| Here, in South Florida, there is no really obvious change between the seasons. The summer's sweltering heat will fade away, leaving quite liveable temperatures behind. Torrential rains will gradually abate and we'll have to start thinking about watering again. It is always a great relief not to see the leaves change color and fall, leaving the trees bare. Things grow year-round and only need to be protected from an occasional cool night. While my zone 5 friends are busy preparing their gardens for winter, I have to go weed again. It's a pain to weed year-round, but I love it here just the same.
Take care, all.

| Around here, it means all of the above, except the one about living in the southern hemisphere):
Colorful leaves, pumpkins and mums at my house? Check!
Football games and tailgating here? Check and check!
Autumn veggies! What is your favorite? Squash and pumpkins.
Time for garden clean-up at my house? Yes, although this is my least favorite-aspect of fall.
Soup, hot chocolate and comfort foods are popular here? You betcha!
Time for celebrating the end of mosquito season? I hope! We're still slap-happy here, but hopefully some cooler weather will knock them back a bit. |

| I LOVE the look and smell of fall! I make sure to take 2 weeks off in the fall to enjoy it. Mid October I'll be off for 2 weeks! LOVE it! Time to put the Carnivorous plants to bed (the fridge!) and rake leaves and clean up the gardens. It's fun to me and relaxing. Therapy! |

| There are not enough trees here to enjoy the color change but we have the most glorious sunsets. It is becoming cool enough to enjoy sitting out and watching the sky change colors. I also have only been gardening in this high desert area a short time and still need adjustments to my gardening techniques. Fall is the time I sit in the garden in the evenings and plan what I can do differently next year and what actually worked so I can duplicate it. Hot coffee, lawn chair, notebook and sunsets along with warm, not blistering hot days and cool, crisp evenings make this my favorite season here. |

| Besides all of the above; accept the So. Hemi; it's also a great time of year for star gazing @ those crisp clear night skies without staying up too late & while sipping the hot chocolate. No mosquitos to worry about either. |

| Fall means the end of daily 100+ temps; the tomatoes and peppers start to produce again and lettuce and peas can be started soon, along with other cool weather crops. The roses start to bloom again and flowers can be planted for fall color without worrying about them dying in the heat. |

| Nutsaboutnature, you sure chose an appropriate name! It's my favorite season, too, and I am really looking forward to a colorful fall this year. Last year, we had a drought, so all the leaves just turned brown. I love to rake huge piles of leaves!
And, yeah, I'm cleaning up the gardens, too...in fact, I need to get off the computer and get busy outside! |

| I'm with nuts & Debra! Fall is about cool weather, cleaning up the garden, having time to work on garden projects now that the garden planting, harvest, seeding & weeding is behind us. Time to plant bulbs and have all winter to imagine the glorious bloom to come. Oh so much beauty in the fall season as well.

I will say I can't watch football without cringing because I am a KC Chiefs fan and boy do they suck this year. lol. Instead I will console myself with hockey when November comes around and the season starts.

| Fall also means planting spring flowering bulbs.
September is daffodil planting, and October is tulip planting time.
And other bulbs too!
It is also seeding time for seeds which require cold before germination. |

| The silver lining to the horrendous drought is that the ragweed is sparse this autumn. With nighttime temperatures below 80°, it means we can shut of the air cond. for the 1st time in 5 months, and open windows for comfortable, peaceful sleep!

| Here in the maritime NW our weather is never extreme. We rarely have temperatures below 20 in the winter and little snowfall, or over 90 in the summer (84 was our highest temp this year). Contrary to popular belief it doesn't rain all the time (less than 2 inches this summer). Fall means garden clean up and harvesting squash, pumpkins, potatoes and the last of the tomatoes. It means planting garlic, setting out mums, lettuce and other fall crops and prepping vegetable beds for next spring. Fall is for hot soup, made from late season garden goodies, and fresh baked bread in front of a warm fire. It is for an adding up of the garden successes of the year and for reflecting on how to improve on the failures. Above all, it is a time to slow down, count your blessings and spend time with family and friends. |

| I voted for garden clean up, but that really means doing something with mountains of leaves. Every year, our house "wins" and has the most leaves on the block. I just laugh when people suggest composting it. Yeah, maybe if we only had one monster oak instead of six. =) At least the city does come around once or twice and vacuum up the piles.
