Took this a few minutes ago does it look like four babies to you?I don`t want to disturb her again. It looks like a little buff in behind the partridge one on the right, but I thought she only had four eggs under her and I have no buffs.

These pics are form my own flock so there could be black blue splash partridge and white. The ones in my incubator and under Jadee(other broody in coop) could be any color as I purchased them.I now have two in the incubator hatched and another piped.

This my setup for the broodies and there babies, they both have dog crates so they have to stay in there to protect the babies but the babies walk right through the bars but come right back to mama. The hen that is on the right is the one I moved yesterday into the crate cause another hen drove her off her eggs and was sitting on them, she has hatched babies cause I seen the shells this morning when I went out,it is really cold and windy today 10 outside and 26 in coop, but mama`s know what to do and I have lots of heat lamps going.

You will have to watch closely when they get too big to fit through, so they don't get stuck...

Here are my incubator babies, still one to go,not sure if it will hatch. These ones will go under Jadee tomorow, she is hatching the brothers and sisters to these, she could not cover all the eggs I had gotten so some had to go in the incubator.Kinda anxious to see how many has hatched under her but its to cold today to look, she is just the best hen she will let me pick her up and do anything with her, that happens I guess when you raise one from hatching to two months old in the house, and she was all by herself so she got held a lot.

Here is Jadee with the incubator chicks ,the other one is under her.She also has four babies of her ouwn under her and two more eggs. The black hen that has three now she has four the other egg hatched.I put marbles in the water the first couple days and decided to take them out today and the one that hatched out over night got in the water dish and could not get out, glad I was there,I put the marbles back in and they will stay for a few more days.As soon as they have all the babies out I will get some more pics.So last count I have 11 silkie babies but Jadee has two more eggs and I have 6 in the incubator.

Awww how cute. I'm jealous...I want some silkie babies.
I got a small Brinsea incubator for Christmas so I hope to get some hatching eggs in early spring and give it a go.
I will have to try it out with a few of my current chickens eggies first just to get the hang of it. It is going to require me to do the turning and monitoring of the humidity really closely. They will be mutts probably, but they will be my hand raised boo boo babies.

New setup for black broody, she was having spasams because the babies were getting out and would not come back when she called them,so out come the old fire place screen, this works much better for her, that is the best garage sale find ever for me,I have used that will all my broodies, the only thing I don`t like is it is to tall so I can`t reach over it to get the water or food have to move out one end.

I so love silkies! After having to find homes for mine , I'm having Silkie withdrawal. I can get eggs or chicks though from my friends who adopted my babies so hopefully things will go better this coming year and I'll get to keep my new babies. Green your babies are awsome! So happy to see new chickies and new stories here!
Cat, Im thinking I'll go back to raising Mutts too! It seems as if the minute I tried to breed out any imperfections and tried for only a certain type of
Silkie...all Heck broke loose and I now have none! So this year I'll just go with what I get!...Yep thats the plan!

I come in the house this morning after chores and I heard baby chick sounds,dh is watching tv and the incubator is a few feet form him and I said I hear baby chick sounds! He never heard them to engrossed in tv(thats a man for you)so I have 5 eggs in there and really did not think they would hatch. They are from my flock with a very young rooster and last monday I had to take them out of the incubator and put them in my 20.00 dollar one the holds 5 silkie eggs (very tightly)and is heated with a christmas light bulb, then the bulb blew and I didn`t know when and the eggs were a little cold and I only turned them once a day cause I didn`t want to lose the heat in there, sometimes it would go up to 101 and then most of the time it was 98.The reason I had to take them out was they and some others were in the turner and the others were ready to stop turning and go into lock down, that was last Monday,so they went back in the big icubator four days ago and was not even shore of the hatch date, but had it marked for today on the calender. So when peaple worry about opening up the incubator and humidity and all the other things I think I proved them wrong.LOL Don`t know if they will all hatch.I will try to put it under broody with chicks that are 10 days old, will make sure it knows how to eat and drink first, hope there is more than one that hatches.Well thats my story for today.

Sad news,in the 6th picture up that says Jadee`s babies are growing see the two little white ones? The smallest is gone,I wnet out this morning to do chores and counted her babies and there was only 6,she is still in the cage so I don`t know what happened to it,it was the smallest one but was doing great,I looked everywhere in the cage outside the cage in behind the cage it just dissapeared.I put the plastic fencing around the cage so they could not get out but it may have got through that to,I feel bad,I just would like to know where its little body is,I let Jadee out to see if she could find it but nothing.I know these things happen but I thought I was so careful to make sure they were safe.
