I love salads! Wish I could grow veggies here without the woodland critters eating them. My Dad saw a groundhog nibbling my ornamental peppers, even...but they're so cute! I'll plant extra for him next year, lol.
Yeah, but why should they abstain when all the other woodland critters are doing the same thing? It's a constant battle, and it's really taking the fun out of gardening. I might just stick to houseplants.
that's what I'm looking for now...a distressed white shabby chic rocking chair. Having a hard time finding one. I gotta start going around to garage sales and see if I can find one that I like that I can paint.
like that will ever happen. I always over pack when I travel and so does my sister Cindy. It's because we never know what we will want to wear and need both play clothes and dressy clothes in case we go to a nice restaurant or something.
Dems I got your email this morning. I sent you a reply.
like we are...did send a e-mail went to the wrong person again::::sent it this morning to you...still thinking about that puppy...funny they are telling me they have other people that want her...said they want me to have her...yeah right they don't even know me!!!
Guess we were all busy yesterday! I've been tackling the task of sorting through a drawerful of papers that I've collected since '05. Stuff that should've been filed, pitched, shredded, etc. Even found a couple of old pieces of junk mail, lol. I've got the spare bed covered with organized piles, filled the shredder twice; now to file the rest. It's sooo not fun...
I think Eric and Sunny are coming over on Sunday. If so, we'll barbecue. Hopefully, they'll get here earlier in the day and leave earlier in the evening. The last few times they've been over, they don't leave until after 9:00. Last Sunday, they were here til 10:00. And Sterling gets whiny when he gets tired.
pry How is everyone going. Beautiful Spring weather here. It is officially "Spring" now. Lots of bulbs up and the brugs are getting all their new leaves and a couple are flowering. Wonderful time of the year as long as the wind doesn't start. Colleen
No Colleen, I haven't finished the quilt. I don't like the material I chose for the backing. It's too slippery & thick for me to work with, so I'm going to go buy a blue flannel for the backing...maybe a plaid or a print of some sort that combines most of the other colors in the quilt. I'll use the fuzzy material for something else, maybe a teddy bear or a little jacket. I might even use the fuzzy material to make a couple of appliques to add to the quilt, just because I like the feel and texture of it. I think making something smaller with that fabric will be easier for me to sew. I hope to get the backing sewn today and the appliques and transfers all ironed and sewn on, and then tie it with the yarn.
Kathy that's a shame about the fuzzy material. It would have been perfect and lovely and soft for a little one. A teddy bear will be good too though. Cold and windy here today. The weather's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. Colleen
Hi everyone horrible day here, windy cold a bit of rain. It's really amazing weather. You don't know what it's going to do one day to the next. Kathy, the quilt should be finished this weekend hey? Colleen
I hope to get it finished this weekend. I got the backing, the batting, and the top all pinned together, but I decided to add a blanket binding to it, so will need to go that tomorrow. And then I think I will try quilting it on the sewing machine, it was really hard trying to pull yarn thru 3 thicknesses of flannel. Then, I just need to put on the appliques and the transfers. That part will take all of 20 minutes or so...In the meantime, I have made a baby beanie, and have started on a crocheted sweater. Photo for the beanie will be sent to you in d-mail, i think jan has already seen it.
Dems, JRW, KY, and ctmorris, sent you all d-mails!
Jan, I'm sorry...I just realized I forgot to send it to you last night. You have a d-mail now!
Where is everyone???! Busy day today for you all??!
Thanks Ky. I'm really enjoying making these things for baby! The little sweater is going to be so cute when it's finished. I have the back and one side of the front finished so far. And about 1/3 of the other front piece. My eyes started to bother me, so I'm taking a break from it now.
has been such wonderful weather to work outside - mid 70 F...tomorrow we have the beginning of a warmer few days - oh well, I just move from shady place to shady place...until I get tired or my helper tires out on me..
