Here we are . a milestone. 100 threads for the Tea Room...
Thank you all fro keeping it going so long.
I enjoy coming in each day and seeing who has popped in for a cuppa.

Sunny here this morning again, but quite cool as yet. It has been warming up after lunch then cool again in the evening.
I can live with this weather but rain once a week would be nice.

    I love the outhouse stories.
Chrissy , like you, I prefer a separate loo . So many seem to be in the bathroom.
It may be an English trait as I notice on all those English relocation shows, the people look surprised to see separate loos.

What about the ancient Romans with their public , many seating loos ?
Not the place I would pick to meet friends etc..

Anthony I hope all goes really well with your sale.

Teresa, glad you are getting over the bug. Poor Copper, he will adjust eventually.

Charleen, what are you going to make next. I love seeing all your projects.

Dianne and Colleen, I'm glad you decided not to try to remove my brug baby. You may have fallen in the brambles like the Tar Baby. lol..

Better get over and put up a signpost or people will be wandering all over the place.
    Have a lovely day.
    Jean.

Good morning everyone. 100 threads, that's great isn't it? We can certainly talk. Yes, good luck hope everything goes as planned for your big sale of Lilliums Anthony. That will be a wonderful Christmas Present for you. No Jean we haven't touched your baby. I think the maggies were the ones to keep us out.It was the threat of no more biscuits from you that made them do their job. Treasure was the leader there. Aurea still isn't out but by the end of the day or tomorrow I reckon. Oh I do love these brugs and the broms of course and the hippies and and and. One and a half days til school ends for the year then 7 weeks of fun. lol Have decided not to do the bathroom. 2 new rainwater tanks and new watering system right through the gardens. A pump for the tanks. I am still going to get new taps in the bathroom and a new vanity but think that the garden is more important to me anyway. Maybe I'll be able to afford the new Shadehouse as well. I went and bought my new stove yesterday, so that will be in for Christmas dinner. Oh it will be lovely to have a stove that I will be able to turn down. All the thermostats are gone on the old one. It's been a terrible stove right from the start. I also bought myself a new outfit for Christmas day. A lovely white top and tan pedal pushers. Haven't bought new clothes for soooo long thought that I deserved some. Well had better get the boys ready will be back later. Colleen

Dianne, I forget how many years the Tea Room has been going.
I remember seeing similar on the US forums so thought it may be a good idea here.
Just a cosy place to chat about anything, while we still have all the other threads on particular things.
    I'm glad everyone enjoys it.
Must be nearly time for the carpet to make an entrance again.
Maybe after Christmas when things are quiet, we may pop in to see a few friends.

Thanks Chrissy. I had forgotten when it started. It has been fun for me and for everyone popping in, I hope.
Old faces gone and new faces coming in.
Brian & Leisa will always be around looking for more cream. .
Funny that noone has been looking for the wine since Brian passed. I bet all the time it was just Leisa nipping it. I hear you laughing Leisa.

Elaine, before I forget once again, my pretty vine grown from the seeds you sent me a few years ago has been blooming its head off.
It isnt white after all but a very lovely pastel pink. I just forget the name for the minute, I know it starts with A.

Good morning everyone.. The sun is shining but is quite chilly so far.. Will be like yesterday and get very warm after lunch.
I had to turn on the dripper hose yesterday for the first time in 2 years. The cottage garden was looking very dry so I thought I had better give the plants a drink.
Most of the larger areas of garden just have to get by as best they can now. The trees have all grown very tall so the smaller plants have slowly dies out or been moved. What survives is a woodland type area with plants that can fend for themselves all year.. eg..arums, hardy geraniums, wallflowers, bulbs etc.

Hello Anthony, love your spotty lilium. Hope you are feeling much better.

Colleen, how are your hippies going ? Mine dont look like flowering this year at all. Quite a few seedling ones coming on though.

Dianne, pity about having to remove your flax , but gardens are like that arent they ? Plants grow too big for their space sometimes.

Chrissy, are you enjoying getting around in your garden once again or is it still too wet ? Be very careful there.

Hello Elaine, Karen and Teresa. Hope all is well with you all.

Hello Charleen, keep warm over there.
Louise if you happen to look in , we miss hearing all about the girls.

Better go and see what I can find for you all in the kitchen.
I will leave a plate of lovely cream cakes out.
    That should satisfy any nibblers.

Look who I saw wandering around outside the Tea Room this morning.
Probably like Charley, wanting some cookies before they fly off to help Santa.

    Have a happy day.

Good morning everyone. I think it's going to be a hot one today. Lots of buds coming again on the brugs. The yellow Aurea is nearly out. Don't they take forever when you're waiting, like watching a pot boil. OSA is about to have another flush and Avalanche is building up again.. My stove is ready to pick up. My son will pick it up Saturday morning for me. They wanted to charge me $49 to deliver it 9 miles. I could drive to Adelaide and back twice for that. I have ordered my tanks but they won't be here til the new year. Will have to see about a pump too. When I get the new watering system it will make watering so much easier for me. I will still have to water the SH by hand , and all the pots but that won't be so bad. Well last half day at school for the boys today. I will have to duck down and grab the last of my Christmas shopping this morning. My Aunty gave the boys a card each with $50 in it and she wants the boys to spend some of it on a present for me. I wonder what they'll buy for me. Must go I hope everyone is well and I'll be back later. Colleen

Yes. we want to know what the boys get you. I am looking forward to it. Colleen.
Jean, he (the deer) and Charley can share cookies.
The donkeys and Charley all get their feet done tomarrow. I hope it goes o.k. This is first time of a 2 o'clock appointment. I get nervous enough at morning trims so know this is going to be a new adventure. I'll have them tied before he gets here.
It was almost Springlike today. Now it can stay like this...Got some Lantanas cut back but still got more to cut. I can see my Walkway now...
    Hugs to all.

Good morning. Wow, 100th tea room threads. It is wonderful to see. And Jean, I think it has stayed popular because of the thoughtful TLC you give it. I wasn't here in 2008, but often wondered how long it has been going. Question, do you still have Mogwai? I love him.

Charleen, I actually wondered if you could make a windmill. Even a Dutch windmill, perhaps? They are fascinating structures, for sure. Good luck with the foot trims tomorrow. And also for removing that lantana. It takes over in a big way and is a devil to remove.

Colleen, whatever the boys get for you, I hope it comes from the heart.
Anthony, did your sale go through? Is your garden bare now?
Jean, what a splendid specimen of (?) deer. He's a beauty.
Chrissy, you must be a Scorpio. They are great at researching and tracking things down.
Colleen, you won't know yourself with the new stove. Good on you.
A big cheesy smile to everyone. I am feeling so comfortable as it is lovely and cool, but not wet. Perfect summer day!

Before I met hubby, he lived on the dash of my car and travelled around the country.

Hello Libra here Karen :-) ,

looks like everyone is busy getting things ready for Christmas,

Love all the little cuties everyone.

I thought I might pose a question ...what are looking forward to eating over Christmas ?
What do you allow yourself at Christmas time, that you don't eat the rest of the year.

For me it is a tray of baked stuffing, served with great gobs of apple sauce.
Christmas cake is a close second.
Normally I don't have much of an appetite because I lose my urge for food when it is hot.
That will tell you how cool it is here ...lucky if we got up to 20C today (unbelievable ).

So go on, tell us what you love to munch on over Christmas.

Jean, I love your little intellectual pets. How gorgeous to have them round the computer with you while you are working on it.

Moon, I would love a family of penguins come breed here but don't know about the smell. I have trouble with bad smells.

Chrissy, although it is totally illegal on a diabetic's diet, I am going to get extra insulin out and have myself a good helping of Christmas pudding with brandy custard. Oh my is watering just thinking about it.

Libra. Well, you have a Scorpio trait there too.

Anthony, fingers crossed for you. I used to love growing things from seed, and cuttings too, and had me a green thumb. Seem to have lost it over the years, and just don't have the time for seeds these days.

My epiphyllum, Stern von Erlau has a seed pod developing. I don't know what it will be as I think the bees pollinated it. I might actually try to grow these when the fruit ripens. It could be the same as the magnificent mother plant, or a brand new ... something.

Morning everyone ...wow I think we will get through today without rain, it's still cold though ! will warm up later they say to a whole 23C ...such a huge difference to our usual high 30C's + 40C's + which are common here. Not complaining :-)

Moon I do love that Church sign ...how wonderful !

