we got some rain yesterday and today...a few good downpours. It was coming down so hard on my way home from work I could barely see. got some snow up in the mountains too. I'm going to start new word association threads right now.
Good afternoon all. There's plenty to share and the fudge is safe. I hid it in the linen cupboard. All of my siblings are interested in some sort of plants. Two older brothers Cacti and Natives, Younger brother Orchids and Bromeliads and us three girls anything that is pretty. I'm the only one that has gone mad. lol I've just planted Bromeliad seeds, OMG can you imagine the seedlings that I will have if they germinate. Certainly keeps me out of trouble. Colleen
Good morning all. Kathy I am growing mine in plastic containers with tight fitting lids in the coir-peat block that you soak in water and it re-hydrates, put in plastic container to about one third and put the lid on and put in microwave for 3 minutes on high, let cool and then plant your seeds, give a little spray with water, put lid on securely and put out of direct sunlight but in a bright place and leave. This is what I was told to do so we'll see if I get any up. Colleen
Yes Dems I have a huge SH right down the Eastern side of my house. Not too much room in there and certainly not for seedlings. All my big Broms are in there and they have lots of pups that will have to be removed and potted as well. I will sell orswap most of my pups when they're ready though. Colleen
It was hot today--I brought in all my houseplants last week, now I wish I hadn't, as it's been warm all week. But next week it's supposed to be cool again.
Did I tell you all that I got a part time job in a boarding kennel? I started last week. I love animals, so I'm happy. I'm a professional pooper-scooper, and doggie and kitty cuddler!
I know how you feel Ky. I have a hard time waking up at 5:30-6:00 am when it's still dark out. And leaving for work at 7 am and it's still dark out. It seems to have happened almost overnight this year!
I figure I blew my only chance to win the lottery. One night as a teen, I dreamed that a man was writing these numbers on a chalkboard, and he was writing slowly and making them about a foot tall, so it looked like they were very important numbers. I figured I should play them in the lottery, but I couldn't remember them all. I bought a ticket and strained to remember them as best I could. Three numbers were a hit, and the other three were only a few digits off.
It was either a nasty joke by the devil, or God was trying to help me out, but I blew it. LOL
That's why I only plant daffodils, Buffy, I read that critters don't like them. They might dig them up to see what it is, though, I don't know. Maybe they just didn't find the few I planted a couple years ago. I love this place, but one of these days I'd love to live someplace where I can't plant what I like, not just critter-resistant plants. *sigh*
had a fence replaced and had to get plants out of the way, just replanted some plants...still gotta go and steal a few of your plants Colleen..you better take good care of them till I get there,..you know my favorite big red tree?bush?
My boys have watched Harry Potter for most of the holidays. The little one is enthralled by him. They would watch for a while then next thing I would hear them running around outside with straws or sticks as wands and yelling spells at each other, then back inside to get something to eat and a drink and watch a bit more. Colleen
I'm doggie/house sitting now until next Thurs. evening, so I'm happy. I get to watch satellite tv! I'll be working 3 or 4 shifts (only 3-4 hours each) at the kennel, too, and it's only ten minutes from here, so I'm saving gas $ this week! And I get infinite doggie kisses and kitty cuddles.
Hi everyone. bit breezy here today but not too cool. The boys last day of holidays. They just had pancakes as a snack for afternoon tea now they're outside playing again. Bellies are full and happy little boys. Colleen
yeah, I am. I probably would've finished them today, but I couldn't find the snap tape. Found it, once I stopped looking for it!!! Just happened to notice a Joann Fabrics bag that was under my desk...The snap tape was in the bottom of it, along with some yarn and a few other things that I thought I had put away. LOL!!! Now I'm too tired to sew anymore this evening.
Yep she sure would. Did I tell you all that I'm going to be a Great Gran. April May next year. It doesn't make me feel old but I think that my son is having second thoughts about being a Grand-pa. Colleen
raining here again, and in the low 40's:(went to help a friend take his plants inside...had him take a few of mine to over winter...has a nice setup with misters and lots of lights...lots of shelving...,makes for a nice winter home...you have yours all in ky???
well, if it's a girl...I would be absolutely thrilled!!! I was kind of disappointed when my son was born and the doctor said "it's a boy!", because I really wanted a girl. But after seeing him, that all changed in an instant! Whether grandbaby is a boy or a girl, doesn't much matter to me. And like Ky said, a girl could wear most of what I've made so far since everything has been pretty much neutral, except for the quilt.
And Colleen...Congrats on becoming a first time great grandma! My parents are both thrilled to be first time great grans also! My dh is like your son...not really ready to be called grandpa (even though he is 62)! Sterling calls him Papa, and dh seems okay with that.
