I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this article! Our little 14 yr old JR terrier/dachshund mix, Ms. Peanut, doesn't tolerate flea meds (topical or oral) very well and we have nearly lost her twice from the vet accidentally overdosing her. She is absolutely miserable in the latter part of the summer and well into the fall with flea allergies. Last year was the first time we saw signs of some relief for her with the vet-prescribed oral medication (think it was the Spinosad, but not sure), so there is hope!
As a last resort, I had planned to spray the yard last year, but after reading the labels on the chemicals I could not bring myself to buy any of them. I like the sound of the Insect Growth Regulator (IGR), and want to remember to ask the vet about a flea med that includes it! I will print this article to study more and determine what our yard strategy will be this year since she spends much time in one particular place in the yard. The majority of our yard is shaded by a pin oak grove, with sandy-clay soil that is moist enough that most of the lawn is moss!
Thank you so very much for such a comprehensive article!
