I do not NOT want to go to work !!!! I want to stay home and make a Christmas quilt !!!!
ohhh but it will need some borders?? and some backing??!!! guess I better go to work ...sew I can make some money...sew I can buy some fabric...make a truck payment: got to be able to get to the store...pay the electric bill: got to be able to run the sewing machine!! yup guess I got to go to work ... ahhhh shucks !!! and phoey ^_^
Thank you Mystery person - I actually love the berry fabric, have it in green, beige and 5 yards of the red - have used it for the past 2 years. beautiful block. Will we ever know who the mystery is? Such generousity should be told.
My sister, Patty got me connected to the internet and I was able to get my camera driver downloaded so I am gradually getting back to my computing. Haven't solved the email problem yet but working on it. It is a pain to have to go to the library to get your mail. I did buy a new Sony Vaio computer, sent it home with my grandson. He had brought his two year old HP with Windows XP. I just couldn't get used to the Windows 7 and have a low frustration level for all things electronic, so with his dad's blessing, we swapped. Our son, Rob has taken my old computer home to KY to recover my files and photos. I should get it back in November when we get together for Thanksgiving. I have purchased two 4 G flash drives and with back up my photos and files on them so this doesn't happen again. I wanted to share my pictures of the blocks that I have received since the computer crashed.
This is my block from Pat. Thank you Pat. It will be sewn into a row this week. Going to add sashing of white tone on tone. I want to thank everyone for that added bit of bling. My granddaughter Taylor is going to love this quilt. She turns 16 in August. Pat also included my block from the "Mystery" quilter, gotta love this group!
From Laura (House301) I received this crisp traditional block. Thank you. It will really pop when framed with sashing.
I've also received some blocks from the "Different" swap, and I'll photograph them and try to get them posted, too. I also "found" the fabric for Stu that I got at Keepsake. Can you belioeve it I actually had put it in a safe place, suitcase pocket, knowing my suitcase would be going to Florida. I'm taking no chances, going to mail it out while I have it in sight.
I got blocks from Pat, Barb, and Laura plus the mystery one. I had totally forgotten about this swap and was so glad to be reminded. Unfortunately I haven't been keeping track the way I usually so with a swap so I have NO IDEA who I have sent to nor who I have received from. Can't you all help me out?
I thought I was done with all of my commitments but want to be sure.
I have not sent any of these out yet...all are cut out and I am sewing them, today and tomorrow, and maybe one more day will be needed. then I will be mailing next pay check...I will send charms, with the ones in both swaps...
Pat, received my very lovely winter blocks from you and "mystery". They are so pretty, I just love them. I'll post as soon as we settle in and I find my camera. We are nomads until around the 24th of this month.
Linda you should have received mine too. They were finished and mailed on 7/12. On 7/15 you posted the picture of the block I sent. I did sign the back before I mailed them...Can you check and if you have misplaced it, I'll make another...
Love the color combinationsmand patterns..really should be finishing my last five but so hot..decided to paint a floor mat for back deck, should have sewn, humidity doesn't lead to paint drying...perhaps tonight..
I feel like I sewed all day yesterday, and only finished three blocks!!!...
well I did take lots of breaks, talked on the phone for about an hour, two or three times with hubs...talked to the dil a few times, and skyped with the sailor...so I guess I did not sew all day...about 20 or so pieces in the blocks...thought I would be further along...well guess I best get back to it!!
Yes Barb, see the back of each block, I labeled which one was mine, which came from Mystery. What cracks me up is that the block I chose was a variation of the one Mystery chose!! LOL, I knew I liked her block!
I LOVE the fabric Mystery has in the center of her Winter theme blocks. I found some at JoAnn's so I think buy a little to use the blocks I make to complete my blue & white quilt top. Provided of course I actually get that far!!! I have great hopes!
Everybody moving along on their commitments, most of the blocks have gone out I believe. There are a STill a few to go and the deadline is approaching. I'm going to do a sort of mine and group them into colors. I have blocks from SEVERAL different swaps to work with plus I made another 5 extra blocks to finish out the Christmas & blue and white. My husband took my sewing machine foot into the repair shop today. I guess I'll have to do cutting and sorting until he comes home!
