4 years ago I bought a dicentra spectabilis and spectacular it is. I stuck it in shady rich soil and it has become the biggest bleeding heart I've ever seen - last year I measured it: nearly 6ft h x 8'.2" across. In the height of its season, this bleeding heart becomes the end of a garden path that normally passes by and around; as there's no getting through nor another option to pass (however, we eventually miss taking the path and resort to trimming it along one edge)
My husband calls it a State Fair winner but tucked in the fern garden near the steps leading up to the wild raspberries, its unlikely a judge from the fair will ever view it ... but to us it wears a spectacular 'Best of Show' every year.
I took this picture a few minutes ago and if I remember, I'll post another next month or so - from which you'll see what I mean.
