Ok another nursery that doesn't know the name of their plants. What is up with that? I live in South Florids. Sorry the flowers where close by the time I got them home but they look like a small Bauhinia flower. They sed pods are bristley. Not sure if that is a word! The leaves are stiff. Anyway... Any ideas?
It does not look like Annatto to me. It's been about 30 years since I've seen one in person, so my memory may be failing me. However, here are differences I note:
Annatto flowers are usually pink with five petals and dark anthers. Fruit are held ins somewhat tight clusters at the ends of branches. Leaves are smooth with an entire margin, not serrated. Fruit is prickly, not fuzzy. So, I see the following hits against it:
Too few petals.
Wrong color flowers
Inflorescence is spread out rather than clustered.
Leaves are serrated
Leaves are not smooth
Fruit is fuzzy instead of prickly
One or two of these differences might pass muster, but not all of them, I don't think.