I've had a very busy day today. Went to the fabric store to get more yarn to finish the sweater, and ended up buying a pattern and some green corduroy to make a little pair of pants to go with the sweater; went grocery shopping; did some weeding in the garden, since it finally cooled off enough to tolerate being in the backyard; grilled steaks for dinner; and then went to work on my various projects. Finally had a moment to say Hi!
Dh is funny...he saw me sitting in my wingback chair crocheting a little while ago, shook his head, and said "I thought I'd never see the day." LOL!
Well, that was short-lived...Dh wants me to watch tv with him, so I guess I'll catch you all tomorrow.
he's finally gotten used to the idea that he is going to be a grandpa, but he doesn't like it. But I think once he sees our grandson, he'll think differently, just like he did with Eric when he was born.
wonder how she's going to feel once he's in school...teacher will try to make him mind...the terror twins are now being good...the parents have put their foot down...almost a joy to be around them now...
KY - don't be afraid of joint replacements - just get a great Dr, follow the Dr instructions, and you'll do fine, when the time comes...have had 4 joint replacements and haven't regretted it a bit...I did notice that the folks who did their pre-surgery exercises did much better and got around quicker...if you need the surgery, let me know - I'll give you the whole routine !!
my poor aunt, had to have her's done two times...sad to say she is in a nursing home for a few months:(her son wants it this way:(she seems to like it there...like a apartment...she gets around good...using a cane in the morning...rest of the day,no...
ky,being you walk your hills and get lots of exercise, don't see you having that operation...saw my aunts scars hers are really long...last doctor made it look better...know Jan had a good doctor and she was happy, out watering a few days later:(
I would say it does, when my aunt was done with her p.t..he told her to walk stairs and her hill to her gazebo several times a day...don't use your knees when you pull weeds, sit on your cushion ...you know the fluffy one!
Good to know, thanks! Oh, I do have a custom made "sittin' cushion". I cut a piece off an old foam rubber sleeping pad cushion and stuck in inside a large empty cat food bag. It's perfect, and when it wears out, there's always another one...we have six cats!
Hi everyone. I had my knee operated on for a torn cartilidge [twice] and it's never been any good. I had to leave work because I couldn't do the walking and kneeling that was needed. I reckon I should have sued the Dr [ quack] but work cover said they wouldn't go there. It's 8 years since the first op and I still can't kneel on it. Makes it hard when something has rolled under a cupboard or bed. I have to lay down and then you should see me trying to get back up. lol Colleen
grrrrr...!!!!! I need a break!!!! I'm getting frustrated with this little baby sweater...had it almost all stitched together when I realized I stitched the one sleeve to the back instead of stitching the front and back together. Took me longer to take it apart than it did to hand stitch it, because I didn't want to ruin any of the crochet stitching and have to redo it.
Yeah, I decided to stop working on the sweater until the weekend. I'll get it finished Saturday for sure. I gotta call my mom and ask her why the thread keeps breaking and/or unthreading on her sewing machine. I want to get the quilt done too. I have the blanket binding and appliques all pinned on, so it just needs to be sewn.
Jan's here - at 4 a.m. - I went to bed early, Mike is camping, so it is me and the dog holding down the fort...sorry I took a couple of days off - have been working in the yard and making progress - thank goodness for my helper who is doing all the heavy work.
