I need to replace my invasive ROSE of SHARON because of the seedlings it produces. Is there something else that attracts Hummingbirds
that I can put in its place that doesnt produce seed pods?

Any of the honeysuckles, bush or vine; jasmine, tecoma stans (esperanza) if it grows there. Though they prefer red flowers, they will go to the others.

As SoTX said, honeysuckle is great. I have red honeysuckle growing on a trellis that got big fast and the hummers love it (I do too). It's easy to keep pruned for size. I also have pink jasmine which the hummers like too but it doesn't grow as fast as the honeysuckle--still beautiful though.

thanks for the info, but I live in southern ohio and dont believe Jasmin will grow here, and dont know about the esperanza. I planted the yellow honeysuckle (wild I assume) and it is so INVASIVE that it is choking out my other plants and taking over the fence, killing the shrubs, and other plants. Is the red different? I ordered red,but it never grew so maybe that was a good thing.

I havent seen one hummer this year, anyone else having the same issue?
    thanks,Ronnie

I've seen a couple of them this year but not my usual bunch. One male and one female.

Yellow honeysuckle is very invasive and is choking out our native red down here. We found a small patch of red honeysuckle at our hunting camp and dug up a small piece which is the one referenced in my response above. It doesn't spread at all like the Japanese yellow variety. My red plant has been in the ground for three years and still has not gone beyond the trellis I have it on.

The red honeysuckle is definitely less of a problem, and also more attractive to hummingbirds with its red tubular flowers. Unfortunately the Esperanza won't be hardy in Ohio so you'll have to cross that one off the list.
