Here in Missouri we are blessed with native dogwood and redbud in woodland areas each spring.
And in every neighborhood the streets will be enhanced with dogwoods in white, pink, and red.
But to see the Chinese giant dogwood, most of us will have to visit the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis which has several of these trees. One mature specimen is across the path from the crocus lawn.
To see pictures of Cornus controversa go to http://www.mobot.org and ask for Plant Finders and then giant dogwood.
Thanks for writing about my favorite tree (or is it redbud?)