Something got screwd up in the power. When I took my foot off the pedal it kept going slowly, sometimes for quite a while! and would not respond properly, like I'd push down for FAST and sometimes just get slow speed. My Sweetie called and the repair guy pieced another foot together from partials he had so tonight I'll have a foot again!
MAILING DEADLINE: August 20, 2011. Post LOTS of pics if you can!!! For those that just like to "lurk" and follow along, pics are especially important. Besides that's how we "hook" in lurkers to become participants!
Is there anybody who thinks they are going to need an extension on the deadline for mailing??
I have not sent any out yet, but I am on a very good "roll" with getting them done...they are all cut out, many pieces are together...sewwwww I should be good with the deadline. ^_^
as long as I did not just Jinx myself... :( that would be bad !!
one of my machines is sewing a few of the decorative stitches only in reverse !!! Hubby says it is the "timing" He is gonna play with it and see what he can do...cost almost as much as the purchase price, just for them to open it up and take a look!!!! so I figure I will let him have a go at it??!!
it is my "extra / spare" machine, and I got it at a very good price, on sale. $150.00 and sewing center said $100.00 just to look at it !!! then additional $$ if it needs any parts !! and additional $$ depending on what they have to do to fix it!!! forget that !
Picked up some blocks..got to figure out how to get my camera off German or other language so I can unlock..absolutely love them..wish I knew who mystery was..guess if I did sh/he would have to chain their name. Lol
I'll be checking my P O box a little more closely! I'm not good about getting the mail daily but that's one of the reasons we went to a P O box... our curb side box was not safe!
I've been playing with my blocks... this swap and from the last 2 Christmas swaps, making different combinations. I have not decided yet... I KNOW for sure it will be pretty! We have received some BEAUTIFUL blocks and they will make some GREAT quilts!
I am pretty sure that everyone has received my block and posted except jumper2. It was mailed a long time ago so i am concerned that it didn't make it's destination. I would be happy to send another. Lucy, please let me know.
Mittsy, there are a couple of us that haven't posted a note that they've received their blocks, but responded to me that they had when I D-mailed. Hoping that they will post a picture when they've collected all the blocks.
OK, Lucy will make you another. I've had some issues with the mail from Cocoa Beach making it to it's destination.
We had the most wonderful visit with Barb and Norm. Wish they could have stayed longer. Next time! She brought me books, fabric and a kit and I sent her on with a charm square template, quilting magazines and her leftover lunch. She got to meet mom, Marty, and was gifted with two crocheted rugs. Mom so loves her purple placemats. I am so thankful for my online family, I truly am blessed.
yea anticipation of Irene !!! arrrrgghhh every one around here is going crazy !! shopping frenzy!! they live in Florida for pete's sake...hurricanes can happen!! should already be prepared !!! they should not have to go so crazy and buy out the stores of juices and water, and canned foods...
if it hits the bottom of the state, by the time it gets here...it will not be bad I think even if it comes in at us side ways it still wont be bad!!! I just can not understand why every one gets sooo crazy !!!
ok I am done venting..thanks for listening!! love ya :)
Thunder, I am always amazed at the lack of prepareness. Sometimes there are reasons for it... poverty and lack of funds to even have the most basic things "stored and in ready". Moving too many times to make storage possible. Living in such tight quarters that having extra is nearly impossible...
Been gradually preparng ourselves, as usual, since April. We have to make sure we have enough water and fod for the kids as well. This year, at least we have the new Ford Transit. It's phenominal and can hold all the crates we need plus. We went to it to replace the CRV. It's a real boone for us for the dog shows... makes everything so much easier as we can stack crates four high at the back and the doors open 180 degrees. The rest of the stuff (grooming table, Xpens, folding chairs, cart for the crates, tack box, bag of this and that, etc.) goes between the folded back seats and the crates and we don't have to have one of us ride on the roof rack. It'll make evacuation (if it comes to that) much easier. We may even have room now for some clothes.
Thunder, I so agree...you live in Florida, you know this time of year comes. I am watching the other side of the prep story being near a university. No beer, tons of frozen food...always wondered how they think they will cook it if power should go out, chips and etc. Is this college life or wishful thinking on their part. Hummm maybe just away from home and buy what they want. LOL
Stu, my sister was considering a Transit. Glad to hear you post about yours. Sounds like it is very roomy,,,how is the gas mileage?
