Interest thread: Halloween Hop Swap

Syracuse, NY(Zone 5a)

Today i saw fall decor at dollar tree!!! It's just around the corner...(& down the road a piece) so i got to thinking!!! Who here would be interested in a Halloween swap? I love Halloween and fall and i think it would be so fun to share decor, local or homegrown gourds and apples, spooky named plants, seeds, candy, plus it's dividing time for many so all sorts of plants could be included. There is just something about the fall that i love, & want to share. :) anyone interested?

Since this is just for seeing who's interested, and this would be my first time running a swap feel free to throw out ideas and suggestions.
I figure I'll begin sign ups the 1st of September? Cut off by the 19th? Swap partners given on the 20th? Packages must be mailed by the 20th of October?
But I'm also thinking maybe sooner so we can use our new decorations and goodies? Not sure yet, but lets hear ideas here and see what happens!

Look at the swaps list and see what is going on. Pick a time when there is a lull in stuff. I get wrapped up in too many going on at the same time.

Elfie @ Goodwater,, AL(Zone 7b)

I like halloween and have a bunch of stuff to send already!! so count me in.

No Witchery GOING ON Without me :) & I Say if sign is sept there is plenty of Notice here & Many stores already have things to make a nice center piece or Lawn ornaments so why not keep mail out date by the 5th of oct so as you say we can put them on display for the month not just for a week .

I love Turkeys, & scarecrows :)

Syracuse, NY(Zone 5a)

I think that sounds good too!
Maybe in the sign up people can say what style they like, scary stuff or harvest style, that way no one looses sleep after getting a box of fake bloody body parts and zombie movie trilogy....unless of course they want to! :) (like me!) LOL

Elfie @ Goodwater,, AL(Zone 7b)

I like the Oct 5th cut off too.

Barbourville, KY(Zone 7a)

I do too...more time to enjoy the harvest.
I am the scary type, myself.

Ok this will be my first time as a swap hostess! I'm very excited. So since it would seem there is plenty of interest I'll make a new sign up swap thread. Should i just go ahead with that now since it seems we've all been ready since last Halloween?! Lol then cut off sign ups by September 15th, swap partners notified by September the 17th. Newbies mail by October 1st to ensure they don't get their treats and play a trick. And all others mail by the 5th.
Sound good?!

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

I will leave the details up to experienced hostess', so am not going to give any input on that one.

If winter didn't follow fall, I would really enjoy fall...rofl.
I need spring, summer, fall, spring, summer, fall, course without winter I would probably work myself to death.

Syracuse, NY(Zone 5a)

Still here busy busy busy. Yesterday no power so all my chores were put off cause we had no water. Lol my green house is infested with weeds so I'm overhauling with round up, plastic and boxes, so had to relocate everything including the kwanzo daylily. plus my sister was out. Then i realized Omg august already! Better get moving!!!

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Another record today. 115*. It is going to gradually cool down to 103* by Tuesday. But, oh my Lord, do we need rain! When DH dug the grave for me, he had to use the pick to bust the dirt up. He dug down probably 16" and it is dry as dry can get! UGH!!!!!

Syracuse, NY(Zone 5a)

Aww crit. :( we finally got rain today, I'll bottle it up and send it to ya! ;) i have next weekend off, I'm pretty sure it'll rain then too! Lol

Sand Springs (Tulsa), OK(Zone 7a)

Been some showers south, east and north of us. But not much west or here. :-( And not enough to put an end to this drought. Don't want to wish a hurricane or tropical storm on anyone, but that usually brings us good rains if it goes into the middle of the gulf of Mexico when it hits landfall.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Outlaw do you heat your greenhouse all winter? What kind do you have? I want one but figured since I am on propane I could only use it in early early spring. Winter is probably out of the question. I do have a garden room that is kind of a hybrid greenhouse and a solar room. My big problem happens in early spring when the sun starts moving north, the plants don't get enough sun in the garden room.

Syracuse, NY(Zone 5a)

This is my first year with it, it's just a basic one you can buy at lowes or harbor freight. We won't be heating it and i plan to use it for wintersowing. The only things I'll be overwintering in it are this years Hydrangea cuttings, and maybe a few others.
Kinda worried that once it really gets snowing i won't be able to get into it. The door slides on a track, but idk.... We'll see how it works

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Habor Freight has great prices and I have read the forums and some people did some extra work on them but sounds like a great deal. Never thought about an issue with a sliding door....hummm. Need to get a bottle of deicer...rofl. You are going to have so much fun with it.
