*toccata and fugue plays*
Boo!!!!
Good evening guys and ghouls, and welcome to my 1st annual Halloween Hop Swap!
Allow me to introduce myself as your ghostess, Kelly; and invite you in (vampires welcome)
As the hallowed eve approaches there are preparations to be made!
No garden should be without gourds, pumpkin seeds, tombstones, scarecrows, owls and toads. No shrubery without spiderweb.
No door without wreath. No gardener without costumes, creatures, candles, black roses, candy and poison apples!
Mua Ha ha ha Haa!
& don't forget it's harvest time! Share what's being divided, or show off your homegrown gourds, Indian corn, homemade treats, or favorite local treats like cider or apple butter!

here is a link for some fun ideas of Halloween garden items you can send, get creative, get carried away Mua Ha Haa ha ha Haa!!!
http://www.clemson.edu/extfor/wildlife/The Halloween Garden.doc

sign ups begin...now!
And must be in no later than the 15th of September
Swap partners will be given on the 16th of September

Packages must be shipped (preferably with confirmation) no later than October 5th.

To be added to the swap please d-mail me with:
*your name
*your address

then respond here in this thread and let us know what kind of tricks and treats enjoy,
Tell us your scare style, are you the kinda person who puts out hay bales, or severed heads? This is so you don't unknowingly open a box that gives you nightmares for life!

If you have dietary restrictions, severe food allergies, you can mention them if you like, i feel we'll see a lot of treats in these boxes and I'd hate to send a bag of reeses pumpkins (my favorite ;) To someone with a peanut allergy.

Let the Halloween hop Swap begin!!!!

I'm in this sounds to be right up my alley!!!

I'm a skull freak in general. Have a tendency towards what most consider a darker side... skulls, gargoyles, crows.

Love plants with "dark" names or that are a deep rich red or black in color, fall bulbs are great. Chimes, anything that lights up is great.

Celtic, gothic, and pagan items appeal to me. All my tattoos are dragon related or celtic in theme. I'm in gemstones and rocks lately. I have an interest in herbs and the kitchen witch theme...lol.

No restrictions that I know of =0)

PRAISE GOD!!!!!!!!! Praise God! Praise GOD!!!!!! We are getting some MUCH NEEDED RAIN. We are 22" behind for the year and things are burning up with the lack of water and 100*+ and 110*+ temps we have had this summer. I think I heard we have had 38 days like this already. Our normal for the year is 11 of 100+. Even some of my plants that I kept watered died just from the heat. I lost my Polly dog due to heat stress, even though she was a house dog, and only outside when I went out. :-( Temps today and tomorrow are only 90* and in the 90's all week. What a relief!

There was even a huge full rainbow and the clouds were just amazing tonight. I wish you more rain, so you can have rainbows too. (which go well with rainbow sprinkles!)

I miss the trick or treaters, I use to love it in the city when they would come to the door. I have a great long driveway that could be fixed up so cool but no one would come ;( One of the maintenance guys I use to work with would decorate up his garage for his 3 sons and the neighbor kids, then his sons grew up and he kept doing for the neighbor kids, then they grew up and would bring their kids back year after year. He made alot of memories for alot of people. So we go over to my DGD's house and go walk with her, which has been a lot of fun.

I wish I had pictures to post from last year. I bought a small coffin (long story) and did a big display in a friends front yard. I live on top of a hill and it would not have been seen there.
When I brought the coffin to her house we slid it out of my van and left it standing up there while we went to get some help to move it. When we came back, there was a man who had stopped in the middle of the road and was looking it over. He wanted to buy it!
My coffin is now in that friends basement, but I don't know if I will be able to get it up the stairs to use this year. I may have to decorate down there this time.

I always enjoyed Halloween and the trick or treaters. I enjoyed the kids, some of them were so cute!!!!! Last year was our first year in this house and had NOT ONE tot'er. I was so disappointed. My neighbor said they have never had any. I really missed it.

That's neat about the guy and the spookhouse in his garage. There is a family in my hometown (approx 2000 people) that started doing a cotton candy machine when I was in high school (we had our 35th reunion in 2010). Their son was in my class. They are still doing it. That is "the place" to go in town. It is so neat.

I agree happ! :) just moved to the country luckily my nephew lives across the street. :) and some kids moved in down the road so we'll see. Last year in the city we didn't get a single one either. Halloween is also my little brothers birthday, so we usually have a party for him. But he'll be 20, he probably has better plans this year. Lol

I see the hand surgeon on Wednesday. Still have numbness on the tip and down the side of my finger. Hope I don't have to learn to type like this permanently. I do pretty well, but not the 70 wpm I use to do. :-)

I was all ready for the trick or treaters to come by last year, our first year here. I know there are kids around as I see them playing on the road with their bikes and skateboards (we are the bottom of an up and down spot), and they come by when they are selling things for school or scouts. NOT ONE came by. I was so disappointed. We use to have quite a few when we lived in town. I loved seeing all their little costumes. My neighbor told me later they have been here 8 years and never had any come by. :-(

I haven't had a trick or treater at my door in +20 yrs. Part of being rural , I know we always packed up our kids and went to town so they could walk from house to house. I moved 2 yrs ago (separation) and am on the outskirts of town now. Still no trick or treaters. Last year I didn't even bother to decorate or buy candy... you know it's depressing when you don't even buy yourself a bag of chocolate to eat...lol

Looking forward to the swap and gettin my spook on !!

