Also known as the Wavyleaf Thistle it is a native and one I would like to establish in my butterfly meadow. It is a host plant to the Painted Lady butterfly as well as being popular with the American Goldfinch. I have looked everywhere but can not find a source. I live in zone 5b on the NE plains of Colorado.
Also, thought I'd post a pic taken today of a male Monarch that nectared heavily on a mum I'd put out for the Orange Sulphurs since my nectar plants were hit hard by frost three days in a row. It's not a great close-up but I did not want to disturb this beautiful creature. I was surprised to see one so late in the season.