Scorpio trait ? probably but I don't scrub the toilet with a toothbrush belonging to someone I am mad at (like a Scorpio relative of mine does UGH !) ...she is lovable in every way but don't make her mad :)

Luckily the Christmas feast comes but once a year ...Christmas Pudding is so good !

Well we are missing a few busy people, but it's still early so I will pop in later after some gardening.

Good morning everyone. A beautiful morning here. Cloudy but warm. Very pleasant walking around the garden early.
A bit of tidying up along the paths to do today . It is very dry here now , unlike the 2 previous years at this time. Lots of dead plants that I had let go to self seed , need clearing out.
Going to a dangerous summer with all the long grass growing so well but now tinder dry.
Some fools had a roadside burn yesterday and it got out of hand. Hot & windy is not a day for burning .
It must have flared up early this morning as hubbys pager went off around 3 am . Nothing since, so they must have put it out.

Hello Moon, penguins are very cute , but I dont think I want them under my house. I'm sure those ones are well looked after by the Man upstairs.

Karen, grow your epi fruit if you like but be prepared to wait years for flowers.
I fertilised one of mine 3 years ago and am waiting , waiting...
I see a few fruits on my epis this year, inside the shadehouse. Must have been small insects. I picked the fruit off and tossed it.
There are 2 fruits from last year, ripened on one of the outside epis probably from bees. I have just let them go. They will fall off one day.

Hello Teresa, hope all is well with you over there.

Hello Colleen, you wont know yourself with the tanks and new watering system. Enjoy your new stove too. We tossed ours when it packed up.

Hello Dianne, did you see my arborea baby on the brug thread ? I hope your brugs are all opening .

Hello Chrissy, you must be pleased at having a little dry weather to get out and about in the garden.

Hello Anthony, I hope the sale does eventuate for you. Lots of beautiful liliums must be making your place lovely. I still have a couple of buds to open plus all the tigers.

Hello Charleen. I hope Charley behaves when all the reindeer are parked on your roof at Christmas.

Hello to everyone else and I hope all those with any illness etc are well and truly on the mend now. .

Going out to enjoy the day before it heats up.
Have a lovely day and enjoy this Chocolate Angelfood Cake

    Happy day,

Good morning everyone. It's an absolutely beautiful morning here. I got up at 5.30 and it was so warm even then. It's overcast and trying to rain now. There's a slight breeze lovely. Well my stove comes this morning but probably wont get it wired in til next week. I'll give the electrician a buzz when it gets here and let him know. I can smell my new little Aurea all over the yard. It smells different this morning. not so lemony. Well the rain has now covered the concrete path so it's getting a bit heavier. Doesn't matter as there's lots to do inside. One week to Christmas, not long now. Pork crackling, Chrissy. I love pork crackling. You can keep the pudding I'll just have the crackling thanks. It's making my mouth water just thinking about it. The new stove is fan-forced. Do they cook any different than an ordinary stove? I know you have to set them lower, oven, than an ordinary one but I was just wondering, do they cook the same. Must go, the boys are up and rearing to do something . be back later. Colleen

Charley and the donkeys got their Pedicures today.☺☺ They did very good. Even the girl donkeys were so sweet. Charley always tries himself but John the farrier straighten him out.. Love him he is good and gets it done without being mean. Can't find good farriers very much, most horse farriers Do Not like long ears at all. My Donkeys are very well mannered, now at the beginning they were bad. But we have worked and finally got them the way they should be.

I've been tempted but haven't painted them yet!!! He has the prettiest feet. Perfect shapes (to me)☺
You know when they are in shows they "do" painted their hooves. I bet he would be quite beautiful.
The farriers little boy(about 7-8) told me Charley had a "Mohawk." I love his Mohawk. I'll trim it in March when he gets his feet done again. The hooves grow slower thru the winter...

    Afternoon all...warm and windy here...
I worry about getting Mick's feet trimmed too, Charleen...but our farrier is awake up to all of his tricks..
It's his near hind that we have probs with...he gets the most sly look in his eyes and you just know that he is going to swing that hoof...a good whack in the ribs soon changes his mind...he can go nearly all year and on the last trim he will try it...lol
Yes, Charleen in those horse shows, the horses wear more make up than the female handlers...
Mind you, they do look beautiful with their enhanced eyes, manes and tails...and their painted hoofs.

I know that it's hooves, but nobody uses "ves" as a plural anymore do they?...roofs, hoofs, spoofs..just an observation.

When I went to my mum's Christmas party, I bought some raffle tickets and won a Christmas Cake..
It is really cute with Santa's legs sticking out of the chimney that is on the top of the cake...
Good thing that I hadn't made one this year..

I like fan forced ovens Colleen, I had one in my last house...Don't really know why but it seemed to cook cakes in particular very well... it was a Fischer & Paykal with a big plate heating drawer in the bottom..I tried to get another one when we moved here, but my model was no longer made...that heating drawer was so handy..

Cute sign Moon...One of the wineries up the road has a sign out the front that says..
DEAR SANTA ... HOW BAD IS BAD...I had to think about it...lol

    Congrats on your Arborea, Jean

Anthony, can't wait for your pics...those new ones sound great...ditto on the seed growing...

It has rained all day here. Thunder as well. There is a little bit of wind out there but not too bad. It has been quite warm, is only now starting to cool down a bit Haven't done much today. The boys had fun collecting snails when there was a break in the rain. It's just starting to come down again. Jean, when I've had enough of it I'll send it down to you okay? My stove is here but waiting to be wired in. We might go and do the last of the shopping tomorrow if it's not raining Then just wait for the big day. Colleen.

it rained so much yesterday that the driveway was flooded & I had to wear my gumboots to get out.
some surface flooding in ChCh but poor Nelson really copped it with major flooding - the insurance companies will be gnashing their teeth in anguish after yet another disaster they have to pay out on.

Dianne - you are clever, not many people get the Sioux connectio.
My stepdad's name is Stewart ( also known as Stewrat after a typo amused us all so much we kept using it)
Anyway when he was an Air Scout leader his boys gave him Stioux as his scout name -and the inspiration was the Sioux helicopter.
The tradition was for leaders names to be converted into the Maori form but there isn't one for Stewart.

Good morning everyone. Boy have we had some rain. It rained all day yesterday and through the night the thunder. boy. At 3am the rain was so heavy that it woke me up. Wish I'd had my new tanks in, I reckon they would be full now. Won't have to do any watering for a few days anyway. It's still all overcast out there so don't know if we'll get any more today. It's supposed to be 30C for Christmas eve. Hope it has a biiiig drop in temps for the big day so that we can enjoy our roast. Just a little more shopping and then hopefully my new stoves in and the boys and I can make some biscuits and maybe my yummy Sultana cake. We don't like Christmas cake much and the chooks usually end up with it so it's better to make something that everyone will eat. Marlene sorry to hear that Fred hasn't been too good. Hope he's on the mend now and you look after yourself too. Jean I hope you got some rain too. It's a beautiful morning here, very quite except for the birds. Must make another cuppa be back later. Good morning everyone.
Well, we did get a bit of rain. About 8 points, which wet the ground and thats about all.
Colleen, you can send some down now, you must have had enough.
At least all the small plants were watered so they will enjoy it. Nice and cool now. Very pleasant to be outside.
I guess its in our nature to complain about the weather but we all know its only in fun.
At least we are not in the position of some places like the Phillipines today and those others who suffer the worst disasters.

Hello Anthony, yes , it was like that here before the rain. Very hot wind.

Hello Teresa, seems like NZ is copping all sorts of weather. I hope you are recovered now and back enjoying work.

Hello Charleen. You will be missing the lovely weather now as winter cold gets closer. What is your next art project going to be ?
I think you are one clever lady with all the things you make.

Hello Dianne, I suppose you had lots of lovely rain all night too.
At least my kindy brugs got a bit on them. down in the shadehouse.

Hello Marlene, hope Fred is improving now. Lovely wedding.

Hello Chrissy and Elaine. . Hope all is well up your way. Christmas is getter ever closer.

Karen , how are things with you ? Hope all is better with you now too.

Hello to anyone else looking in.
Hugs for the girls for Christmas, Louise.

Heres a Christmas treat for you all. Yummy Christmas Cookies.

Good morning all. Seems incredible some of you are getting so much rain, while we sit here, waiting for it. They say its coming, some supposedly today, and it is overcast but not a drop has arrived yet.