Crit good luck with the surgeon. I had horrible carpal tunnel and surgery a few years ago made a big difference in my hand. Problem was it made the dr realize the issues in my arm were separate from the carpal tunnel...lol. I have bad nerve damage, had to sell my motorcycle last year as my throttle arm is shot.

Blessings to all in Irene's wake !!!!

Hi all! Looking forward to Halloween, even though it means the end of a mild summer up here and the beginning of snow season.

I lean towards a more pagan Halloween celebration style, with some pirate stuff and el dia de los muertos thrown in for fun. I also have a witches' garden starting in my backyard. Black colored plants are right up my alley!

Looking forward to gettin' my swap on!

A town near where I grew up has a HUGE Halloween celebration called Neewollah (Halloween spelled backwards). It has been featured on several things and I think may be in the Guiness' book also. Look up Neewollah in Independence, KS. They also have a 2+ hour parade every year. People come from all around for the carnival, contests, food, concert, parties in the street, etc. It's pretty cool !!!!

The stores here have things out...I found this 'item' at Cracker Barrel! I haven't been to Hobby Lobby or Michael's yet. Oh and Gordman's! They have a ton of things there!

I like the black cats, witches, nice ghosts, pumpkins, spider/spider webs, etc. Cute things not the goulish stuff! I've never been able to watch the Friday 13th movies or any of those Halloween movies. I have nightmares about that stuff if I watch those!

Oh Gordman's has some of the best holiday decoration stuff all year long. Haven't been there for awhile but they were putting out Halloween stuff early part of August. I bought a bunch of summer clearance stuff, serving trays, dip tray, and stuff that had a crazy tropical theme with a plane and a parrot on it. I just gave a talk on tropical plants and I used all my stuff when everyone came over. Going to a big craft fair this weekend and they always have some cool halloween stuff.

Oh I am so jealous that you have all those trick or treaters, wish I was there to help!

Five Little Pumpkin Sitting On A Gate

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate,
The first one said,
"Oh my, it's getting late."
The second one said,
"But we don't care."
The third one said,
"I see witches in the air."
The fourth one said,
"Let's run, and run, and run."
The fifth one said,
"Get ready for some fun."
Then whoosh went the wind,
and out went the lights,
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

But there may not be equal 'like to like' so I'm good with whatever!

lol outlaw. No, although that could happen. tee hee I was working with one of my horses loading and unloading in the stock trailer. The center gate rattled and kind of spooked her, so I was tieing the center gate back with a bungee strap. Had it all wrapped up tight and was getting ready to pull the 2 hooks together when she tugged on the rope and I lost hold of the hook. It unwrapped FAST and the hook caught my middle finger and ripped it open but good! (Guess you missed the pic I posted of it. lol) Went to ER and got stitches, then to see a hand surgeon the next week because of the numbness on the wound side and tip. I needed surgery. When he got in there, 3/4" of my nerve was gone. He put in a 2.5cm long tube and inserted each end of the nerve into it, with the hopes that will help the ends grow to each other and together to get my feeling back. He said this is a new procedure within the last year and has had great success. The tube will eventually be absorbed by my body. Was in a cast for 12 days and got it off yesterday. He did have to make and incision above and below the initial wound during surgery, but all things considered, it looks pretty good. I won't be doing any hand modeling, unless it is for a surgery article. lol

Ouch! Bungees always scare me. For some reason I'm always convinced one will take my eye out. I remember reading about the numbness but i must have missed the pictures. Lol

ok on a whole other subject I'd like to file a complaint about these banner ads. Lately with a few specific ads the link height is longer than the ad itself and i can'tedit the top post or click skip to new without clicking the link! Ugh. I finally refreshed enough times i got a different ad and was able to edit. Ugh. Maybe it's just my phone though, but how frustrating. I feel like paid subscriptions should eliminate ads. Maybe I'm just out of touch with making money, hence I'm broke. L

I know... they are irritating to me too. The cockroaches running around the screen was kinda cute, for a while ... but these are beginning to get not annoying but maddening. I agree with what you said. We need to tell Admin. about it. Banner ads, fine, but don't make them enlarge! Even though there is a little 'close' box in the lower right corner or the ad, I DON"T WANT TO HAVE TO MESS WITH IT! Can I hear an AMEN!?! :-)

You can turn off the ads. Go to the home page and click on my info, scroll down on the left and click on manage my preferences. Then click on Ads, on the left side. Then click on unclick the boxes. No more ads!

The witching hour is nearly upon us! Just want to remind all swappers that it's a good idea to get shipping confirmation on all packages, and take photos before you mail. This way just in case anything happens with cameras or our disgruntled postal workers we'll still be able to see your items. You can insure packages if you like, but it's not required. If you do put confirmation on your package please d-mail it to me privately so that privacy (& top secrecy!) is protected.
As soon as i give out partners I'll begin a new thread where we can post our treats!
If you haven't specified your tastes then do so soon so your partner can get a feel for what you'd like or dislike. Especially if there are allergies or sensitivities. I think most of us have ideas so far but throw us some hints so we can have a fun swap, and get to know each other better!
Hmmm anything I'm forgetting here? Lol stacked wood after an 8 hour day at work i kinda feel like a zombie! & i look like one too! Here's a 'zombie booth' photo from my Droid app. Lol

I don't like gorey either. Spooky, and scarey are good but gorey is gross if that makes sense...lol
