I was at an appointment and glanced out the window at bluejay and cardinal. Once they both flew off another bird landed for a brief moment. From what I remember the bird had a gray belly, possibly black and gray speckled wings. What I found most noticeable was a bright orange spot on the back of it's neck perhaps circular in shape. The bird was larger than a sparrow but a bit smaller than the bluejay.
I've lived in a 50 mile radius most of my life and I've never seen this bird. I've tried searching through every last picture of birds in NY State but the bird I saw was not listed.
The bird was sighted in White Plains, NY. Anyone have any ideas?
