Rusty,, thanks for the new thread! And for the pretty crocus, so lovely!
Nicholas has been running a fever these days again and Andreea took him to the doctor today. It seems nothing serious is going on, so he will be just fine with the suppositories. He is eating well and has adjusted to powder milk too.
I was hoping Spring is on the way, but nope...still freezing tonight and snow showers tomorrow...arrgghhhh!
My ivy geraniums are growing so well on my bedroom window!
My crocuses are just species ones but I do need to check and see if they even made it. Even just a few. LOL. Some were planted almost in the driveway. lol. Those may not make it but I hope the others have.
We reached 58 today and it was breezy. At least at work it was which is normal. No breeze is not normal and you better be watching the sky during that time. No telling what might be going on. lol
Tomorrow we get rain. Then snow on Saturday but no accumulation supposedly.
This is what we all do when it's nice out. Sunbathe!! LOL
We have a stray cat here & I was wondering where it came from. It is an exact copy of yours! When you have half a dozen females around, this time of year strays come a calling.
It hit 38º today. Still 36º right now. WOW!
Bernie's having a heat wave!!!!! LOL
How's that shop coming along? Oh, by the way, what was the name of the counter top material you were telling us about? I am trying to make a decision on the bathroom counter top material.
Yeah, the Crocuses here are quite a ways behind your's Rusty. I remember last year, they was blooming thru the snow!
It prolly isn't a good life for a cat outside, it gets cold in the Winter! That is nice of you billyp to have houses for them.
I have a photo of a purple Crocus last year blooming thru the snow! Where is it at this year?!
They were installing the countertops Monday. I will get pictures soon.
I am working on it when we get a chance. I will take pictures there today.
I can reserve rooms for all of you at the Super 8 in Blue Earth. It's only 8 miles from the shop. LOL!
Melted a bit yesterday. Snow was forecast yesterday, but for once weather liars were wrong. LOL!
We've been working a lot in the shop. Trying to get the fireplace thing done my middle of next week. Also a china hutch at the same time.
Then the Cherry kitchen will be started.
Have a bunch of bathroom cabinets to do & possibly another kitchen. Should know in a day or so.
Howdy, Bernie. Good to know you are still alive and working yourself to death. LOL
Thanks for the name of the counter material. I will look into it now. I can't wait for pictures of your shop, etc. One thing about you my friend, you are not LAZY!!!!
Went to the shop. Installed two new doors. Then my son left for home. Oh-oh, camera went with him, so no pictures today.
I put up a bunch of shelves & repaired an old showcase. Then unpacked more boxes. DD, SIL, & wife showed up from their morning chores. They moved a bunch of things we unpacked earlier. I am recording all the Serial # as we go. I need new tags on most things. A lot got dingy in the years they sat around or were packed away. I am going to work on the tags this evening.
Tomorrow is an auction I am going to attend. I hope to get some good buys on some good stuff.
A gal from the local paper came by this afternoon to do a story on the antique shop.
I hope I didn't break her camera!
Starteed out with temps near 50 but we are down to high 30s now. Had some storms this afternoon but now just scattered rain. Tornado warnings east of Columbia earlier today also. Didn't hear if one touched down or not.
Bernie I'm rereading the John Sandford books and the names you mention pop up all the time.
In fact Blue Earth/Mankato is in the one I'm reading now.
Of course they are based mostly in 'The Cites' but a lot of the smaller towns is where the action is!
Bernie, I am getting granite for the kitchen since we are in the process already of remodeling the kitchen. The only thing I could find that I liked was the granite I picked. Our counter top isn't large so it won't cost a whole lot as for people with large kitchens. My bath room is what really has me worried. It is the old fashioned pale rose pink and pale blue tiles from the 50's. The tiles go on the counter and way up the walls. I am NOT up to changing the whole bath room so will just do the counter and the sink. I can't find anything that matches for the counter. Even the stone you recommend doesn't have a blue or pink blend that I can use. Any other suggestions will be appreciated. If i can't find a blue sink to match the commode and tub, I am going to be up a creek without a paddle. I sort of expect to be doing a lot of rowing.
Good morning !
Sunny here today and getting warm...but not for long! 46F today. My crocuses are still under the snow, but hopefully it will melt today.
We're expecting snow and more freeze starting tomorrow..arrgghhh! I'll be vacuuming today and rest, maybe watch a movie. Still not warm enough to get out in the garden. But the doggies have started to stay out of their dog houses, in the sun.
This is what I planted last fall, included the crocuses.
33° with a high of 36°
Blustery, colder, cloudy. Temps nearly steady in the mid 30s. Winds N at 15 to 25 mph.