That is about what my sister is getting now with her present car---2003 Mazda. It is 96 miles round trip when she goes to see Mom and gas mileage is something she is really thinking about. Ross and I wanted an Odyssey when we returned from the project in Israel in 1999 but there wasn't even one to test drive at the time in Gainesville. I ended up with Subaru (loved it) but just before Ross passed he got this "bug" to get me another car. Still driving my '04 Toyota Highlander and will not complain about the gas mileage---25.
I got Thunder's block today as well. It is so well done and beautiful. This is going into a holiday table runner that I'm making for my dining room along with Janice's and a couple of extra that I made of ones that I sent out. Thanks Thunder, it really is impressive.
Both are wonderful, love the bling.
I had pieced one for Lucy and took it to my sister's so I could use it to give her a lesson on her recent ebay purchase of an embroidery machine. We had a lot of fun figuring out how to set it up and practised using some new bargain rayon embroidery thread she also bought on ebay. Won't post a picture, don't want to spoil the surprise.
Thunder,I forgot to acknowledge on this thread the beautiful Christmas block you sent me. I LOVE it! Where did you get that beautiful ivory & gold print snowflake??? I've been looking for something like that and have not been abe to find it!
Hello, everyone! Sorry I've been MIA . . . started work, and I've pretty much not gotten anything done, aside from getting the kids to school and learning my new job. I do have my blocks done, and will be getting them out in the mail tomorrow after work.
IF any of you know Ladybug and Cheriffic personally, if you would check in with them. I have not seen them post or have I seen any blocks received FROM them. I know many of you have mailed your blocks to them and have not yet received your blocks in return.
I acknowledge that there are few swappers that getting the last of their blocks out, a little behind schedule but doing great work! Keep up the good work and please finish up your commitments.
In about a month from now I will encourage you all to leave feedback to each swapper, same as any other trade. This is important information , for future swaps. It's been a great experience, some BEAUTIFUL blocks!
Love the block Barb.. sure felt good putting stamps on the envelopes..
Had a bit of a problem, had painting all the envelopes and letters awhile ago, had set the last 5 envelopes away until I needed them..omg took me 1/2 the day to find them and know who were still missing blocks..won't do that again...until the next time lol
I was going to work on those but Irene put a stop to that when the power went out we had no sump pump so sewing room got water in it. But I was prepared with everything in totes and off the floor.
Been everthing back today not quite finished. I will finish tomorrow.
I fell in love with it!!! Silver !! on the blue...so many holiday fabrics have gold, not too many with silver... I fussy cut a few birds, and sent them out to those folks that I thought might like them, for one reason or another...I know Barb feeds the birds in her yard and watches them!!!
I got a message from Ladybug/ Gloria and she asked me to pass this along: "Please tell the group you heard from me and a few obstacles have gotten in the way and thank them for their patience, I would really appreciate it. And as much as I hate to say this, I will not be joining a swap again until my life calms down. Thank you and please forgive me for my tardiness. Gloria
Yes , we all sure do have things come about...that we do not expect..
Ladybug / Gloria...take care of your self, and what ever you need to take care of. Do a block for me, or not..what ever is best for you...hopefully things will change for you and we will "see" you on another swap, at another time...
((((((((((((((((((((Gloria)))))))))))))))))))))))))) if you don't know...this is big hugs !!!!!
I received my block from Thunder today. So pretty, thank you for the bling. Granddaughter Taylor will love it.
We went to our local Harbor freight store and they had the carpet cutters in stock and on sale for a 2 pack $1.49, so I bought 12 packs to take to Fl for the winter. Already tried it out and it works fine in my Olfa handle. I also bought myself a new head strap magnifier with 4 different strength lens. I just can not read tiny print like the phone book and coupons with my bifocals.
The magnifier even has a built in light, operates off of 2 batteries. was on sale for $9.99 and i had a 20% off coupon so I paid $7.99 plus tax. Then they gave me a 6 piece screwdriver set for free. What a deal.
Love it Mittsy..omg now that's a bargooon if I ever saw one.