Jean, I am getting there. No pain at all, but the wound has opened up more and looks totally revolting with that big patch of dead skin in the middle. I get it checked again tomorrow, and I think it will be all good news really as there is no infection that I can see at all. It is just going to take time, is all.

Christmas is going to be a bunch of us all recovering from our ops. My niece in law has had a skin cancer taken from her eye, has had plastic surgery done as her lower eyelid was removed, and her eye is actually stitched shut. So she will be the one with the patch over her eye. Barry's brother is having surgery to 3 arm joints just a few days before Christmas, so he will be the one with his arm in a sling. And of course, I'll be the one with the bandaged leg. Great, we can all sit round and discuss our war wounds.

Went to a place called Simply Living yesterday and scored some terracotta stuff, a nice medium size pot, a medium size terracotta garden ball, and an echidna. All for the princely sum of $27. A bargain, I think. My daughters Christmas pressie for the garden at her new unit. She has a cave like front door entrance that is too dark to grow much else but ferns, and I think the terracotta pieces will sit well in there with the brick and glass surroundings. And if she doesn't like them, I get to keep them. Don't think I'll count on it though.

Meanwhile, my lovely Vanilla Orchid has decided it likes it here and has started to really grow well. I think the "branches" have to be 15 or 20 feet long before they'll flower, so its good they are finally getting going. Here is the pic...

Let's hope that 2012 will usher in some Peace and good health for everyone ...2011 has been a shocker for almost everything one could think of.

Thank goodness for our gardens !
Well we had some sun yesterday ...another storm predicted this arvo, what are we supposed to do about triffid weeds and grass while the rain comes every day ??? we have so many bugs and grubs out there and they are ravenous !
On a happy note I came across a large Blue Tongue yesterday so happy to have some sun he was just laying on the damp ground in the open. I won't put the snail pellets out now, I love the Blue Tongues and that might hurt them if they eat a snail who has chomped on snail bait.

    Love your vanilla orchid Karen.

So it's the final countdown ...how many more sleeps to 2012 (can't wait !)

nicer day here today, it was overcast & cool but later started to brighten up.
Out with the weed spray & onto the driveway...
I hate spraying the self sown nemesia but you can only rescue so many before there is nowhere to put them.
The colours are hybridising quite nicely & I finally got some pure white flowers - those I pulled up & replanted.
My lilies seem to be enjoying the weather although the high winds have left some of the buds a bit bruised looking.
we were supposed to go xmas shopping today but hubby was invited to do aeroplane things so I am blobbed out on the couch with the dog - he is out to it.
every year I swear I will get xmas organised...
and this year is no different to the norm - nothing done yet.
I do know what I want to get for hubby, I just need to find it.
we had a customer in the shop getting gifts to post away to Aussie yesterday - she was saying that the lady at the post office reckoned she had never seen so many people posing stuff late.
they are blaming the earth quakes, people of ChCh are just numb & tired...
I still cannot accept that it really is only a matter of days away - I feel like it should be at least a month longer.
Mind you I still find it hard to believe certain buildings just aren't there, you see the empty space & think oh yeah that's really gone.
And then are surprised next time you see that empty space... oh yeah that really is gone...
    quake brain they call it.

Could someone send some rain up here, please? Am going to have to hose again as the winds have totally dried everything out again.

Jean, we get that too - the water just doesn't get into the ground, just runs over the top. Takes a lot of rain for it to soak into the clay. Then once it gets too wet, the house starts moving and the doors and windows jam up. Get it all fixed, it dries up, and the house moves back the other way and the doors and windows jam up again. Thank goodness I am not paying for the fix it fees.

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

Good morning everyone. Still a few showers and overcast here. Lovely rain.

I wish I could mail you some rain, Karen but I need what we are getting. I hope you get some soon
My plants are getting more of this rain into the soil as I had just watered before it started.. I find once the soil is wet, any moisture gets further in.
i can relate to your house problems. Our soil is clay too and the house has so many cracks, one would never get them fixed. They open and shut with the weather. Our doors are like yours , either shutting properly or not at all.
Hubby has given up moving the door catches as they will be out of line again just days after he did them.
Being an old cottage on top of hill, I often think it is only the chimney that holds us here. None of the floors are level and walls and cupboards go up and down. I say to hubby, one day we may just slide down the hill into the neighbors dam.
At least its a roof over our heads and hopefully will last as long as we do.

Hello Chrissy, perhaps you could push some rain to Karen, you are closer .
Be careful walking around on that slippery ground.

Hello Colleen and Dianne, hope you are getting good weather.

Teresa, thats sad , knowing people are still being affected by the earthquake in their lives.
Its hard to see familiar buildings just gone. When your surroundings alter so much, it is hard to get a grip on the smaller everyday things like trying to get ready for Christmas.
Some people can adjust quickly, but so many dont.

Hello Anthony, hope all is well with your and your lovely garden. Molly will be looking forward to next weekend when Santa arrives.

Hello Elaine, hope you are doing well there. Your pretty garden will be the place to relax over Christmas.

Charleen, there is a special plate of cookies in the kitchen for Charley and the long ears.
I hope you get lots of pretty things for Christmas .

Louise, if you are looking in, Have a great time over Christmas with Hank & the girls.

Hello Marlene and anyone else out there.

I am going out to see how the babies are all doing after the lovely rain.
Keep safe and enjoy your gardens.
Heres a yummy treat. . Apple and Blueberry Shortcake.

Overcast but certainly not cold here...we had a good soak yesterday and last night...so I don't have to water...
I will be bringing all my pots that are flowering in under the verandah...so they will look pretty near the glass doors on Christmas day.
There will be Brugs, Liliums and Gladioli especially for my mother whose name is Gladys.

I always have trouble with Gladdies, they fall over and the flowers get ruined by thrips...so this year I planted them in a pot and put one of the new Confidor tablets in the pot and I haven't seen any bugs at all on them and they are about to flower...

    Good morning everyone..
Cool here this morning but the sky is clearing. Supposed to get very hot for the next few days. That will make things humid after the rain.
We had nothing like the rain and storms elsewhere. Not that I want any either.
The garden is looking a bit green again after drying off so much.
I hear weeds talking about regrowing. They had better watch out, I still have Roundup.

I love lizards etc... We have a few blue tongues that wander around. Probably a snake or two as well but I dont see them . Lots of hiding places for all the little creatures and I make noise when I am diving into bushes . I dont want the snakes to have heart attack if I scare them.

Hello Anthony. Sounds like you have some of Chrissys storms down there. I hope all your lilies for the shows are okay.

Hello Marlene, pretty arum. My zantes are just coming out.

Hello Dianne. Did you get much of all that rain around the place ? Your brugs will be loving the rain . Mine seem to grow overnight in any rain.

Hello Colleen. How are your cacti going. I had a couple out here with bright red flowers which lasted for over a week. Dear little cacti with flowers bigger than them.

Hello Charleen, do you get many rattlesnakes in your area ? They are very beautiful creatures. I find if left alone, most creatures will avoid you .
I bet Charley doesnt like crawlies. Other animals seem to sense the danger around.

Hello Karen. How are you doing up there ? I do hope that the storms send some rain to you. I also hope you are feeling so much better now.

    Hello to everyone else.
I am going out in the sun to check on whats going on in the various garden areas.

Chrissy, my bougainvillea has turned triffid and I am going to have to cover myself in armour later in the autumn to cut it right back. I allowed it to grow over the fence but it also decided to grow inside the fence. I have to rescue the abutilons which are still defying it and growing up through the middle.

Hers something nice to have with your cuppa everyone. Chocolate Rum Truffles.
I just know Brian is around somewhere for these. Leisa must be there too.

Enjoy your day whatever the weather.. Its nearly time for the jolly fat man .

    Happy day,

Good morning everyone. A little chilly here this morning. Just right in my opinion. I hope it doesn't get to the high 30"s like they have said for Christmas day. I have just taken a walk around the yard. The brug that I planted out in the memory garden is out this morning. It's OSA by the look. My red Mandavilla is flowering beautifully and the Jewel of the Nile looks lovely. Not a lot of flowers in my back garden as there are too many Brugs everywhere. That will change as they flower and I see what is worth keeping. Knowing me probably all of them. The boys are up. We went and did their shopping yesterday. You wait until you see what I got from them. I always get a bit spoiled at Christmas and birthday times. What am I talking about I get spoiled all the time. Must go be back later. Colleen

We don't have many rattlesnakes but we do have Cottonmouths. They are poisonous too. They don't let you know when they are going to strike.
I'm afraid Charley and the donkeys would try to do a little tapdance on them. I've never seen a snake in the pasture. I know I wouldn't want those longear hooves coming down on me.
We finally got our cross up Hubby been working on, now we wait til dark to see what it looks like. We put it up on trellis. White and blue lights.

