One thing I like about daylilies is the ease with which they can be transported bare root. I've shared daylily divisions with my son and his family by digging up divisions, sticking them in labelled paper or plastic bags, and hauling them hundreds of miles in my car. On one occasion, at least a week after I had brought plants to them, my daughter-in-law was surprised to see bright blooms sticking up out of a paper bag that had been overlooked and mistakenly tossed aside as empty. To the statement that daylilies "can bloom in good soil or poor soil," we can add "or sometimes no soil."
