Did you have a nice Christmas? It was almost 60 degrees here. I actually worked outside for a bit. Everything was so dry, as the last 2 winters (and falls) have been wet and snowy. I even had to water. The kniphofia up front by the road is almost finished blooming. They have been going strong for over a month now. I'll probably cut them down tomorrow.
I have been working outdoors most of the day today, raking, weeding and sowing some seeds. Today I sowed larkspur, bachelor buttons, cosmos, clarkia and iberis. Next time I will sow various kinds of poppies, CA poppies and more larkspur, and some scented stock. It sure is good to be feeling better. Ear still hurts, though.
In zone 4 where I live it doesn't seem to get hot or humid enough to cause mildew on beebalm. Sometimes being in a cold climate has its benefits. I have to convince myself of this at the end of January!
we could use some rain here...below normal for this time of year. The news this evening said that so far for December we only have had about 7/10 of an inch. And that the water content of the snow in the Sierras is only 22% of normal.
yes, i deadhead. but the gardenia and camellia i bought a couple of years ago, just got too leggy and got badly sunburned, since our patio umbrella broke and dh didn't replace it this summer. thought i would start fresh this coming spring.
