It truly is a fun swap, thanks putting it together Bev.
OK, now that we have fixed the accidently cut water pipe (did I mention I got very WET while we were trying to find the emergency shut off and were without ANY water in the house until my husband could get it FIXED?? LOL), and the renter has arrived to occupy the studio that is NOT complete, I can post!!
Bev, my favorite fabric was the oversized piece with the BIG skeltons! Sooooo cute! all the charms were perfect but was my favorite of the charms you sent. THANKS!
Elaine, the skeltons & witches in bright boxes, how funny!!! and thank you so much for the tractors, that gorgeous orangish/rust color leaf with gold accent. THANKS!
Karen sent me this adorable TRACTOR print, chickens, and a FQ of a rich bird print.
Truly, I got an amazing collection of charms that I can't wait to start using!
ROFLOL, Betty you aren't the only one guilty of that!!! I am much worse since I have moved from Gainesville as my friend isn't around to "encourage" me not to start another project before I finish one already in progress. Think I will need to have her come stay a week with me to motivate me.
Barb, I love the charms you have pictured. The colors look so rich.
We're fine and the renter is very nice. For now we are just having him eat with us etc until we have his space finished. He is a very nice man and willing worker. I expect we will get along great. He likely will help me paint his studio this weekend!! I've taking a chain saw to 3 bushes to provide parking for him after work tonight (I hope).
How's everyone doing with their blocks? I have sent all mine out so everyone should have gotten them long ago. I'm missing sets from 4 people. I received Mittsy and Elaine, photos to follow, as soon as I snap them.
CONGRATS Marion!!! That's fantastic and the most wonderful news so far today. Hope your friends arrive safely Bev.
My family got hung up in Chicago last night so I don't know when they will get here... I'm just trying so hard to be patient...
LOL, not just yet, I haven't completely wrapped my head around this as it is such a surprise after 6 years hoping to hear there would be another little one. Honestly, my brain is whirling and needless to say I am thrilled beyond belief!!! Just saying prayers my DIL has a healthy, trouble free pregnancy and the baby is healthy.
Praying right along with you..let's see now, when is she due?? Got to figure out the 2012 reunion datue and don't want you Tobermory missing? Did you hear when the wedding is being held here in Ontario?
Thunder the pattern photo doesn't do them justice, not the nicest of angels but it reflects the primitive aspect of the quilt..bought embroidery thread for the hair..with cooking Thanksgiving dinner today not sure how much sewing I'll get done, was hope'ing to have the applique done so I can at least sit while the turkey is cooking and do the embellishments of each..just finished the 9 leaf applique..I'm hoping to have most of the cut outs to send your way..that's the easy part of the quilt..lol
Thanks everyone. Astrid, no I didn't make baby quilts for the 2 girls. My MIL always crocheted a blanket for each new grandchild and for some reason, in later years, she gave me the one she had used to do my son's blanket. So when the first grandchild was on it's way, I kept the tradition by crocheting an afghan with the same hook used for her Dad. Same for the second one and will do yet again for #3. I was living in Gainesville at the time and my 2 best friends made quilts for the girls. I am working on some for them now that they are older.
Thank you Thunder, weather couldn't have been better and always heartwarming having my family surround me..even though they do pick on me in the most loving of ways..you know boys...lol. I'd say it was beyond perfect.
Even got the ponds winterized and garden art put away..now I can sit and wait for the snow to come without fretting!
Beautiful Elaine, look at those little ones..how proud you must be!
they grow up so fast one has to make every effort to spent as much time with them as you can! lorry seems like yesterday I was at Kyle's christening and here mid December he'll be 16 driving a car and visiting with me...they sure do bring joy
Beautiful Elaine!!! Great looking grandparents too I might add. It doesn't seem possible my oldest GD will be 9 in December but alas time does fly.
I am ashamed to say but my camera has been missing for awhile...found it yesterday when I was cleaning out some boxes of things to send away. Good thing I decided to look in the box again. Have it charging so I should be able to post pictures also.
This message is from ElaineAnn. She has received squares from Mittsy and the little gift also. She also said that she will get your two Christmas blocks off to you pronto. She says Thank You and that she will post as soon as possible. Her computer is down and she has no idea what's wrong. It is going to the doctor tomorrow.
Yesterday was supposed to be the only nice day all week, but the rain started early and continued most of the day. I did quite a bit of sewing and embroidering so I'm getting caught up on requests, until I gain access to more of my patterns. Difficult having your "stuff" in two places that are far apart. I know i have 3 cat designs in CB. Just purchased a new vintage kitty, and appliqued calico cat with a cute bow around its neck. I also bought the companion gingham dog. I'm going to make a set of 12 combining them (The dogs and cats) using the mirror image. They should look really cute in a toddler scrap quilt . I use white tone on tone scraps for the background, any size pieces or patterns just to give me a foundation. Thanks, Barb for the gingham fabric.