Bernie, I wish DH was a travellin man. I'll have to be happy with photos, but I know the shop is going to be beautiful!
I can not believe all the work you have lined up! You are so efficient tho. It's always done before we know it and you will have a whole new set of jobs to do :o)
Elena, it sure is nice having expert advice on your own counter tops isn't it? Once they're in, they are there to stay, so we have to chose so carefully!
Bernie, smiling over no camera. That's ok. You will get more done and have more pictures to take all at once. I would sure love to ''clean'' up some of the dingy pieces. They will look so proud in their place on the shelves!
How cool!! I hope you lcan link us to the story! I'll bet you were very handsome!
Pepper, I don't even want to think about tornados yet. I hope your area is safe all Spring!!
Ohhh, liquid sunshine! So beautiful!!
Ric, I have four in the early Prey series by John Sanford. I haven't read them for a long time!
Elena, I think your bathroom colors sound so beautiful. You didn't say you were tired of them, but try adding a picture that will change the colors. It's amazing what a picture can do to accent colors in a different light and make it look like a new room.
Bernie may have a challange on his hands to find a color match for you :o)
Adina, I sure hope every bulb grows. All are beautiful! Clean a little, rest a little. That sounds like a good plan!
I made a cheap tent with the cots and told the boys ghost stories. Not a story teller, I have to fall back on Jem, Scout and Dill and the dare to touch the Radley's front porch door. This time I used stuffed animals to heighten the ''scariness,'' LOL! The movie was just on the other day but all we caught was the walk thru the woods with Scout in the ham. I should have taped at least that much for them :o)
Most people rip out old tile like mine but to me it adds old timey charm to the house because it is what was here when the house was built. It is all in beautiful shape except the floor. They abused it badly before we ever moved here. Hubby ruined the sink by putting harsh drainer cleaner in it and leaving it too long in the standing water. It is all rusty around the drain because of that. I should have watched him better but admit that I didn't. His country boy ways show up on things like that from time to time and I just have to stay on my toes to make sure he doesn't destroy things. Other than that, he is a jewel. LOL You have probably heard the song, "I'm just an old chunk of coal, but I'm gonna be a diamond some day." I tell him he is gonna have to work hard to make it to the diamond stage if he isn't careful about things like that. LOL!
I do have a nice bathroom rug that will go on the floor so nobody will notice it. If my contractor can just get the top off the counter without hurting the wall, we will be set to go once I can find my counter top material.
Yep, Bernie is a jewel. I will have to talk to his spouse to find out if he has made it to the diamond stage yet or not. Tee hee!
We got the doors on Bertha's bedroom & closet the other day. Only 1½ years after the room was done!
Went to the auction today. We got a few pieces of glassware, a nice plant stand, a bedside table, & odds & ends. A 1941 Tournament of Roses program. It is in real good shape. Also a set of builders guides printed in the 1920's. Should be interesting reading.
Pictures tomorrow, I promise!
34° with a high of 48°
Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of light rain early in the afternoon. A chance of light rain late in the afternoon. High in the upper 40s. East wind 10 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 25 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 50 percent.
Elena, my bathroom at home still has the tile Mom put on the walls in 1958 :o) I still like it. The bathroom window is also so old. It has swirls in the bottom pane and is frosted white so no one can see in. It's on the second floor, LOL!
Smiling, I think Bernie has reached the diamond stage!
Bernie, laughing again. I would have a hard time at the auction, NOT buying for myself!
Ric, love the lazy day and can feel the gentle heat. So cozy!!
I had to wear a scarf and gloves, but I walked around town yesterday morning. It felt sooo good to get out! I was burning wastebaskets and happened to poke the poker in the ground. Oh my gosh! It went in 8''! Now when did the ground thaw? LOL!
The robins and cardinals were singing their Spring songs before sun-up. What a beautiful sound! I also heard a red wing blackbird oka leee me :o)
Yes, Bernie, I figured as much. I am getting accustomed to your awesome abilities. I don't think I have ever met anyone like you who seems a lot like the Energizer Bunny. Is it Wheaties breakfast of champions or spinach like Popeye or those fresh country eggs from your farm that keep you going non stop?
Bernie that's a Handsome Unit!
Love the look and execution!
Well the ride into work was interesting...as in the pseudo-Chinese curse...
"May you live in interesting times" way.
Scraped about 1 1/2" of Styrofoam snow off the truck.
Hit the road and spun 180° on the first turn.
The roads got a bit better and I made it to work OK... UNTIL I got about 1/4 mile away.
There was a 3 car wreck on the two lane bridge.