I had so many photo's to put on the threads for swaps and goodies I received on Barb's visit that I thought I had posted Thea and Barb's blocks but see I have not..promise/promise I will this evening..
then our Laura sent Barb her block and it was also hand delivered along with a bundle of Christmas fabric..add her fabric to the large box of Christmas fabric that Barb gave me and wow double wow...talk about being spoilt!
LOL , you tell that Norm I'm working hard in the basement cleaning up boxes of fabrics, letting the scraps go and getting organized to sew..being a good girl..am having coffee withdrawals..so must keep busy..where's Norm when I need him.. have to make a 's_x in a pan cake' in hopes he'll be hungry enough to come back..
just getting back to down time. Finished my four placemats for the swap this evening. Got the house cleaned today as my brother and his wife will be here tomorrow. Norm says he has enough s-x here to last for a while... Can't wait until tomorrow morning. Brought home some Timmies in a can and I can have it only on Sunday morning to make it last!!! I'm not addicted am I?????
What Norm has had enough of is a most fantastic dessert that is very sweet. Betty and her friends call it "S-X in a pan"!!!!! He also had a lot of Timmies French Vanilla while we were away and it, too, is loaded with sugar. But I'm really loving that coffee and had to bring some home...
Sunday morning promotion to international goodwill!!!!
There's a Timmies right near the restaurant where we took you to lunch. If only I had known. I have to avoid coffee shops because I can't stop with just coffee, gotta have a sweet, too. And I'm already well on my way to being a "dumplin". My baby sister is complaining about her "muffin top". Passed that stage years ago.
Forgot to add that Lucy's block was mailed out yesterday. Stu's "Keepsake" fabric too.
No Timmies here this morning Barb but wishing I did have some.
We are getting pelted with rain and some wind from one of the outer bands of Lee--I didn't think it would reach us but guess I was wrong. Had 2" over night with a generous pruning by Nature! LOL They have put us in a tornado watch area and there is plenty of thunder in the background. Good day to stay inside and work on my projects.
LindaKay, was great news for sure about Janice..giving her a few days and will call..need update on Stacey as well!
For those of you who want the recipe for " s-x in a pan" I could post it..talk about smooth and decadent!! I'd make one but know I'd eat the entire thing...
Not quite sure what I'll do with my blocks..have last year blocks as well..already have Xmas quilts for beds and lap quilts for living room..working on 3 "12 month of Christmas" wall hanging/lap quilt for Dil's so nobody to give to..perhaps table cloth , runners or Christmas bags!
I'm thinking of making a couple of throws from my blocks, this years, and last years and previous... WHY I think I'll get it all done this year I don't know since I never got the two previous years done!! I'm either an eternal optimist or severely in denial!
Ya... I call myself a "Block Collector" not a quilter. I even have a couple quilt tops made up and not finished! It's been a couple of years since I saw one completely thru to the finished project end with a usable blanket! Still... I take them out, look at them and smile. Sometimes I even spread them out on my bedspread and stack them according to a sewing plan... Maybe this year... maybe not!! LOL
Have I told all you wonderful ladies how much I love you??? I have been sitting here reading last night's and today's posts to Norm and we have had so much laughter. Thank you so much. What a great group we are!!!!
And Norm wants to hear from the first one who makes S-X in a pan!!!!
Had a friend who dropped in and I was downloading a pattern I purchased for a " sassy scarfette" so before I knew it I had copied the pattern, found some wool and started one to show her how and voila it's bedtime!
Dare I hope? Cutting table is back up on the wall. Shelves going up now. I think I'll have a sewing room soon. Will be an adjustment, the smallest room yet and no closet to hide things in. I'll be posting all my pretties that I have received soon. YEA!!!!!
Karen, ALL of life is an adjustment, you know that! I'm sure that even though it's not as wonderful as what you have once had, you will make it wonderful and organized, you will wonder why you EVER needed as much room as before!! (OK, maybe you won't go QUITE that far!! hehe)
I went to the dollar store and bought clear plastic storage bins the size of shoe boxes to help organize some of my stuff. Every so often I have seen a computer armoire for FREE on Freecycle, that might help solve some of your need to hide it away. Skirting your table to store boxes underneath will help and you will find many other creative ways to make do I'm sure.
