Can anyone tell me how I can make these 2 lines merge to just one? I dislike multiple toolbars -they take space away from what I want to see. I have many times grabbed the double arrows and tried to move one, but they won't budge! In past IEs that could be done- my toolbar is not locked- any help out there? Thanks- Jo

If you use IE you can hit F11 to go full screen and make the tool bars hide. Hit F11 again to make the tool bars visible.

Not sure about the other browsers.

I use firefox, but if I remember right ~ see that line to the left of your home page button? The house? It looks like a separator line. You should be able to click on that whole group of buttons and drag it to the end of the top line (next to the help button).

edit: I see you've tried that, sorry. Did you try right-clicking on the empty space in the tool bar? Maybe you can hide those buttons, then unhide them where you want them.

I have done that and a lot of other things- they just won't move! Guess I'll have to live with it. Sometimes I hate the upgrades that keep coming.

I figured out that that bar is the command bar. You can make it go away, but then you wouldn't have access to those buttons unless you show the command bar again.

If you right click in the gray space, you can uncheck the 'command bar'. That should make it go away, but if you use your 'home' button you'd have to right click & check it again in order to see tho 'home' button (or any other commands).

I know what you mean about upgrades, though. Just when you get used to something, they have to go & upgrade it.

Jo -- I recall yrs ago, in older browsers you could combine them. I too hate how much room 'bars' take up ... I have not been able to combine them in a long time.
I just have to live with it.

Not certain but one may be an IE bar and the other a google bar. Don't think they will mix together.

I spoke too quickly. Checked the 'help' on both bars and they are both IE 9. There are different functions on the bars but I could not get them to merge.

OK lefty... how'd you do that??

    I use FF, latest version...

on my computer [tower] -- i'm on the laptop now...
OH... looking at this one compared to my tower... I have Win7 on this one, and XP on my tower.
so maybe they do look a bit different.

but i was able to add my 'mail icon' up top by using customize... but I could not combine any other tools bars up there.
I have one for comcast that DH uses to show his mail and who is logged in.
Plus -- i have one more tool bar, i think it's one i created where i was able to drop in my favorite web sites. ~~ this all is on XP.

Honestly, I don't remember. I originally did it with FF 4, and I have upgraded to FF 6 and now FF 8. I use to have individual icons for each bookmark, but when I change to FF 8, some of them disappeared and were replaced by the empty boxes. Under view>toolbars, the bookmarks toolbar is NOT checked. Yet the entries are listed under the bookmarks toolbar when I click on "bookmarks". See screen shot.

I am pretty sure that there were no directions I followed to combine the toolbars. I just futsed around with options/left clicking/right clicking and such.

I was able to futz with it yesterday and get my email links up there, but that was it... but that eliminated 1 tool bar.

what's your OS? My FF is ver8.0.1 with XP.

I'll have to play on my laptop [win7] to see what i can do.

How to merge your bookmarks toolbar with the menu bar:

-- Right click on the menu bar, choose customize.
---------- If there is a bookmarks icon in the tool box, grab it and place it in the menu bar.
-------------------- move your favorites to the new bookmark area by right clicking, drag an drop.
-------------------- click view, toolbars, uncheck bookmarks toolbar

---------- If there is no bookmarks icon in the tool box
------------------- 1) you can reinstall FF and there will be one. Better backup your stuff, first.
------------------- 2) you might be able to drag and drop the bookmarks toolbar if it is empty. You might need to -----------------------drag it to the dialog box first, and then to the menu bar.
---------------- click view, toolbars, uncheck bookmarks toolbar

    Shazzaaam!!

    Huge thanks Lefty.

Yanno -- I had that Bookmarks tool bar AS a tool bar, once I dragged it up there, but it stayed as an icon... never thought to uncheck that toolbar... but now they are all up there.

Now i have to figure how to get just the Comcast Mail thing ... but i think i know how to do that, then I can eliminate the whole comcast tool bar for DH.

    super dooper.

    Leftwood,

Is it advisable to download Firefox from a landline? If I download it to my laptop, (from a high speed connection) can I make a copy of the file and then transfer it to my desktop?

    Thanks, Evelyn

I found the Firefox Setup file in my downloads folder.. .ver9 is 14.5mb
I'd think you could download that, pop it on a flash drive and move it over.

not sure if they have different versions for different OS's [winXP, Vista or Win7] -- just make sure you get the correct version, so you dont have to repeat it.

    Lefty --

I've since purchased a new computer, my Tower finally died ...

    and i'm running FF ver11, Win7

and getting the bookmarks up in that little toolbar is a snap... just drag it from the address bar.
Now i can have all my fave places in one spot. YAY.
it also helps having a huge monitor, so there is room for a lot of them.

but again... that's for that tip in the new toolbar or i'd still be doing it the old fashion way.