It was solid ice. I could see the Shop...lol!
Had to turn around, on the bridge, and head back for an alternate route.
Called the shop and told them the problem.
Passed Ben, a co-worker, and told him to follow me.
We detoured about 3 miles and made it in but late.
Then immediately set out to do some deliveries.
The roads were dicey but not too bad by 8AM.
By 9AM just wet.
By Noon it was in the mid 40's and Sunny.
23° with a high 44°
Some sun this morning with increasing clouds this afternoon. Winds N at 10 to 15 mph.
Bernie, I'll take the wind if there is no snow in it!
Pepper, that's going to be the story here if it ever warms up!!
Ric, nice shot!!
The boys go home today. We went to West Branch yesterday, (Herbert Hoover's birthplace) and had a delicious ice cream cone. Well, I had a hot fudge sundae with real fudge! They fell asleep on the way home :o)
Thanks for the wishes Elena, Bernie and Ric! I had a wonderful birthday and received wonderful gifts, especially new huge pots for my lemon and mandarin trees, hibiscus and date palm from DH. And a new garden sccissors from my DS!
It's getting really warm here, 56F!!!! I was out in the garden this week-end cleaning up the mess after such a long winter.
I have a few damages on the house too...the cement from one terrace is falling apart and on one corner of the house...arrggghhh!
I took some pics to show you...this is the terrace.
Well, it's supposed to snow overnight here now. Expecting 1-3 inches and under a Winter Advisory Funny part is I'm sitting here watching Twister. LOL. Watching spring weather movies and it's gonna snow. lol
I don't know what the weather did today. I got real lazy & stayed in all day. I did do a bunch of computer work. Made up 180 price tags for the Antiques. I am putting new tags on everything.
We unpack the items, write down the serial numbers, then I go through the inventory list & transfer the descriptions to address labels. The labels are either put on the item or on a string tag to affix to things like cups & sugar bowls.
There are 100's of items to go.
I designed some shelves for middle of the store area, so now need to get some plywood to build them.
I am using SS money for this project. I wonder if I call the Pres, he will send it more often. LOL!
31° with a high of 50°
Partly cloudy. Winds E at 5 to 10 mph.
Elena, DST never used to bother me till a few years ago. Most likely since I have all the time to lay in bed if I want, LOL! But I'd rather get up!
Adina, you had WONDERFUL birthday gifts!!
What a huge shame about the house damage! I suppose the contractor's obligation to fix things has expired. It looks like they used cheap materials. I hope it's easy for you to fix. Are you still looking to move to Switzerland some day?
Pepper, ROTFL over Twister!!
I don't want to see ANY of that snow heading my way!! Actually, we are to get rain tomorrow.
Rusty, look at all that hail! Well, obviously you did, LOL! Ju must have had a nice time playing!
Elena, ROTFL, but yes, the least amount!
Bernie, ROTFL over calling the Pres. Try it! It sure was a good day to stay in and do necessary busy work.
Yesterday we had a sharply cold breeze and dreary skies. After we took the Grandkids home, I sorted thru books. I had a sackful that were given to Mom and I brought all of them home, in... 2004.
I had listed what I kept for myself, but hadn't read, before they went on my shelves.
So, I read the backs, then the first few pages. If it didn't grab me, it went in a sack.
Then I went thru my own, ridding the shelves of a lot of True Crime. It's all over the news. Who wants to read any more of it. They were pretty old books.
I have a huge pile to go to Goodwill along with a few other gleanings. It feels good to make room! It also makes me want to read all the good books I do have!

I got leak on my van's sun roof and it need rubber seal around the sun roof and got wet inside on the floor and other seat! errr!
Please forgive me for my weather report.. it's sunny & going into the 80's this week. My plants are sprouting beautifully. It's been windy today & of all the days today has been the coldest sitting around 50.
Hope all are well.. I can't keep up with everything going on!!!! aahhhh lol
High 50s and sunny today. Not bad. Tomorrow mid 60s and Thursday high 70s. Rain coming in before the weekend. Tomorrow I will be checking out some of the plants and see what's coming up. I should take pics if I remember though I still can't download new ones yet. lol
Snow is going! Slowly.
50 something yesterday. To busy to check exactly.
Low of 44º overnight.
Lots to do today. Yard is muddy so makes things hard. I brought home egg mash last night. We'll have to haul it to the chicken house in the tractor loader.
Also bought 5 sheets of plywood to make shelving for the antique store. I have to get that to the wood shop to cut it up.
I got another kitchen to build yesterday. So now we are set until May 1 with cabinets.
