I have found that the office workers at the local college have a habit of putting nearly expired poinsettias outside the office door on the curb in the months after xmas. There the plants sit with no college nursery worker seeming to pick them up. Now I keep an eye out and offer to take the sad plant off their hands. I do not bother to revive them...have tried to in the past and it is beyond my powers, but the pot and potting mix are happily recycled.
