty all wrapped up in one! I like that very much.
Thanks Kim. It looked almost mundane to the naked eye.. The camera catches such nuances of light, shadow and color. Before long the trees will be all leafed out and I will be searching for a clear shot of the sun...rising or setting, Grin, Moon
Love those colours, Moon. I wonder how it would affect how we feel if we had these glorious colours all day long - just for a day or two.
Kim, it they're predicting the heat to continue for several weeks. Yuck.
Karen, it's mostly a dry heat, but the humidity seems to be increasing. Whether this is actually related to the weather or just my general intolerance to heat as I get older is undecided. Right now, three weeks into autumn, the temperature is 23C (74F) at 8.30pm and the humidity is at 81%. How can a gal possibly have a good hair day in conditions like that?
Yuck, that humidity level is not good. I love 70's when it's dry. Even 80's and 90's in not bad when it's dry. But when it gets in the 100's, dry or humid, it's too hot. If it's humid if feels like your in a fishbowl. If it's dry it feels like an oven.
You've captured the moon really nicely, Moon. And I love the colors of your sunset
Kim, lovely scenery shot of your sunset, and the harbor shot so nice.
Margaret, hard to have a good hair day in such temp. Hope things cool down for you. That was a horribly hot Summer you had. I'm sure it put a damper, on what you were able to do and enjoy. I have a hard time with heat too. Our Summer are very humid here. I find it hard to breath when it reach the 27C +.
Hi guys! I'm amazed to hear about the eartquakes still going on in Christchurch...poor people and dogs! Will keep them in my prayers too.
Moon, that's a great picture of the moon! You should post it on the Moon thread too, they have some great pics there of the big moon on March 19. I'm watching that thread too as I'm in love not only with the sun, but with the moon too!LOL Love the sunset too.
Unfortunately I have no picture to show you , but yours are great.
Kim, that is a gorgeous sunset!
Moon, cross posted !LOL I took a picture of the moon tonight , right after it rose. I'll download and see how it looks like.
Margaret, I forgot to say thanks for the name of the flower , cool!
I've found this sunrise from last week.
Karen, I didn't get to see the sunrise at all last week because of the same thought you had!LOL Lucky me, I was working second shift, but not this week! Waiting for your new pics.
Moon, sorry you didn't get to see the sunrise...any luck today?
Nice of you to get up and get us a Sunrise Adina. ;) it`s a beauty.
Karen about you not wanting to get up,but thinking about it, that sound like me. LOL Had to laugh at Margaret`s comment though, about nice thought.
Moon, that`s a bummer, getting ready for a sunrise, and no sun.:( But glad it`s a glorious day for you.
No nice sunset lately, so adding one from a while back.
Great shots of the moon and sunset guys! I'm on vacation(staycation , as someone told me they're calling it when you're staying home) so I'm up very early !LOL Obviously, I can catch the sunrise when it's not cloudy..like yesterday.
Thank you, guys! I'm really enjoying staying at home, especially not having to wake up so early!LOL Lots of work in the garden and Easter cleaning, but most of all I'll enjoy my DD and grandson Nicholas coming home for Easter next Friday.
Welcome Ky! Great photo...it looks mysterious to me too!
Wonderful pictures, Karen!
Thanks, Adina and Burn. Adina, have a nice visit with your family. Don't know what we're doing for Easter yet. Will probably have my brother and his daughter over. Maybe his wife, too, if she not in b*#% mode.
It would be nice to think so, Kim, but the rain is expected today only and possibly a few showers tomorrow and then the temperature will be up in the 30's (Celsius) by the end of the week and we're already more than a month and a half into autumn.
Hi Lily, I can't work in my garden yet. I still have snow in some of them, and frozen ground in the others. :( Lovely rose bush, you have. I have one like it, but don't have the name of it. It's a rescue from an old house, that was being torn down.
Hope spring will get there soon for you Burn. Roses are a must in any garden. I believe. This one is "Baby Blanket". New Dawn is a climber, Baby Blanket is a shrub rose, when it bloom it's like a delicate wowen roses blanket fits for a precious baby.
Wonderful pics everyone! I have a few from last week, just didn't have time to post. Everyone is sleeping now so I can have my laptop only for me!LOL
Here's a sunset seen between the houses accross the street.
Yes, it's really wild here this time of year. One day it's like summer due to heat, next it's like jack frost biting at your nose. Then come the hot/cold air collision; TORNADOS and hails storm! It could be frightening at time. Just some gentle rain that's all we're asking for Margaret. lol.
Thank you all ! Sorry I'm so late, but I can hardly get on my laptop these days!LOL We're making turns to watch Nicholas!LOL
Moon, what a beautiful sunset! I told my DD about the 'oh, sweet baby' award and she really thought it was an award!LOL
No picture of the sun, but another one of Nicholas in the garden.
Aww Nicholas has what my Grandma used to call Sugar Cheeks...a sweet little face you can't resist kissing...GRIN i am sure despite all the running around watching him you will treasure the time with him. He is such a pretty baby boy.
It's been a while since I've posted something. We had a few nice sunsets here but to lazy to go out and take photos.
Moon you got a nice soft sunset, looks pretty.
Margaret, aww Ocean and sunset, what better setting, very beautiful.
Kim it must be so nice, to sit on that deck, and watch the sun go down.
Well I was again lazy last night and didn't get in the car to go take this one. This is from my family room door. lol