I am going to order onion plants & Gladiolus bulbs today. One vendor that sold lots of Gladiolus has decided not to do the Farmers Market any longer. We will cover the slack.
Hopefully in 2½ weeks or so we can start getting things in the ground.
Been raining most of the day here and will rain until late tonight. Small chances of flooding since the ground was already soaked when it started raining. Decent chance of rain tomorrow and most of next week. Hope they manage to get my greenhouse up next week!!
50° with a high of 64°
Rain with a few thunderstorms likely. A few storms may be severe. Winds SSE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 80%.
Pepper, it's spitting rain here today and a bit warm. We could see severe weather already if it does all come together. I'm glad I do feel better now, in case we have to run, LOL!
I managed to walk the yard yesterday and boy do we need the rain. My iris are all shriveled up and out of the ground a bit. I wish I had gotten the borer systemic on. The one year I might have gotten there first.
It will be up to 80* later on and right now is 59*...
Got good T-storm yesterday and scared my dog Rusty but Juju isn't scared at all... Also power went off for about 10 second then back on!
Ground still wet muddy in my garden...Can't wait until April to buy some tomatoes plant and gonna to sow some seeds beets, squash, and some other seeds...
Sunny, 78, and very windy today. Still can't do garden work here at home. Still too wet and more rain on the way. I need to get my potatoes and onions planted but still can't. Hopefully next week.
Bp, it's the greenhouse at work. I think it goes up tomorrow but not sure. Depends on if they have time and the weather. Tues we are under a risk for severe storms so there's no telling when it will managed to get up.
Only Thing I could find this morning that was colorful, is our "herd". Notice the dead looking Iris. They were buried until last Friday. There's tulips in there, too.
Only highs in the lower 30's until next week. Snow will be here for a while. Flooding going on around the state. I don't know how with the slow snow melt.
45° with a high of 60°
Scattered thunderstorms this morning, then strong thunderstorms likely during the afternoon hours. Storms may produce large hail and strong winds. High around 60F. Winds ESE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 70%.
Ric, can't wait to see the maple! I'll bet you couldn't wait to see Taynor's and vice versa! Love that girl!
Rusty, Love the muscari and viola! The colors look so good!
Bernie, the all orange one is the color of our neighbor's cat. He comes in the house every morning to visit and will be back after sun-up to sleep till dinnertime, LOL!
Love the black and white ''twins!"
Pepper, so many cat variations and we all have a similar cat, LOL!
I finally had a real dream last night instead of drug induced fragments whizzing thru my head. I remember I was outside. That was a nice change!
50° all day
Mostly cloudy skies. Winds WNW at 10 to 20 mph
Last night a very small line of storms blew thru us and was gone. I waited all day for these ''big rains.'' I wonder if I'm finally going to have a dry Spring this year? We've had hardy any rain this year.
Good thing DH put the pitcher pump together. We're ready.
Absolutely goofy weather around here!
High today was 31º, low overnight was 15º.
Today is March 24. Last on March 30 we planted the first things in the garden. Won't happen this year. Still snow piles in the garden, part was flooded until today. Highs only in the 30's until middle of next week.
Is this GLOBAL WARMING ?
Busy getting the Cherry kitchen done. Going to install it Monday.
Also working at the Antique Store daily. I hope to be done soon.
33° with a high of 40°
A steady snow will continue to fall through late morning. Cloudy with temperatures reaching the mid 30s. Winds light and variable. Chance of snow 70%. Snowfall of about half an inch through 10:00am
Bernie, global warming is a tricky thing to explain, LOL!
I would be very tired of seeing snow piles! Putting in garden sounds much better. With Easter being so late, planting potatoes and onions on Good Friday was more likely to happen this year. I guess we take it as it comes.
I think the store will be done on time. The Boss never sleeps :o)
Bernie, what a colorful herd you have there, so cute! Grrrrr for the snow pile!
Ric, your hellebores are beautiful.
Rusty, love your pansies. Mine aren't blooming yet. I like those orange-purple ones.
Sally, glad you are sleeping well and have good dreams. Hugs to you! I hope you get some rain, but the pump will be helpful too.
Pepper, how are your plants doing?
My crocuses are blooming big time and the sun is up, 65F...what can be more beautiful ?
37 and dropping. Snow on the way tomorrow and could see anywhere from 3 to 5 inches. Depends on who you listen too. lol.
Plants are doing good. My grandma's forsythias are blooming and her roses have alot of new leaves on them but mine are running a bit later. Daffs are getting ready to bloom, crocuses finally came up and bloomed, and lots of green everywhere finally!!
The Hellebores are having an exceptional year!