Oohhh, I hate snakes. Alright if they are behind a glass wall, I guess. Only ever had one here, a poisonous brown snake, but it was a young one. Didn't last long as neighbours had toddlers running around and didn't want to take any risks.

Good news for me. Sugar levels are lowest in 5 years, and my heart is skipping along just fine, despite the permanent bump in it. Leg is healing, very slowly but cleanly. All other tests came back great. Guess I'm gonna live to a ripe old age after all. Yeah! Might end up getting a nice garden going eventually after all.

Has everyone finished their Christmas shopping? I am finally done, except I have decided to add some scratchies to a couple just to "finish" them off. I got a couple of the boys that Lucky (Buddah) beer, so maybe the scratchies might get lucky too.

No rains here, Jean. A lovely sunny morning here this morning. Had to splash some more water around as the winds dry everything out dreadfully. I hope we get some good rain before too long though. Not the flooding kind, just enough to keep the gardens and yards green.

Charleen, apart from snakes, spiders, scorpions, ants, flies...etc. I love nature too. Too many cats and dogs here to have much but occasionally we get the odd blue tongue or even a frilly lizard passing through, wiley ones that have survived the dangers and made it to adulthood. One dog that lived next door killed anything that moved, but she has passed on now, so the little creatures don't have to worry about her these days. The frogmouths get the smaller lizards but they don't kill just for the sake of it so there is balance there. Other predator birds that live here are butcher birds, magpies, crows, and the crested hawks. Many of those will raid nests and kill the young birds of smaller species, and the result of that is, the smaller birds are being driven out of the area, which is sad.

Going to the shops this morning, and the post office, but really have to get my head into gear and do a grocery list in a hurry. Time is running out.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

I agree Charleen, I am quite horrified by rodents, even the mouse (which I admit can be pretty cute) is incontinent and this is why you get that awful smell if a mouse gets into any thing, just the thought of mouse wee on everything turns my stomach.
Yes snakes have their place in the World. Just hope they steer clear of me.

Very glad you are feeling better Karen, full of relief I expect :-)

What a pretty picture colleen ...lovely for Christmas, unlike my mud pie garden.

Jean now you know how to make boge babies ...root the bare tips up in water on a sunny window sill.
I will make some different cuttings next Spring if you want some different ones, I love them and am beside myself with joy because I can take these ones I love with me when I move.

Anthony I don't have lilies so I must temp you with something else here it is ...Hubby is working on it ...it is a 1950 Caddy stretched limo all 22 ft of it. I like it very much ...

Chrissy, I have tried time and again to get another bougie to grow here. hubby wants a different color. I love them but they just dont seem to want to grow when small. Even the large purple one was sitting for years under the trees and did nothing until we cut the trees down, then whoosh, up it went.
I would love a bright orange and practically any other color. I have bought a couple for hubby, but they just gave up and died.

Love the car. I like the old cars that look like cars. Hubby calls me old fashioned, but with something sturdy around me I feel safe anywhere.
Besides, whats the use of all this modern aerodynamics if you cant go that fast and the soft bodies these days just crumple to bits on impact. I always say that with a solid car, you have more chance of surviving an accident.

I like being a bit old fashioned.

    Jean.

Good morning everyone.. A lovely sunny morning but still chilly. It will warm up later . I like the temps mild & warm as they were yesterday. No getting all cold or hot & bothered.
My garden is certainly needing some trimming at the moment. I really must get busy with the hedge clippers.
Lots of seeds have fallen ready for next season. I will have great pile of dead plants by the time I get rid of all the old species geraniums. I just toss everything down along the back of the garden and it soon disappears, then new plants pop up.
I am dreading getting in to tackle the bougainvillea later in autumn, but it will have to be done. I will be wearing long sleeves and my thick gloves that day.
Lots of seedlings needing to be repotted and moved so I will be busy over the next few weeks.

Looking out the window, I see the wind is back. It was so nice to have it gone for a day or two..

Hello Charleen. Is Charley ready for Christmas ? Give him and the longears a good bunch of carrots for a holiday treat.
What project are you working on now ?

Hello Chrissy. Thats a very pretty bloom. All the ones I had here have died out. Its way too cold for them.
Besides, I have enough of a creeper with Jasmine sneaking around along with the ivies which have now decided to travel too.
I am finding ends of tendrils poking out in the oddest places.

Hello Teresa. Hope you are totally over the bug now and enjoying being back at work. Copper will be missing his couch companion .

Hello Colleen, lots of things for you to do with the boys getting ready for Christmas. Your broms are looking lovely.
Mine are starting to grow over each other in the greenhouse. Lots of flowers and pups.

Hello Dianne. How are things down your way ? I bet the brugs are looking good.
    Mine are growing well .
Your garden must look really lovely with all the other blooms too.

Hello Karen, so glad you are just about over your problems too. Its no fun being ill or laid up over holidays.
    Look after that leg.
Hello Elaine , what are you doing with yourself there ? Working on some lovely project, I would think. That pretty plant I had from you is Mandevilla..

Hello Anthony. Are you getting any warm weather yet ? I hope you have been able to save the lilies you are going to show .
No fun when the weather attacks them.

    Hello everyone else looking in.
I am off to enjoy some sun. Have a great day and be very good for Father Christmas.

Enjoy this Banana Chocolate Cake with your morning cuppa.
    Happy day.

Morning everyone...very cold here this morning..
Colleen, so glad that you are set up for a lovely Christmas with the boys and your family...this will give your new stove a good run in.
    What is that pretty flower?
Yes, my mum does spend Christmas day with us and stays awake for most of it too.
Jean, I have no luck with those pretty coloured, Boges...the big old rampant one, ok...I don't grow that because of the thorns...
The Caddy looks great, Chrissie...we have a car show for restored cars in our local park in January...
Great news Karen, congrats on getting your sugars under control, keep doing what you are doing.

A bit behind. Hi everyone. Hope you are not getting stressed out at this time. Gone crazy everywhere. Even the bus broke down today. I still got to the hospital on time for my appointment as I had a feeling the buses would be running late so I left early. More good news, they don't need to see me again. Ending a rather overwhelming year on a very good note.

For years I have been trying to get a pic of this hylocereus undatus across the road, but the buds have never obliged, until tonight. Finally, a massive 30cm (12 inches) across, and utterly magnificent. I have it growing down the back of my yard, but even if it does flowert, there is no way I am going to fight my way through the huge spiders that come out at night down there. For anyone who has never seen it, this one blooms very late at night only. It is dead before dawn, so the flower lasts just a few hours.

Good morning everyone. Cool but sunny here. Going to be a warm day .
I have just been out and watered those pots that need an extra drink in the heat. Now rushing about madly to get everything I need for shopping day.
Hubby of course is his usual self, wandering about getting nothing done.
He is always ready to hurry me up though, dear man.

Anthony, I hope Squeaky recovers quickly. Maybe hes been having a few too many sips of the beer when you are not looking .

Karen, I hope you are well on the road to being your lovely self again. Illness of any sort is no fun at all.

    Hello Chrissy, Dianne and Colleen.

Hello also to Teresa and Elaine.

Charleen, hope you are still getting a bit of nice weather there and not too cold as yet.
    Pats for Charley and friends.

Louise if you are looking in, hope you and all the family enjoy Christmas. Hugs for the girls.

    Better get going .

Enjoy this Walnut and Cinnamon Loaf

I hope you all have a wonderful day whether wet again or warm. Jean.

Hello..Hope everyone is having a good week and has a wonderful Christmas. I haven't been able to get online as broadband came to a screeching halt over a week ago..only halfway through the month which is most unusual. Hubby fessed up to leaving the digital radio going with internet settings..and he had it on all weekends and the times he was home in the mornings and here I was wondering which visiting child had been downloading while they were here! Lol! Anyway, I'm using his mobile dongle atm so just wanted to leave Christmas and New Year's wishes as it may be next year, Lol!, before we are back to normal broadband.