And here I am, going on 55, feeling left out because I've got nobody to call me Grandma! lol I waited until I was 32 to have my son, though, so he just turned 22 this May and has his first steady girlfriend. I'm sure not going to rush them!
Yep, I just hope it's not a long-distance spoiling, like it has been for his grandma.
Oh, in answer to your question, yes, I took all my houseplants back indoors at the first hint of cold a couple of weeks ago. Even though we've had plenty of warm days in between, I refuse to do the in-and-out, in-and-out thing that I've done in the spring. LOL
Congratulations Evelyn. The best kind of baby that you can hand back. lol. I know the boys will be rapt to see Angel's little one when he/she gets here. I saw Angel born but I don't suppose I'll get the privelege with this one. Colleen
Hi Dems. You wouldn't know what season it is here at the moment. 36C one morning and heater on in the afternoon. It's quite nippy this morning too and all overcast, so more rain on the way by the looks. I'm not complaining about the rain though we need it. Just that I can't get outside in the garden. lol Colleen
had more delivered today...made a promise to myself will not look at any more sites this winter!!!and pass on the e-mail offers...small yard and waaayyy to much stuff!!!nice day here, hit 60...sun was out too!
I can't imagine the cold you people get with the snow and frosts. We do get frosts here but so few that we soon forget them. Some of the plants get nipped but usually make a storming comeback. Even the Brugmansias just laugh and start sprouting new leaves almost immediately. Colleen
ours would be dead...last year we had so much snow was hard to pile it up ...I'm about 5"3 and some were taller than me:(plus once we get our driveways done, the city comes with the snowplows and blocks us all in...more work:(
You might be thinking of southern CA or the Sacramento valley. We live in the Sierra foothills at about 3500' in elevation. Snow every year since I lived here for 25 years now. Lake Tahoe gets way more snow, of course.
We have an old 'coo-coo' (cuckoo? I really don't know how you'd spell it, lol!) clock that was given to my parents a long time ago. I've always wondered if it was worth anything. Maybe Antiques Road Show will come to town. :)
is how I feel sometimes. I've always been a night owl, and have a hard time getting up at 6 am. Thanks Evelyn I am feeling better.
Yes, it was a nice day here today...I prefer the autumn weather, I don't much like the winter cold, but I hate the summer heat even more.
Yes. I'm a bookkeeper for a Commercial Property Mgmt and Construction Company, in South Sacramento. About 15 miles from home. My hours are 8-5 M-F. Takes me about 30-45 minutes to get to work. So I have to leave by 7:15 to get there on time.
party...I just looked it up and see that it refers to folk-music party. I remember my mom using that term (hootenanny) when she couldn't remember what something was called, along with thingamajig or whatchamacallit. I'm not all that young...born in '59.
I like to say that the owls in our woods have hootenannies. lol
I have to get up at 6am when I have the morning shift. Today I'm working a double--worked 7:30 to 10:30 this morning, and have to go back in from 2-6pm. I do take a nap in between!
one year someone dropped off some kittens...funny the Marines each took one home...at their club they do put up a sign now...NO ANIMALS...lots of folks ask what the sign means>>>you just have to read it and it explains..what it means...
Happy Halloween, everyone! I'm at my sister's place, and oh, wow, there are a bazillion kids here--I went through $18 worth of candy in only 30 minutes...I guess I should've taken out a loan and bought more!
they started here at 4...was only supposed to be allowed till 8...waited to turn off lights at 8:30...bet I had over 300 kids...spent about $65.00...my daughter had almost 700,niece about the same amount...plus both really decorate...
Happy Halloween!!! I didn't give out candy this year.
As for holiday gifts, I usually ask what the person would like, that they wouldn't go out and buy for themselves. I also make candy and cookies to give as gifts.
I've been thinking about crocheting scarves and hats for my nieces and nephew. I usually only get gifts for the kids, unless I host Christmas at my house, then everyone that comes gets a little something.
I can hear the choir singing. Good morning everyone. It's 4.30am. Little one woke with a nightmare so I decided to get up. I've already had my first cuppa so must be time to have another one. I love this time of the morning. Hello Helen. Nice to see you pop in. Colleen
Yes, there is a storm headed our way. Cold front from the north. It might snow down to our elevation. Yesterday I did as much as I could, but still a few plants remain unplanted. I was feeling so crummy, and today even worse. I am staying in today.
Just found out from my son earlier this evening, that their baby's birth is scheduled for December 21st (C-section), my youngest sister's birthday! Sunny had a c-section with Sterling and the doctor recommended that she have one with this one. Only 47 more days, til I'm officially a grandma!
