One thing ginger *is* good for is nausea.

My dad used to take the strongest ginger ale he could find (Vernor's) and heat it gently on the stove to get rid of the carbonation when us kids had car sickness, upset stomachs from 'flus or the like. I always used a tsp of grated ginger and a tsp of honey steeped in boiling water when I was pregnant and have recommended it to other folks for that and seasickness. Seems to work well.
