Question about an older English helmet

Kure Beach, NC(Zone 9a)

I have an Equestrian brand velvet english helmet, (no chin strap), that I bought in 1982. I'm trying to decide what to do with it (sell or give away) and don't know if it is now just for decoration. I'm thinking the newer ones have much more padding than this one does.
Thanks for any input.

Those older helmets are now considered "items of apparel" and not safety helmets. I would agree that it is mainly decorative. I could not feel good about selling it or even giving it to anyone who was actually planning to ride in it.

That's what I was thinking. I only wore the dang thing a few times and have been carting it all over the country since then.
Thanks!

I remember when such "helmets" were the only head protection available. They normally fell off before the rider did.

Yep! To stay on they had to be tight! Or you put an external harness on them.