Our weather is getting cooler, each day. I'm watching for flakes and praying I don't get a respiratory germ drop on by. Mom had her flu shot yesterday and had a small growth frozen off her forehead. Then they stopped for groceries., she came home put her stuff away and took a long nap.
Long naps are wonderful during this transition time of year. It will rejuvenate me faster that anything else. I have a box full of squares to go to the post office. I hope to get there today or tomorrow at the latest. I'm sorry I haven't gotten there sooner but I'll still get them out in time. Rain is due here soon too so I best get going!!!!
Rain is due here this afternoon and it will be much welcomed!! Not only the rain but cooler weather--down in the 40's at night--love it! Getting off of the computer and making a fast trip to the store before they start as they are saying it will be heavy storms. Oh well, that will keep me inside and I can finish cutting all my swap items.
Well, I am fully moved and as unpacked as I'm gonna get, Got home again late last night and I think no more trips downstate until at least Thanksgiving, The "new" embroidery machine is set up and ready to play. Looks like I am good to go...starting tomorrow, after unpacking and doing laundry, siiiiigh.
I"M back ^_^ got a new monitor !!!! charms are all on their way !!
Mittsy, I received an envelope ^_^ thank you, my DIL and GD are here, for a few days, then going further south to the "grammies" house for a few days, then back here for a few more days!!! I will be sewing after they leave. Soldier boy says he will not be "out of country" for new years !!!! that means he will be in the USA !!! HIP HIP HOOORAY !!!!!!!
I can not express how happy I am right now ^_^ !!!!
Betty, I don't have a new machine I bought a Brother SE350 second hand on Craigs List. The very nice person I bought from not only delivered but sat for several hours showing me and helping me with how to download patterns. She also said I can call on her any time. It included PED Basic. Not real fancy but very adequate for my purposes.
Thunder that is great news! Glad to hear that. Maybe we can meet up briefly on Friday because our friends from Scotland want to see my father-n-laws mural that he had painted on his wall. Otherwise we won't be back that way until November, unless it changes again. I am now on a mission for browns, tans and off whites, because they'd like me to make them a nine patch and of course, I have no dull colors, lol...
Thunder, that's wonderful news..can understand why you are flying high!!! Give that little one a hug and bet you are teaching her to sew before she leaves.
Sounds like a nice machine..Every time I look at new ones I think because of the $$$ I'd be throwing good money away..my Janome 9000 does everything I need and if I would take the time to learn the scanner which designs I would be happy/happy..I should advertise to see if I can find someone who uses it so I can take lessons..maybe you can teach old dog new tricks
Hey gang, I'm B-a-c-k...Cost me $250 to get it fixed...had 15 viruses in it too...that cost $150 to fix.YIKES. I just got on the computer to pay bills and now I can't find my Family Budget file...UGH!!!!
But at least I can get online. I see that Barb told you Mittsy that I was thrilled to get the embroidered charms...they are gorgeous and so is the bonus...
I will be putting together some christmas blocks for you real soon...
I think I found my pictures I took of all the charms I received. Gonna try to get them posted if the computer will let me!!!!
Nope, I guess not...everytime I hit browse and find a pic and hit send...the file disappears...
Karen, Your embroidery machine will give you hours of enjoyment. You'll be addicted before very long. Let me know if you want to try applique, I have tweaked a few to have them fit my sister's Brother embroidery machine. Maximum size is 4" x 4".
Bev, yes she reminds me of Melyssa !! beautiful hair, and beautiful eyes, lots of red hair in both families.. I am working Fri either 12 - 9, or 1 - 10...not sure which??? got to check with the boss...on line schedule says one thing from home, another thing at work ???
I got mail, take a look at my pretties! Thank you so much Thunder, and the good news is you'll be getting your envelope back soon, check out the What are you working on thread to see the trio of lavender butterflies. I think they may work for your granddaughter.
We FINALLY got home from the hospital. The surgery was more involved that then the orthopedic thought it would be and recovery will be MUCH longer. I'm terrified to leave Ben home tomorrow but he doesn't think he "needs" anyone here and I have be at work tomorrow. Worse, I'm on call for the next 3 days. Today would not be a good day to rate my satisfaction with my job.
The surgeon did a "revision" on the stump. They took "only skin" and other tissue, no bone but the stump was a mess of excess, this should make fit and stability much better for him.
I'll be praying for a short recovering and brighter future. My advice is to take one day at a time and on the bad days, just 15 minutes if that is all you can handle. Here's a visual for you and yours, .Picture yourselves in the center of a group hug with all of us holding hands and encircling you both. I have had some really bad days this summer and it helps to get me through them.
