Thanks for the article.
In Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, it's also known as "Mata Kuching" or "Cat's Eye" among the Malay speaking folks.

Interesting! I like to try different exotic fruits. I will ask our favorite local Chinese restaurant if they can get these, as I haven't seen litchi on the buffet lately.

I guess we have here pretty much the same climate as in the Caribbean hence some common fruits.
Cat's eye sounds fine, but dragon's eye this extra flavor to it...
Chances are that in a Chinese restaurant you will get canned fruits, better than nothing but...

I don't remember seing the trees, or eating the fruit, in Persia, but we did enjoy the fruit in Lebanon and not too long ago in Israel, in the Arab market in Jerusalem.

I know that avocadoes and bananas are grown in Israel so I bet longan should thrive there also.

Surprisingly, last year I found some fresh ones in a giant supermarket in Ohio.
Box said to be imported from Mexico!

I bet they do grow many different fruits in Mexico, I traveled there 30 years ago and remember how rich and colorful street markets were. What price do those fruits sale for in Ohio?

I don't recall, they were not that expensive.
Unlike in some Asian cities, they were not weighted down with water!
Back in Singapore, I had to tell the hawkers to shake off as much water as they could before they weigh them.

I'll bet Jungle Jim's has them. They're an international market north of Cincinnati, about an hour from me.

KyWoods, it was at Jungle Jim's!!!!
We had our annual "Sistahs Reunion" last year @ one of the DGers' home. She lived in Franklin, close to JJ's market in Fairfield.

Funny you should mention gorilla!! There was a giant gorilla outside the market!
You'd have fun there Jacques. They have international mini stalls inside the market that display the countries' food specialty. Including viva La France!

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that big gorilla! I wonder if we'll get one at the new location they're supposed to open about 25 minutes from me...

Well of course I had to know about the gorilla, I mean JJ stands for both Jungle Jim's and Jean-Jacques or is it Jungle Jean?