We had rain this morning and have had some cooler weather but it's heating up for the usual steamy Christmas! There are two developing cyclones so I hope there are no significant weather events coming. I ran into a friend who lives down where it flooded but not in the well-to-do area on the riverbank but a street or two back. Her home was inundated to the roof, she lost everything, no insurance for flood damage, of course, only got $50 000 from the flood donations (the aim of which was to help such people) and said she is just camping in her home. She got the bathroom cleaned up, used the money to make the kitchen workable and said it would take another $150 000 to make the rest habitable. So she has a tent and camps in her own home. She says most people think it's all back to normal but there are lots near her in the same situation. If you drive along the riverfront, the homes were quickly renovated and repainted, but further back, there are quite a few that are still empty, or, like hers, appear to be. As she says, she has no options, can't sell or move, no funds to fix it, no insurance. Still, she hasn't lost her sense of humour. So my Christmas wishes are that in 2012, things can be made better for all those people who lost in some way, loved ones, homeland, homes, livelihoods..2011 seemed to be an ending of things for a lot and may 2012 bring New Beginnings in a positive way.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year all...enjoy time with your loved ones! Cheers, Kat

PS As a sad note to the end of the year, the hero tug operator who risked his life to save many people from the floating concrete walkway that had taken off down the river during the January floods..it was heading to the pylons supporting the Gateway Bridge and he raced out in his little tug and steered it safely around (and could have been crushed)..he had only recently been to a hero ceremony etc by the Gov't..sadly, a crane or something crushed him at a wharf the end of last week..thoughts to his family.

Had a quick glance at your posts..not meaning to be melancholy here. Colleen, Fenceman lives on..and still whippersnips/trims/mows/blows nearly every day except during heavy rain. So, having endured regular bursts of that angry noise, and imagine the greenhouse gases and energy he is wasting..shame we can't divert some of that man power and resources to helping those who need it. And he did come back and clear out all the stuff growing along our side of the house..so Broms have all gone again..there is wire and pickets up but it's not high and it's wide wire..I haven't put stronger stuff there as he would complain and demand a yuppie fence and I can't afford it, or the carryon of having it done. He and parking bozo over the road (who still put their smelly or dirty rubbish in our bins..I pulled them up the driveway a bit further and they went down to the next neighbours') seem to do what they want, not work..oh, don't start me..but altruism is not in their nature. if it is true that the good die young, these two will have very long self-obsessed lives. Both are quite well off..but would be getting whatever lurks they could. Both live in posh places..the result of dodgy insurance claims.neither have pets.I could write a book, she says, hopping down from soap box and reminding herself to concentrate on the good people in the world.

BTW..we got MORE kittens..I bought hubby a ragdoll and a layanese..they are very affectionate..so, I am in kitty heaven.

Anthony..hope Squeaky is okay..Sending good wishes for a speedy recovery.. Cheers all

So sad to hear that flood victims are still suffering. Our governments need a good dose of reality, but I doubt it would ever touch Anna Bligh. She's just a puppet on someone else's strings.

I wish everyone a healthy and joyful Christmas, and pray they get it.

Well, I should be here for the next couple of days, but in case anyone won't be, have you all a Very Merry Christmas, and a safe, Happy New Year.

Oh Kat that is such a sad situation ...pity the Gov., does not help our own as much as it should. A disaster is a disaster. So sorry to hear that lovely bloke has lost his life, makes you wonder what life is all about sometimes. I am not a cat person (though I have had and cared for many over the years, but I must say that if I ever end up alone I would have a Rag Doll cat, I grew to love Boogie very much while caring for him (he is my G D's cat-recently stolen) he was loud and very talkative, his personality was like a ten year old child, most of all he was gentle and beautiful, a real sook, never ever put the claws out, I miss him.

I wanted to pop this in here because it is so wonderful I call this paying it forward ...and it's beautiful.

Lovely pic of Boogie, so sorry that he is missing...we have always had cats...the older they get the more companionable they become...cats live with you...dogs live for you...luv 'em both...and good ol' birds like Squeaky do their own thing...luv them too...glad it wasn't too serious, Anthony.

Kat, just looked up your Layanese, a very good friend for the Ragdoll by the sound of it, your other kitten will keep these on their toes...you will be in for a funny Christmas...kittens are a laugh a minute.

    2 more sleeps ...
Just a bit more shopping...make the extra desserts tomorrow for those who aren't plum pudding fans.
Always a Trifle for our daughter...I decided to use meringue cases this year rather than a pav...pavs are too big with the other desserts...

Presents all wrapped and under tree...a gift for our doctor and my hairdresser to be delivered today.
Have to buy treats for all of our families' dogs..they all have a stocking too..Horse cookies for Mick...
The cats are happiest with all the boxes and bags, where they can hide and play guerilla warfare and attack any leg that goes past...

    Have a good day, everyone.

Good morning everyone. A cool morning here and a bit overcast. Yesterday was quite hot but not uncomfortable while shopping.
I didnt get any orphans...The orphan table has gone. The store has put in a new entrance to the garden area and taken away the orphans.
Now what am I going to look for ? There is no where else there that has any.
I am sad. Maybe it will appear later.
I did buy a nice new jacket. ( hubby actually paid for it for my Christmas present)
I wanted something to wear on cool mornings when we go out . Not a cardigan but something light just until the sun warms up. I fond just the exact thing in a small shop.
Its a long line loose jacket in a lovely soft viscose fabric. It has 3/4 sleeves, no buttons etc just hangs nicely . It is black with large embroidery also in black, down the front.
Hubby thinks it looks very nice.
I was despairing of finding anything as all the other shops only seem to have summer wear and nothing in any type of jacket with sleeves.
Its about time buyers for shops and manufacturers realised that we can have summer & winter in the same week these days.

I have my potting mix now so will be potting madly over the weekend.
We may go out for a drive if the weather doesnt get too hot. Its nice to just drive and stop for a cuppa and some place that looks inviting. .

Hello Elaine, hope all goes well for you over the holidays.

Hello Chrissy, so nice to see the young ones having a good time and bringing pleasure to others.

Hello Charleen, I hope you have some nice weather for Christmas. pats for Charley .

Hello Colleen. I hope the boys have great time over Christmas. take time for yourself too.

Hello Karen. best wishes to you and family .

Hello Dianne, look after those brug babies, Enjoy the holidays.

Hello Anthony. lots of wishes for you and I hope little Molly has a great time . Hope Squeaky is feeling better too.

Hello Kat. nice to see you pop in again. Hope your broadband is okay again.
I hope the fenceman has not damaged too much there. He will get his just desserts one of these days.
Give him a shock and present him with a pot plant and card for Christmas.
You may hit a nerve and convince him to be nicer.

Hello Louise, if you happen to pop in. Best wishes to you & Hank and the girls.

I am not giving you all any cakes today. I have a lovely gift for each of you.
A virtual hamper of goodies to enjoy over the holidays.

Best wishes for Christmas and enjoy the day.
The Tea Room is always open so pop in if you need a break from the festivities.

Happy day. Stay safe and well.

well the earthquakes have certainly put the kybosh on last minute Xmas shopping...
I had a merino t shirt put aside for my brother & was going to pay for it this afternoon...
we were sent home when the after shocks kept coming & I forgot all about it until I got home, left my jacket behind as well so guess who is going in to work tomorrow - as long as we are open!
There might be a few people on Xmas day being told 'I am so sorry but your present is still in the shop'.
feel sorry for those who have flooding again, the liquefaction makes such a mess.
One lady on the news was saying it is the 4th time she has been flooded & she is sick of it, she started to cry but when she finished said thanks to the news crew for letting her vent...
the shakes are still going on, some serious rattles, hubby had to go back in to work as some of the machines are alarmed - aren't we all ;)
my family are ok, the house is still standing - the dog is nervous but sleeping on the couch beside me, the cat has teleported out of a closed room & nowhere to be seen.
she will come in when she is hungry & the house stops jumping around.
thanks for the good wishes everyone
    merry xmas!

Good thoughts and warmest wishes to you all for a very Merry Christmas.

Teresa, special good thoughts to you and all the folks in ChCh...please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

As the Mayans said...2012 is not the end of the world...it is the end of a calendar...because the Spaniards over ran the Mayan nation. Perhaps Mother Nature has spent her her fury and we all will live in a sunnier, kinder world.

    Kindest regards to you all.