Loretta - you just won't let me live down that picture, will you...lol
Yes, I had an EXCELLENT Dr - have scars, but they are fading quickly and I really don't care - I just consider them the the medals of a working gal
Hi all. That's appropriate. I'm about to have my bathroom renovated. The bath taken out and just a shower alcove put in. Trying to find tiles that aren't brown, black or slate gray. I don't want one of these TV show's renovations. I want nice and cosy to go with the rest of the house. Colleen
We are going with some chocolate tones, look up chocolate boudior, bathroom, vogue necessary rooms, la toilette. or Small Bathrooms painted Brown at yahoo images, it was amazing we have quite tall ceiling in there and there is enough white (shower, ceiling, tile, sink/counter,and mirrored tiles that the dark walls won't bee too dark. I think I am going for the dark mahogany cherry color over the back of the shower. Our theme is victorian women with hats, and we are tring to keep a slight pinky tone in the browns since there is a burgandy stripe at the backsplash of our sink and the pics have rosy tones as well..Lust looking to get a really cool plant to add and a little new molding for around our towel cabinents.I will have to post a pic and then show the colors I am most sure we're gonna use :O)
Buffy I can't use a dark colour in my b/room as it is only tiny. I don't want white as that is what is there now. I want a change. I would have loved to have cream with flowers here and there but the tiles are only small and they are sooooo expensive. I think that I've made my mind up to have the large tiles 400mmx400mm but they seem awfully large to me. My son is going to bring one the size and colour that I may have chosen and I'll take it from there. As always I can never get exactly what I want. Colleen
be sure to look up examples of thing you think you want in pics online, it may show that that is now what you want. I was going to put beadboard up quite tall but I looked at a few examples and decided...uh...nope
on the large tile if you turn them and have them like diamonds across a wall it's quite interesting, even if you just do the shower or so like an accent wall.
I got the paint today for ours, gonna be an vintage looking room, made lively with a few interesting plant pics and adding a pendant style chandleir at the highest part of the ceiling.
Thanks so much. I hope you enjoy my garden as much as I do. I have a SH full of bromeliads and right up the back have cacti. The succulents are closer to the house. There's Brugmansias everywhere, but most are seedlings that haven't flowered as yet. Fingers crossed they flower this season then I can sort out the ones I want to keep and pass on the others. Colleen
think it was on their tea room thread...if not Colleen can you tell us which one???you gotta see her gardens...looks like every place is loaded with plants..love that red looking vine she has...loaded with flowers...
i think it's the beginning of spring down under, their spring i believe starts when our autumn starts, which is tomorrow. That would be so strange to me...to celebrate Christmas in the summertime, but of course, if you grew up there, then it isn't strange at all.
woohoo!!! I have all of next week off of work! not going anywhere...just taking a much needed break from work! And next Wednesday is my and dh's 36th Anniversary!!! Might go somewhere for the day, and will definitely go out to dinner.
beer. My Mum used to make Ginger Beer, I think you all may call it root beer. She used to make a ginger beer plant and then do something else and bottle it up and put it down our cellar. Sometimes they would explode. what a mess. Thanks for the comments on my garden and thanks for taking the time to go and have a look. We don't take our plants inside like you do. The brugs do get a little frosted but they come back. We don't have bad frosts here very often. Colleen
Dems, I dont know what our time difference is exactly, but it's 5am here right now. I think it's about 9 hours ahead of you, but that would change I think from one side of America to the other. The same as east Aust. is half and hour ahead of us and WA is two hours behind us. Colleen
I'll tell you a funny sorry about my eldest brother who passed away last year. He found one ripe peach on his tree so he decided to have the peach with cream for his supper. He had a large cereal bowl full of cream with a few pieces of peach floating around in it. He loved cream. I don't know if I can still find that post but if I can I'll let you know which "Tea Room" it was in so you can see for yourself. Needless to say, everytime someone mentions cream I think of Brian [ Stake]. Colleen
I found the bowl of cream and peach. for you to see. Tearoom 49 November 11 2009 at 03.17am. While trying to find it I found another post that made me laugh. Jean, 77sunset had put up some cup cakes with a heap of cream icing for the tearoom. The very next post was Brian asking if he could lick the cream off. Laughing's good for the soul. Gee I miss him. Colleen
I found it had to go through the pages...did read it and sure made me hungry...was wondering if he found something in it...guess he had lots of cream with his peaches...thanks ky for showing the link now others can go read it...know you miss him,as I do my brother!!love your shade house and your other flowers...one thing to always remember are your memories of him,no one can ever take those away from you, what a fun person he was...