Pat what kind of surgery did he get done? Is Ben your husband? I'm new, lol. Hope he feels better today. I'm sure if you tell your boss that you need to keep your cell handy in case he needs you they would understand. Tell Ben to call if he needs anything, then you'd feel better about leaving him.
Keeping both of you in my prayers too Pat. This has not been an easy journey for either of you. How is the other knee holding up since that surgery? Sending wishes for as speedy a recovery as possible. I also concur with Bev's suggestion regarding your cell phone. At least it will give him a sense of you being close.
Okay, so I didn't make it to the post office yesterday--leaving to go within the next few minutes. Ladies, if there are some "odd" things included with your charms, it is just me clearing out pieces that aren't my normal types of fabric. Just hope I included something each of you can work with and enjoy.
Pat, sending my wishes with all the others for a speedy recovery. Agree with Mittsy regarding one day at a time and the 15 minutes on bad days. Always sending hugs to you both.
Mittsy, I so understand about your summer. Seems like there is much progress being made only the next day to have a huge set back. Sending a hug and prayers.
Marion while sitting in the office waiting room waiting for my DH to receive his pain shot, I started talking to another patient. He had been through everything that we are dealing with and suggested some reading material that his wife found on the internet. It's a book by Colvin about the addiction to pain medications. I started telling him about DH's personality change and he said he'd put his wife through the very same thing. He credits this doctor with saving him, I told him it's too bad there's not a support group for families going through this and that's when he suggested I try and get the book. I felt so much better after talking to him, he gave me hope that things can get better.
Interesting information Mittsy. Some information I wish I had had 8 yr. ago. Dealing with much the same with Mom now. We have been able to get the amount of morphine they were giving to her cut way back and other meds (limited Tylenol actually) given for pains. It seem to be working. Of course there is not much we can do with the pains associated with her age and unfortunately from the handling she receives from the CNAs. That is entirely another story.
Let me know more about the book please. Always thinking of you!.
Many of the people I treated when I was doing drug & alchol work were hooked on prescription medication. The simple truth is that IF you take them long enough, you WILL become dependent. I'll more about it when I'm off work tonight.
Marion, would you consider accepting this embroidery piece as a swap for two of the gift blocks? It took all day to embroider, piece is about 6 1/2 " square but I left extra fabric so it could be used as a centerpiece. Cardinals with Magnolias.
This is another from the same series, I'm not thrilled with it as the colors are all wrong. My son in KY has bluebirds at his bird feeders and they do not look like this. I was given the kit ($39.99), came with a 3 1/2" floppy with the stitch outs and precut applique pieces, look like they were cut from iron on patches material. Directions were not good, and only a line drawing of finished work, no large color picture.
I have the unit (if what it is you are speaking of) from Walmart that you can dip your hands or your feet..nothing feels any better than that..certainly helps my hands..reminder to self, 'plug it in when you get home' lol
when you dip your hands you do it 2 or 3 times, each time you dip it in it feels hotter, hotter the better then hand in plastic bag, I put oven mitts on to keep the warmth longer..when finished the wax slips off like a glove, put it back into the unit and it melts back into liquid...if someone is there to put the plastic bag and mitts on, it's wonderful to sit back and have two hand toasty as can be..
My sister delivered some thread to me yesterday. Sorry it was already unwrapped. i just love the way they package it from Bombay, India.
Shipping is free, so it averages out at less than 50 cents a spool.
Hey Mittsy, don't suppose your sister would like to deliver me some thread or at the least let me pay her to buy me thread. At 50 cents a spool it is a steal! Don't suppose they have a website? Awesome colors by the way. Very nice.
Mittsy, I would love that block in exchange for all 4 squares. It is beautiful and I do have magnolias in my yard with plenty of cardinals.
A friend of mine in Gainesville was told to buy one of the wax units for her hands and she says she can't work with out it. She does lots of crafts and really bad arthritis in both hands. I, too, have had the wax treatment as a special treat when I had a pedicure a while back. Oh so relaxing and soothing!!!
Mittsy, lesson learned..
When not in use do not put the plastic bags and mitts laying on the hardened wax with lid on...took mine out, plugged it in,,ooh oooh what a mess!! Know you are all smarter than that but thought id mention it...reason I'm now using oven mitts along with replacement bags..
Wax last for quite some time..might be something you want to put on Santa"s Xmas list!
I have received charms from Thunder and Barb. Thank you both they will go well with the project I am working on.
Mittsy love the cardinals and the blue birds also.
I will be going to walmart to look for the wax gadget. Right now only one hand hurting but will try anything.
All the Christmas charmes received so far are already in a quilt top..run to mailbox everyday..for the rest.
Photo is taken..but wait untill I have the top finished...but omg it looks amazing.
the other charmes..not sure what I'm going to do with them..but the Christmas ones..I do it all by machine(even the quilting part)..so it will be "done" before Christmas.
