mushrooms and dead trees

rhinelander, WI(Zone 4a)

is it good to not remove all fallen trees because the fungi is good for the forest ?

rhinelander, WI(Zone 4a)

some of the mushroom growers think that they('shrooms) have a relationship to the forest. they do , wonder if
this symbiotic relationship is overstated in importance , if anyone has an opinion ?

Talihina, OK

If they are growing on a dead tree then they must be helping to break down the tissue of said tree ..I don't know this for a hard fact but it just makes sence to me

some use mycorrhizal treatments with their tree plantings

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Different fungi involved - mycorrhizal fungi are symbiotic fungi associated with the roots of living trees, while decay fungi break down dead wood, making the nutrients in the wood available for other plants. Both are essential components of forest ecosystems, without them, forests would not grow. Yes, it is good to leave dead wood in forests.