Good morning everyone.. The sun is out and its very warm early. I will be sitting in the cool areas today. No running about in the sun.
I wont be doing much cooking at all tomorrow as I cooked out turkey last night so we can relax.

Teresa, I hope you are safe and well.
Its a terrible thing to be happening again , especially at Christmas.
I can only hope Mother Nature intends the New Year to be quieter and is using up all her shaking now.

A very happy time to everyone and I wish you all the most wonderful Christmas and a really fantastic 2012.

The year is ending on a shaky note, with the earthquakes in NZ, and it is very active along the Ring Of Fire. Lets hope Mother Nature is celebrating, and those areas are feeling the effects of her partying. But right, too many big disasters this year, floods, and fires among them. Enough! Be at peace, Mother.

Its all done, no need to face the masses in the shopping centres today, we can do our own thing. Weather has been very wet (yay, we needed it) but looks like the rain is easing now and it could be a lovely weekend. Just so long as it doesn't go the other way and get too hot! (Never happy, am I!)

Well, its Christmas Eve. Blessings to all, and may you be surrounded by the love of your family and friends, and the Light of those loved ones no longer with you.

Good morning everyone. I hope Christmas Day was the best ever for you all.

We decided to go out for a drive and see where we ended up.
I cut turkey slices ( I cooked the bird , the night before ) , bread & butter, some seasoning & a container of coleslaw.
Along with the thermos, picnic basket and of course, some Christmas cake.

We went via Dartmoor then down to Nelson . Had lunch on the foreshore at Port MacDonnell , feeding the seagulls any scraps. We were the only ones there.
It was a lot cooler than home , so lovely to be there.
We saw a dolphin swimming around just off the beach.
Along the way, we also saw wallabies and emus.

Came home a bit more inland then via Casterton. It was so hot by the time we arrived home,we were ready to go back to the lovely cool beach again.

A really relaxed and enjoyable day.

I hope you all had the same happy and relaxed day with all your families.
A time to enjoy and forget for a little while, all the goings on around the world.

Anthony, Molly is getting so big now. I bet she had a ball with her Pop.

Happy day Moon, hope you day was as nice as ours.

Hello Teresa. enjoy the rime and hopefully the new Year will be shake free.

Chrissy, I know you will be surrounded in rellies, Have a lovely time.

Dianne, I really hope none of the wet weather affected you. Take care.

Colleen, hope your day was exciting with the boys . Love the birds.

Charleen, hope your day was also a great one for you. Cookies for Charley in the kitchen. ( unless Santa ate them )

Enjoy the day everyone. Rest and relax after the hustle & bustle of Christmas Day..

I am off to play with my babies in the greenhouse and will enjoy the day relaxing.
Heres a bit more Christmas cake to finish up.

Charley and the donkey kids had Carrots and half an apple each so they had a nice Christmas.

After weeks of grey sky and rain the Sun came out for Christmas Day ! and it was wonderful, warm but not too hot (a little steamy perhaps but we had a wind blow the steam away in the afternoon.
We had a great time , probably ate a little too much ...real butter used (we only have real butter twice a year Christmas and Easter), for me that is such a treat !
We enjoyed a rest yesterday, (our choice, because we needed a quiet Christmas-no little ones in our immediate family) and we even had an afternoon snooze with the fan on. It was lovely!
I received a new computer ergonomic chair from Santa (so fancy I haven't figured out how to adjust it yet lol).
Lots of calls from distant family ...all in all it was a magic day because we are usually never alone and never have a rest unless ill, so that was such a treat and it was so enjoyed.

Your families all look so happy and Jean you day sounded great (except for the heat of course)

Charleen and Moon I don't know when your Christmas day ends so I will just wish you a very Merry Christmas just in case you are still celebrating :-) hugs to those spoiled long ears, bless them.

To everyone else I hope you are all recovering from a beautiful Christmas Day ! and let's look forward to 2012, it will be here in a flash now ...let's hope it will be kind.

The dog got a new rawhide bone, the cat had a sachet of cat food - hubby picked up the turkey one by sheer coincidence and she tucked in with gusto.
Hubby gave me an i-pod so when I took Copper for a nice long walk this morning I had music to listen to.
I gave him a card reader for his pc - he is thrilled as it means he doesn't have to mess about using my laptop to download his photos...
I am pleased as it means he doesn't have to mess about with my laptop ;)
We are both really happy with our new gadgets!
Family get together on Xmas day went really well, good food, a few glasses of bubbly & everyone loved their gifts - I was so glad i went back to the shop on Saturday for my brother's gift, I bought my stepdad a polo shirt while I was there & he was pleased with that - he hates branded clothing but this Drizabone shirt only had a very discreet bone on the edge of one sleeve, he didn't even notice it.
We arrived home at twilight - too late for a photo of my latest bloom so this morning I was out with the camera...
I am really loving the lilies & don't think I could have a garden with out them now.

Sitting here relaxing with a very full tummy.

Dinner today was leftovers, but really great leftovers.
Prawns, seafood mix, turkey, fresh coleslaw with french dressing ( just to be a bit upmarket today) , asparagus spears, onion & cucumber in balsamic vinegar.
After a nibble at bits of all that, I had a little room for Christmas pudding & custard.
I promise I will not eat anything else today.

Teresa, so glad you are able to have a laugh at all the NZ shakes. Sounds like you also had a lovely day.
I like the look on Miss Cassandras face. 'I'm boss of this garden', I can hear her saying.

Chrissy, I am sure your guardian angel made sure you had a bit of sun for Christmas , after all you are the 'angel lady'.

Glad you had a great day too, Charleen. Give Charley an extra pat for me.

I have been busy this morning, potting and moving things around. It has been a lovely cool morning , but the sun is appearing from behind the clouds so it will get hot again.
I moved all my cannas to their summer place. They sit in a kiddies paddle pool. They love it and so do the Pacific Coast irises.

I have a few seeds of a very pretty canna if anyone would like some.
I only have a few at the moment but there are 2 more pods to ripen a bit more & split. The plant must self fertile, because I have no others out.
Its called Little Devil and is a small growing one . Probably get to 2-3 foot high.

    Have added a pic.

    Have a happy day .

Good afternoon everyone. Well Christmas has finished here for another year. All the visitors have left and the boys are sitting quietly playing with their DS. We all had a lovely day yesterday with Roast Christmas dinner then catch what you can for tea. We still have plenty of cold meat left so looks like some cook- ups and some sandwiches for us. There's even enough for the dog and cats. Jean your Christmas-day picnic sounded wonderful. Chrissy so glad you got to rest for a change. Teresa glad you didn't have any more shakes. You enjoy yourselves today Charleen and Moon for your big day. Dianne I hope you had a great day too. I'm going to have a look at my pressies now. Lots of garden stuff, lights hanging pots statues plants gloves, markers a potting mix scoop. Everyone have a bit of a rest now. I'll be back later. Colleen

    Good morning everyone...
If I never see another chocolate in my life it will be too soon...We had so many different homemade
ones over the last two days...oooooohh I feel sick just thinking about them...a friend has started making them and came around on Christmas day with bags full...they were really beautifully decorated and tasted delicious...but I ate too many...I think that I will not eat anything sweet for a week to recover.

Glad that everyone had a great day, we did too...
It's nice to hear a Cocky story Anthony, he's been quiet for a while...love the pic of you and Molly, she will love her Barbie house...it doesn't seem that long since our grandaughter had one and this year we gave her a driving course for Christmas...those years fly by.

Had to watch the start of the Sydney to Hobart... then the first day of the Boxing Day test yesterday and what a beauty it...just the best way to relax after Christmas.

I'm off to the sales today, I want a new frypan, a really deep one...I know it's boring but it's necessary...lol...then back home to watch the cricket...
    I love Christmas...

Charleen, my Gladioli flowered unharmed, thanks to you...my mother was very happy to see it.
We didn't get much rain here at all...only a lot of thunder, we could see it heading toward Melbourne.
    Kettle is on Jean..

Look I got you all a new picture of my funny long ears. All covered in Ga. Red Mud. They are beautiful. You just would have to brush them down and they love all the extra attention. Isabelle had a limp the other day. I went out with my needle nose pliers and hoof pick. I never did feel anything in there. but I said a little prayer and She is not limping. God and i love those critters.
Look at that beautiful bloom. I love glads, they have gorgeous blooms. Very exotic tropical looking.