They are one plant that you have to be resigned to investing for the long term.
As they mature the clumps get more outstanding w/ each season.
Some we've been working w/ for 7 years now.
Next weekend is the big Hellebore sale at our friend Clara's place.
She always has some dandies.
We have started potting up some of the seedlings... may start selling them ourselves... ;-)
Like most of you it's gotten cold here too.
No snow forecast though.
30° with a high of 38°
Mainly cloudy. Winds ENE at 15 to 25 mph. Scattered flurries
Adina, the pump will be used instead of dragging the hose out, so it will be very useful. Also, when the power goes out in thunderstorms, we still have water. If the lightning doesn't strike while DH is out pumping!
Agreed on beautiful crocus!!
Pepper, I saw a few flakes fall out of the sky and that was it. I'm convinced we are going to have a dry Spring in Iowa.
I'll bet those forsythia look wonderful! I'm eyeing those that only get abpout 4' X 4' No one around here have the bush any more and I miss seeing them.
Ric, I can see how hellebores could become an addiction! With so many gorgeous ones, mmm mmm mmm!
It was just cold and gloomy here yesterday, so we went for a nice long jeep ride. I really haven't been out except for groceries and Dr. appointments :o(
an eastward-moving weather disturbance will impact the region this
evening and overnight. snowfall will overspread the cincinnati
metro area during the mid evening hours, and then move east into
southern ohio and northeastern kentucky through midnight.
snowfall accumulations are expected to remain light, with around
an inch for locations along and south of a line from ripley county
indiana to pike county ohio. a few locations south of the ohio
river may see isolated totals of around an inch and a half.
Ric, the Hellebores have bulbs?I haven't seen many here, mostly in the parks. Snow again?!!!!
Sally, I have a forsythia branch in a pot inside. It hasn't died , but it doesn't seem to grow either. The one I had in the garden last year has died ...ugh!
Rusty, take care of your tomatoes!
Pepper, same weather here!
Strong wind and getting cold, 42F. Forecasted rain showers tonight. Snow in the mountains..hopefully not here in the plain!
Alpine squill was ripped off by the wind.
Cold is working out nice here. We have a big load of cabinets to deliver & install tomorrow. The ground was froze this morning, so we got the trailer by the shop & loaded it today. Supposed to freeze again tonight, so we can drive out in the morning with no trouble.
Sun was out today, but we still have the cold NE wind.
Installed the cabinets in the kitchen in the Twin Cities. They are cherry. Need to take doors & other parts up next Wed. She also is having us do some trim work, so do that Wed also.
My nephew called Sunday. He's ready to do his cabinets, too. Now we are talking work until mid June.
Indiana Berry shipped our Strawberry plants yesterday. I guess they will wait a bit for decent weather.
I am on a tour today. Mpls to pick up antiques I bought on an online auction Sunday night.
Back to Mankato to buy wood for various projects. Pick up a bunch of straw for chickens. Also going to pick up the rototiller I bought last winter.
26° with a high of 55°
A mix of clouds and sun. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
Pepper, we need to chant. Sunshine sunshine sunshine!
Early, great photo! What could be better than syrup time and taking your young one with you!
Yesterday, I went out to cut back a few more dead stems and my neighbor came over to see what I had up, then we went to her house to see what she had up. Her neighbor was out and we went over to talk to her. Needless to say. I didn't get much done, LOL!
Today we get the Grandkids, tomorrow too. Life is back to normal :o)
Sally, what fun with your neighbor!LOL
Great picture, E_B! Miss you and your pics!
Ric thanks for explanations.
Work has been very busy here and I had so many thigs to do lately, errands, writing articles and fixing the car..ugh! But I have only 2 more days and I'm on vacation...yiippeeeee!!!!! At least I will be able to rest !
I am finally gardening! It's sunny and 63F, no wind. I've been admiring the forsythia in the city on my way back home!LOL
41° with a high of 54°
A shower or two possible this morning with partly cloudy skies for the afternoon. Winds WNW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 30%.
Adina, it is fun! She has a yard about 10 times bigger and all the shrubs I ever thought of having, but have no room for, LOL! The other neighbor, I've shared plants with.
The forsythia is beautiful!
I'll bet the next two days can't go fast enough, but boy are you ready for a vacation!!
Pepper, I too have late daffodils. I always wonder why I never buy earlier one's.
We had a great day with the Grandkids yeaterday. It was only 50*, but nice enough to be out without a hat, and coat if you were running in the sun. They ended up spending the night because DD's ultrasound was rescheduled for today. That worked for me! Good think we just bought clothes to keep here :o)
