I opened up a bag and used it shiny side up under a summer squash plant to help repel borers. So far so good; I have baby squash just starting. The bag does not degrade readily when on top of the soil and mostly dry. The bag can be turned under or tossed in the regular compost when it's time to clean up the squash vines.
