Well I sure did not know that seeds passed through the track of cows and horses, whole, fertile and ready to grow.

So, I give up! What chance do I have with just a rotiller and a hoe!

If you hot compost the manure the heat will kill the weed seeds.

Yes, I know but still that is a pretty powerful desire to live on the seed's part!

Whew! I am tired and on my way to bed it has been a busy day. I have a huge watermelon patch and
I just finished putting some straw and hay with horse and sheep manure around my water melon plants.
We piled all this stuff up in a corner toward the end of last summer. Can you believe that there were still big hard balls of the --- well I am not sure - I thought it was the horse's but maybe it is the sheep's ?
Do you think that 10 months is long enough for this manure?

You bet, seeds are dispersed in poo by birds and animals. As far as composting, I have horse manure composted 4 years and there are still a few weeds that come up out of it. NOTHING like the weeds that come from the 2 year compost Ive used. Bermuda grasses and tumbleweeds abound. Its good stuff but makes for alot of work if not well composted.

    DARN!
Then I am in for a lot of work!
But thanks for the warning, at least now I will know it is coming from the manure and not the straw.
Which I had thought previously it did.