The boys start their end of third term holidays next week. My son is taking them camping for 3 days and then taking them back to his place til the next weekend. That will give me a lovely break and I can get some much needed work done around here. I want to get myself a new stove as well, so I might do that while they are away. Colleen
sounds like a nice break for you Colleen. I have a new cooktop and wall oven out in the shed. They've never even been out of the box. I bought them a few years ago when we were going to redo the kitchen, but then dh got sick, and now won't do the work. Luckily, we didn't buy the cabinets back then. And now, I can't afford to hire someone to do the work. And poor Eric works too much at his job to ask him to do it.
remember that arbor I was telling you about with the things on the side???holds pots guess where it's at???from Big Lots ...sitting in my half cleaned out garage:(for sure next year will have it put together..think I've had it 4 years...
you better send more picture,my little friend will be here tomorrow, she said why did'nt the mom have a girl baby, and let the dad have the boys..when she gets married she will have the girls and her husband will have the boys!!!
that's what I need to do tomorrow. got yarn and sewing scraps all over the floor in here. Oh, I will share more pics as I finish things. I think I need to redo the layout of the little pants...I'm making them out of corduroy so you have to make sure the nap is the same on both sides.
Hi everyone. Had a bit of rain here today. Not enough though. Have been taking the makeshift hot house down now that the weather has warmed up a bit. Have put all the seedlings in the shadehouse til they get big enough to pot up. Colleen
It's a bit cooler today, but doesn't really feel like it because it's cloudy and overcast. Just a bit muggy.
I'm busy here today...I have already done a couple loads of laundry, went out to Once Upon a Child to look around and get a feel for their prices, went to the fabric store and got regular thread so that I can finish the quilt edging, cleaned and vacuumed the living room, and now taking a break for a few minutes. Gotta get back to vacuuming the rest of the house soon. Eric and his family are coming over tomorrow.
was told they are painted daisies...looked those up and my leaves look more like ferns...all different colors on one plant...not mums either!!!oh well just will call them pretty...stays in nice big clumps...
yes I did a few weeks ago...even brought a piece to a few nurseries...no luck there, they kept the pieces and want to know what it is,want to sell it...one of the gals took it home and potted it up...she's asking everyone that goes on her tours,no luck...
My first day of vacation and I'm up early. Mom and brother are coming down from Reno later this morning, and will be staying the night. I need to go buy an air mattress, don't have enough beds for visitors to sleep on. Maybe I can get my mom to help me cut out the patterns and material for the baby pants, booties, and teddy bears. You know, make her earn her keep...LOL!!!
wish we would get some of that rain. I'm ready for it to be Autumn here. Today's supposed to be back into the mid-80's.
LOL,Kathy your bad...now go make her a special dessert...don't tell me what it is though!!!you know computers can make you fat...used to be a girl on chat a few years ago and would tell us what she was eating...one thing I learned from her was putting peanutbutter and jelly on pancakes...yummmeee
ohh yeah those shoe's we had to wear them cause we thought we were cute...hey Colleen will be there with shovel in hand to get your red flowering tree, plus a few of your other beautiful plants...got another bucket full of weeds:((nice out today and sun is out...better go cut my grass, sure did grow since the weekend!!!
Hey Colleen you did'nt turn the lights on!!!passed up your house rug is ready to fly,my broom is faster though,be sure to turn the lights onyou got fudge???need that for fuel!!did you get your new stove???had to get a new washing machine, service guy said would cost over 200 for a agitator, was only made to last 6 months...whatta a rip off:(should be here soon to deliver, they better be careful and not scratch my door...
Sorry the boys must have turned it off. I got some fudge ready for you. Just have to make sure that the boys don't eat it all. I have the fairy lights on in the shadehouse too. Maybe you can land on top of it. I'll put the ladder ready. Watch out for the thunder storms that are hanging around, Not much rain so you should get wet though. Just a lot of noise. Colleen
got there and ate the fudge, but forgot to pull the weeds...ky we used to have a place here called Stroh's...made beer, plus ice cream...death by chocolate was one...think Breyers(sp) makes it now...what brand is yours???
we have those orange things too:(been raining here the last few day's...sooo nothing getting done...ohhh yeah Stroh's had a brewery in Detroit...plus a place called strohhouse all the free beer you could drink...don't like beer but you could buy other drinks, plus lots of free snacks...miss going there...we used to get a group and get a party bus...going to go check on line to see if my Kroger's sells it...they used to have one called moose something, almost reminded me of bbc...
