Answer to 6-4-11 Garden Riddle

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I'm Capsicum annuum the pepper. Some of my relatives are fiery hot, while others are mild enough for children to eat.

Capsicum annuum is a member of the Solanaceae family as are tomatoes, eggplants, tobacco, datura and petunia. Native to the Americas, the plants have been embraced by all cultures in every corner of the globe. Pepper lends a spicy flavor to many recipes and very few homes are without it. Grow peppers in full sun after all danger of frost has passed. They prefer rich, well-drained soil with plenty of organic material worked in.