I'll bet you are feeling good about downsizing and economizing, creating greater financial security. Or maybe I am projecting here...
Which address listed in the exchange is the one you want mailed to? And for how long will this address be good? Just trying to keep everybody updated. We have a few of us going thru changes and moves right now.
Pat, thanks for the kind words. The Traverse City address is the correct one until we sell this place. It is an adjustment but one we are making as you say for better financial security. This will be fine and I will manage, I have after all been rather spoiled in the nice large rooms I had before. I do plan on some clear storage bins as I reclaimed some nice shelves I had used previously. They will make up for the lack of a closet. I still remind myself of how fortunate I am to have as much as I do. Most of my griping is done in jest.
I understand. There are days when I miss my beautiful yard, huge sewing area with 2 work tables and much bigger household income ... but then I remember Husband #1 (the EX) and remember how truly BLESSED I am!!! Sometimes I need to remind MYSELF I'd live in a tent with my Sweetie, he is wonderful!
i remember sewing on the kitchen table in small place and c...under my breath NG Husband NG kids and what have you. I produced better things there than I do now.
Karen you'll be just fine. the closeness will produce mental energy . Wal-Mart has these flat storage boxes which I love and use for threads and keeping projects together and blocks from block swaps. Intend to get more for pre-cut squares.Patterns and such. They snap shutso nice and dust free
LOL... I am more concerned about not giving my CAT another "bed" to choose from. I caught her trying to cozy up into a big box on my shelves in my sewing room. I leave ONE box way-up-high open for her, THAT should be enough!
Thank you all so much. And the cake looks fabulous Linda!!! And it has NO calories - right???? Betty - sounds like you are still on that NO BURNING roll!!!!! Really though, You can make me a cake anytime and I know I'd love it...
Poor Barb, it's the beginnings of oldtimers! The fabric in the box you left for me was sorted and some deemed perfect for Stu, as I was already mailing him a packet, I just included it. You need more Timmie's! Going to take mom and my sister out for Butter tarts at Timmie's this Saturday. Neither have been there yet so it will be a nice treat. Jack is off to an all day clambake with all his old buddies from GE so we're having a girl's day out.
Update on ladybugs, I don't know where it came from but I have fabric with teeny tiny ladybugs on it, so I embroidered more in an all over design. Only have to cut them to 5" squares. So cute. I was trying to figure out how to make a jar so I could capture one for Marion. Have to give it more thought.
So glad you like the birch leaf, Barb as that is one of your 9 in the Holiday charm square swap. Just realized I posted all the pics on the wrong thread. Made homemade chicken noodle soup and pulled a loaf of onion dill bread out of the freezer, The weatherman says it's 60 but it feels much cooler. Arthiritis in my knuckles is bad today. Will be glad when this front moves on through. Have to keep checking on the sump pump to make sure it can handle all this rain. Back to the sewing machine.
Mittsy, I know the rain situation where you are is serious but picture this if you can. When the weather comes on here in New England, the map always shows as far west as Niagra Falls. So when the weatherman is giving the report, Betty and Dianne are located just over his shoulder. Now where do you suppose you are located?????? Norm and I both remarked on the amount of bright orange and yellow in your "area".
In the basement with the french drain spilling over onto the cellar floor. Thank God the sump pump is working and we have power. Got to check the pond today to see if I need to rescue any of my fish. They don't survive if they end up stranded in the lawn to the right of the garage. Only a very light rain falling now. Will take some puddle pictures when it gets light.
Ok, I am really . . . perturbed . . . with dear hubby. Last week, I gave him 13 envelopes to take to the post office. Guess what is in them? Nobody has said that they've received my blocks yet, so I asked dear hubby today what day lat week he mailed them, and he said that he had forgotten, and they had been sitting in the car until yesterday morning! He only took them to the post office yesterday! I am so sorry, all! Hopefully you will all start to receive them starting tomorrow . . .
Hello everyone I have missed you all so much. So many things have gone on and I am just know getting back to my life. I have my Christmas/Winter blocks ready to go out I am so sorry these are so late. I will hit the PO at lunch time tomorrow.
I know I owe from one more block swap and I owe a very very patient someone a pot holder I will get them out I am trying to catch up I fell so far behind. I hope you all like them and that they were worth the wait.