    Good morning everyone.
A lovely cool morning after a small ( very small) shower of rain during the night. I said to hubby last night that I could smell rain in the air. It is a distinctive smell, but he cant smell anything very well so said I was imagining things as the weather site showed no rain anywhere near us.
I had a good laugh this morning and a ' I told you so' grin.
The sun is just coming out from behind the clouds so will soon dry up my little shower.

Dianne, very glad you were not in that awful hail storm. So much damage. I feel for all those people .
Do you notice though, on the news reports re. flooding on roads etc, how many idiots are still driving fast in the background ?
    Some people never learn .

Anthony, its nice to hear about Cocky, we love hearing all your stories about him.
I bet Molly is having great fun with her Barbie house.
Does she have a wardrobe of clothes for Barbie ?
    I remember my daughter did.

Colleen, sounds like you all had a lovely day too. The boys will be enjoying their presents . You did well too. Lots of garden pressies.

Charleen. Love that pic. I can imagine the comment being made by the longeared one.
    Glad you also enjoyed Christmas.

Teresa, It was nice to see that the shakes were well behaved for a day or so. Lets hope it stays that way.
I bet Copper had a few extra nibbles from the leftovers.

Hello Kat. Sounds like you had a lovely time too. . Hope your kitties are all still safe . Maybe you could feed a few turkeys to the snakes to keep them full .

Lovely pressies, Moon. I may have to come over and borrow the shawl for the cooler weather..

    Hello to everyone else.
I am going to do a bit more potting of the larger rooted cuttings today. I played musical chairs yesterday with all the plants. Moving some down the back and some out of the greenhouse. At the moment I have a lot sitting around under my GHA brug.
He gets extra water as I water them.
The wading pool is now full of the cannas. They like to sit in the water for the summer. .
We are having the last of the leftovers for lunch today.
I suppose you will all be doing the same.
    Have a lovely day.
Enjoy something nice and light with your cuppa.. Cinnamon Teacake.
    Happy day, Jean.

Good morning everyone. Gosh, is it finally over? Has been so hectic. Charleen, so glad Isabelle's hoof is oK. And that black cat has the sweetest little face... Barry and I had our Christmas dinner in the park, overlooking the river (which was quite brown, and flowing very fast). No critters came to share our lunch, but we enjoyed watching the tiny colourful wrens and the butterflies flitting here and there.

Yesterday was the main family day and the morning was hectic. First an hour's drive to pick up Barry's mother, then over to drop her off at Barry's brothers place. Ian couldn't drive as he'd had surgery on his hand 2 days earlier.

Then over to my sisters place to swap pressies and enjoy some nibbles with a cuppa. Running late by now, we then headed back to Ian's only to find others were running even later, so in a way we caught up time wise.

So many presents under the tree, it took up half the lounge, almost. 4 generations of family members and their spouses, it was such fun to watch the young ones opening their pressies. One of the girls had her 16th birthday on Christmas Day, so we were celebrating that too.

Couldn't resist this pic of the flowering yuccas just up the road from me. Weren't we talking about these only recently?

How nice to have a birthday girl as well.

Anthony , that wasnt a breakfast that was an early lunch. Hmmm, dont the nobs call it brunch. Sounds yummy whatever you call. it.
Hope you do well at the show when it comes around, and we will be waiting to see all your trophies when its over.

I have been going potty all morning as it has been cool and enjoyable to work out side.

Have to go feed the man. He just wants something easy now, so frozen pizza will do him. I may have some fish & chips.

Copper is a bit disappointed not to get left overs but there isn't anything I could safely give him...
we left the chicken I cooked at my brother's, I did it in the slow cooker all day Xmas day, best way I know for tender moist chicken but not so good if you want an intact bird to carve, the meat just falls off the bone.
We have ham but that can give dogs pancreatitis so none for him.
he'd love some chocolate but that is off his menu too.
We did let him lick the empty ice cream container tonight so that made him a happy boy for a few minutes.
Had another shake this afternoon - I was a work in our tea room & it sounded like someone banging on the back door.
There are lots of new cracks in the block walls, we have been told not to go upstairs until engineers check it out - we weren't planning on going up there... nice to have our boss back us on that.
Don't think there is any new damage to our house, just made the existing cracks a bit wider & more obvious but we are on the list to have them fixed & that will happen when it happens.
Been lovely sunny weather but a change is coming in the next 2 days & it might be a wet cold New year.
Police will love that as it dampens the enthusiasm for mischief making :)

Good morning everyone. Its a cool morning here as is usual . Makes it not seem so bad when the day heats up later as we get cool evenings too.
The garden is very dry looking and I have slowly started getting some of the old plants out. Most will wait until autumn so I can really cut them back properly.
Have to deadhead the roses again. They are doing very well. I wonder if they just like where they are out in the open or if the handful of Epsom Salts each year helps. Probably both. I have no hose on them so they havent been watered in the 3 years they have been there.
I notice all the old irises I pulled out and threw under the trees are showing signs of growing. I dont mind as they are out of the way and will fill that empty spot.
I have had hundreds of Monarch butterflies around, but they are slowly dying off now.
I bought 4 new buddleas for them. I will plant them out in the salvia area as they will be good for shade over the smaller salvias.

Hello Teresa. At least Copper did get the icecream . All our scraps go to the maggies. They just love to fight over the carcase of any chooks. This time they got a turkey one.
Its so funny to watch them argue when there is plenty for all. They are so picky. If I toss out any meat scraps, they wont eat them unless they are from cooked meat.
Very upmarket birds here. I said to hubby, next thing they will want knives & forks. ...lol

Hello Chrissy. That pic of your sky looks just like ours has done for a long time , but we dont get the rain from ours. You will see blue sky soon, I hope.

Hello Karen, Colleen, Dianne, Anthony, Kat, Moon and Charleen.
I hope you are all enjoying the holidays and having some lovely weather. Keep safe and enjoy all your lovely presents.

I am off to play musical chairs with the plants again. I am having fun deciding who will go where. I now have 4 brugs on the front veranda so I can smell the flowers when they open.
I moved epis off benches and still have to plant a couple of Lilly Pillys.

Heres something tasty for morning tea. Banana Muffins.
    Enjoy the day.

Good morning everyone. The visitors have all gone now. I will have to wash today. I spent nearly all day watering again. It is really dry. I will be glad when the new watering system goes in and I can just turn on a tap. In the new year the plumber said so don't know just when. The boys got Ninja alarm clocks for Christmas. They have et them both nights to go off at 7am. But it's amazing, when they start to go off I go and watch them. They squirm a bit but don't wake up and one of the boys has his about a foot away from his head. After it goes off the second time I switch it off as i reckon that they must be tired and I'll leave them in bed a while longer. I will have to go and get my roses dead-headed too Jean. There's always something that needs doing in the garden. Must go and start the washing or we'll have no clothes to wear. That would be a sight. be back later Colleen

Had to laugh about John going to build another new shadehouse, Colleen. I remember when your first small one went up.
They do tend to breed , dont they ?
I now have the 3 greenhouses, 2 smaller shadehouses and the giant combined one. Watch out or you will be covering the yard with shadecloth. ...lol
In regard to moving the hills hoist, well, I am thinking of covering mine with shadecloth and hanging lots of pots on it.

Do what I did and buy a dryer. So much easier and it doesnt cost a fortune in power either.
Of course one isnt using it for just bits & pieces. I always do a full washload.
My arthritis makes it hard to hang washing on the line now and the dryer has been fantastic.
You can always get one of those pullout lines that attach to a wall for anything you need to hang out.

Good idea re the hoist Jean...a friend of mine has wisteria growing over his...it looks marvellous...good place for a grapevine too.
I have a wall one, to save space...
Same situation here with the roses, half in full flower, half due for a hair cut...It's certainly been a good year...
I'm repotting today, too...these baby Brugs are growing very tall.
I liked your Xmas birds, Colleen...show us where you place them.

Karen, You must have had a lovely time with 4 generations...I miss my Nanna and my aunts and uncles and without little kids, it's not quite the same...

Still, our Steph is still a baby to us all and she is so wonderful to my Mother...she tells her all about the latest fashion and who she has a crush on at the time and she'll sing K.K.K.Katie with mum at the drop of a hat...Mum and I used to sing that when she was little...she just loved saying K.K.K.Katie.
It's funny that mum can remember all the words and sing it clearly, yet she can't have a conversation..

Oh well, off to pot some floppy plants.