phobias. Sorry everyone but I have a terrible phobia to bridges. I don't think it is the bridge as per say but the height and nothing under them. The whole thing just seems to open up and envelop me as soon as I hit the join from road to bridge. Terrible feeling. Colleen
you're not the only one, Colleen. I have a terrible fear of heights, and bridges scare me more than anything because they are over the water, which also scares me to some degree. I won't swim in lakes, rivers, bays, etc. because you never know what might want to bite your toes.
Yesterday was our 36th wedding anniversary...spent the day with dh. Tuesday went to Alameda with my mom and brother.
Congrats, Kathy, I hope you had a great time.
Swimming in the ocean in Hawaii was fun; of course the water was so clear, you could see all the way to the bottom--no toe biters, lol. We used to go to a beach surrounded by a reef, so the scary critters couldn't get in. I'm not a big fan of swimming with sharks!
sounds like you had a good time...send us a pic.of your ring...gonnna go and look at your photos...liked the rocking chair...good price too!!!don't like going over bridges with water under them...we have lots of those here in Michigan!!ky you having rain???we are...
Hi everyone. There must be wild weather everywhere. When the boys were setting up their camp yesterday a hail storm and thunder and rain went through, The boys got soaked but then they built a fire and changed and they were fine. They've already rang me this morning [ just to see if I'm still here, I think] They had a good night and now the others are turning up so there will be other kids to play with. Dems I will let you sit down for a while and have a cuppa while you're pulling the weeds. lol Colleen
glad the boys are having a good time, now they are'nt there to eat my fudge...my cuppa has to be hot chocolate, don't drink coffee...plus how about some yummy desserts???I always start my diets on Mondays...lots of Mondays!
seems to be a dying art! you all are too funny...!
Got the baby quilt all hand tied, tried sewing the binding on today and it kept bunching up. I need to get a "walking foot" for my sewing machine. It's a special foot that has teeth on the bottom just like the feed dog on the sewing machine, so that the top of the fabric and the bottom of the fabric are fed thru evenly, which prevents it from bunching up.
yeah see they want me to pull weeds,so need my energy...now you know ky hides her cookies in the drawer...haha I found them..found Colleens hiding places too!!!fudge ALL gone...looks like you need a new machine, you'll have that one wore out soon...does her mom sew for the baby too???better make her little boy something he might get jealous!!!
LOL, Buffy, that reminds me of a tone-deaf ex-boyfriend who thought he could sing. He would let out this horrid caterwauling, with the utmost passion, tears streaming from his eyes, and I would beg him to stop. He didn't understand that he was tone-deaf until one day I told him that if he didn't shut up, I was going to stop the car on the highway and make him get out.
I guess he didn't believe me...
thanks Ky! It's by no means perfect, but I'm happy with the way it turned out. I will probably be doing more quilts in the future, but might need to take a quilting class first. I was given boxes and boxes of fabric today from a lady friend who can no longer see well enough to sew. Some of the fabrics are vintage, so it should be fun going thru them all, and deciding which ones to use. She asked that I donate whatever I don't want to keep or use, to the Roseville Quilters Club, where she used to be a member.
Hi everyone. Have had a great weekend. The boys were so dirty when they came home from their camping trip. They saw snakes, lizards and wombats so were tickled pink and couldn't stop talking. Into the shower and nice clean clothes and a feed and all was good. We have rain today, but not too cold. Colleen
Oh yes, they sure love to eat. Nothing for them to have 4 Weetbix for breakfast. The older one loves his meat, where-as the younger one is more into salads and crackers. They are so different sometimes. Ones a lively run around climbing sort and the other loves to colour in and draw. Love them both to bits. Colleen
we got some rain yesterday and today...a few good downpours. It was coming down so hard on my way home from work I could barely see. got some snow up in the mountains too. I'm going to start new word association threads right now.