Teresa, love sweet peas. Such a beautiful color I did have some here that used to self sow each year , but they are no longer there as the area is now a jungle.

Good morning everyone. It's a beautiful morning here. Not a cloud in the sky. Don't know what might happen in ten minutes time though.lol That's how the weather is these days. Half the sky can be blue and the other half can be full of rain clouds. The day before Christmas my G/daughter showed me a Nutramedics cream that she uses. Apricot scented. So I put some on my hands and smoothed it over my face. Oh boy. am I paying for it now. I have blisters all on my fingers and my face is so itchy and my eyes have puffed up like someone gave me a bop. I hope they don't swell anymore or I won't be able to see.So much for expensive creams. It did feel good and smelled lovely but i won't do that again. I hope you are all getting over Christmas now. I've been out and watered some plants and repotted some. Did I tell you that the Barmera Council has agreed to plant a Memery Garden of Cacti for Brian. The place has been selected now and I just have to wait for them to prepare it and then Brians Cactus can be planted. They also want succulents in there. I will take a before pic for you all to see . It doesn't look very good but is a nice big area and after the cactus are planted it should be lovely. I'll keep you posted on any progress. Must go. be back later. colleen

Charleen, love those mules. They look quite cheeky. Glad you have a bright sunny day. It's a bit early here to tell what the sky looks like but they predict fine weather, not necessarily sunny.

Colleen, you must feel very proud that Brian will have such a lovely memorial. I will look forward to seeing photos as it develops. It's awful being allergic to beauty products. I have to be careful with shampoos, as some burn me behind the ears.

I didn't buy Christmas cake (being diabetic) but I don't miss out. I had a small piece at the dinner, and even some plum pudding with brandy custard. Paid the price after, but once a year, its worth it.

Going on a shopping excursion this morning. Mainly just to get out of the house for a bit. My leg is healing well and faster than predicted, but won't really stop seeping until that dead patch fills in and loses the rejected grafting skin caught in it. It's getting close, and infection free, so doing well.

The birds are stirring, and will soon get noisy, so will get some feed ready for them to keep them quiet for a while. I can see a glow in the air which means the sun is coming up through the trees. Time to start the day.

Hope everyone has a good one.
    Karen

Christmas for my little nocturnal visitor, happily munching on corn. Somewhat timid, so photo is taken in the dark with a flash through the screen door. Not the best but is all she will allow. She even got a couple of apricots last night.

Good morning everyone. Very cool morning but so nice to be out and about at this time , before the sun gets really hot.
did a bit more moving of a few brugs yesterday. I now have 4 on the veranda near the window. They all have buds , so maybe a nice scented place soon.

Moon , so sorry about your lovely dog. Always sad when a loved pet leaves us.

Charleen, that brown clay creature would have to be cheeky Charley.
I love the purple one though. You are a clever lady.

Karen, glad you are well on the way to better health now. Love your possum.
I had them when I used to live in Bright. They became quite tame and would eat from my hand.
They never touched my garden , but would eat the neighbors roses.

Colleen, its going to be an exciting time for you as Brians garden progresses. Dont forget to show us lots of pics.

Teresa, I hope you are getting some lovely weather for your walking to work . How is Copper handling the new lot of shakes? Poor thing must be a nervous wreck..

Dianne. I have a tray of new baby abutilons now. The first lot are doing well in their pots. I am hoping to see flowers next year.

Anthony, my Tigers are starting to open. I love the way they get their shiny black seeds up the stems.
How are your liliums going ? Getting closer the the show, I believe.
    How is Squeaky going ?

One of our neighbors passed away just before Christmas day, and we havent heard from our closer neighbor since he went away before Christmas.after asking me to keep an eye on his chooks and livestock. Hope all is well with him.

I am just off to open the greenhouses and let the sun in.

Hello to everyone else looking in.
I will open a new thread on Sunday. I know this one has become long but I have been holding off until next year...

Happy day and enjoy this plate of Cranberry Lemon Slices... ( Is there cream , I can hear Brian asking...lol)

Moon, we can feel your grief...we have to cherish every hour with those we love..animal or human.

I finally bought the electric frypan, a nice deep one...while I was looking at the recipes that came with it.
I had to smile to think of the ones that came with my first one...
The meals on the left are the modern ones...on the right are the ones suggested back in the 70's when you bought a new frypan.
    Gyoza (japanese dumplings)...Roast Beef
    Chili crab...Roast lamb
    Creamy oyster chicken...Roast Chicken
    Dahl. ...Curried sausages
    Penne Boscaiola ... Spaghetti Bolognaise
Lamb tagine ... Lamb hot pot.
    How times have changed...

My husband loves all of the ones on the right...but wouldn't touch the others...I'm sure it's only the names..lol
I hope all of your partners are a little more adventurous...

I am glad that your seeds are doing well, Jean...they would have just sat here...

Have a safe and happy weekend everyone, 2012 is 30 hrs away...

Good morning everyone. It's pretty warm here already. Supposed to be in the low 40's for the New Year. Thank heavens for aircon. Have been out and watered early this morning so everything looks pretty good at the moment. Don't know what they'll look like at the end of the day though. Have moved some seedlings right out of the sun. Will check on them this afternoon and make sure that they're still in the shade. Sorry to hear about your little dog Moon. It's so sad when we lose a pet. I will never forget having to get my son's shepherd of 15 years down. It broke my heart as it was like losing my son all over again. I still have his cat Lily here, actually she's sitting right here on the computer desk. She doesn't wander too far from either me or the youngest boy. Had a visitor the day before yesterday after 2 and a half years. The boy's "Mother" popped up out of the blue. The oldest one recognised her out the gate, the little one is having a bit of a hard time and boy, was he crabby last night. I just said to him if there's anything upsetting him to talk about it don't just get angry. He settled down quite well after that and then hopped into my bed for the night. Poor little ones, they don't know what's going on. She will be back today and then after that I don't know. Will have to wait and see what happens. I don't ask any questions, I just go with the flow, all the time wondering why. Well enough of my whinging. I hope everyone has a great last day of the year and not too many headaches tomorrow. I don't drink so it will be coffee for me. Be back later. Colleen

Moon, I too am so sorry that you have lost Chester. I think most of us know the sadness of losing a much loved pet, and can truly empathise with you.

Charleen, that is a possum. I know a lot of people consider them a pest, but I admire the way they survive suburbia and all its risks, cars and dogs and people. This one is part of a little family of mum, dad, and baby. They are a problem in the garden, but I find they do minimal damage if I leave them a treat each night. They like the pollen/nectar I feed my birds and will eat the left overs, along with apple, carrot, most fruits. This one is munching on a cob of corn, and last night she dined on a couple of apricots. I'd bought some that turned out to be too sour to eat, so the possum is getting them each night until they run out. Extra special treat.

Jean, what a colourful cake. You must do a lot of searching to find these.

Well, the year is almost over. I have to say that I, like so many others, will be glad to see the back of it. I hope we can march together into the New Year prepared, willing and able to make the most of it.

Ours are either Brush tailed or ringtail...we have both near me...thank goodness they are only on the farms or nature reserves...in the city, they can wreck the home garden...they love roses and such.
They are very cute though, both of them and they love cut up fruit.

and the brush tail possum likes birds eggs & baby birds too...
they are eating the native bush here in NZ to the extent that a lot of trees are dying and they have been filmed raiding the nests of endangered native birds.
their fur is lovely & soft & a clever kiwi came up with a way to strip the fur from possum skin so it can be blended with merino wool & spun into yarn.
They call it Merino Mink & it makes the softest, warmest socks, gloves, hats & scarves...
on a par with cashmere cost wise so I don't have any.

My heartfelt thanks to you all for your kind condolences.

Colleen, I can so empathize with you. My son's ex-wife asked us to take our grandson when he was 21 months old. Over the last 16 years she has wandered in and out of his life wreaking havoc each time. It can be so hard to maintain a calm non-judgmental demeanor when talking with him. It was especially hard when he was younger and hurt so badly. All I can say is love them lots, let them know you do and that you are always there to listen, love and guide. They will treasure you for that and with your guidance will be good strong young men. May the good Lord bless and keep you all.

A very HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all. Sincerest wishes for a calmer, kinder 2012.

This oppossum (with a visitor) moved into our yard and lived here for almost a year. We named him Elwood and he thought he was one of the cats. He would scurry up to the breezeway at feeding time and they all seemed to get along famously...they are ugly little buggars.
