Photography, renovating and remodeling the house, cooking (non-gardening time only), dining out, travel. Cape Cod and Maine are our two favorite places because we love both areas and they allow our dog, Harry, to share our cabin or room.

He just loves our stops at Dairy Queen.

In addition to flower and vegetable gardening, landscape design, I like to build things, eg. I built a pergola and a porch swing. I also built 6 raised boxes for my square foot garden. I also enjoy re-purposing things. It just gives me so much satisfaction to use something that might have gone to waste. I built my porch swing from an old teak deck-storage box my neighbor was discarding. I enjoy taking a lot of photos but I would not dare to call my self a photographer. Garden design is my favorite thing. I have some part of a plan for the next project on my mind constantly. Im a news and politics junkie and read that about as much as I read gardening books.

In no particular order: reading, crocheting, sewing, birding, camping, hiking, snow skiing, cooking, photography, crabbing, fishing, boating, canning/preserving (less than in years past but still an interest). Most recent garden hobby has been growing herbs and learning to use them, particularly as skin care products.

Until recently I was a band, football, hockey, powerlifting mom, but my last one graduated high school and my middle son has wrapped up his college hockey. Occasionally all 3 will do a tournament or pick up games. I travel when we can save up. But mostly, I tag along with our youth and my husband on various mission trips. We do Habitat, Global Sumaritans, went to New Orleans and we've made a three year commitment to work in Joplin. We were there last year just a month after the tornado. I also read, history and trashy romance novels. We all have to have a gulity pleasure.

I love the birds (and butterflies) and have a very active feeder all winter long. I can easily see it from my desk here. Such a joy to watch them!

I also love to write, read, make yard/garden art, and travel - although that's on hold right now due to illness in the family. I've been in a number of countries and love learning about and observing first-hand the various cultures. Just an amateur photographer.

I enjoy cooking, walking the dogs, bicycling on nature trails, stargazing, but gardening is my passion!
I selected "other" because I didn't notice "many hobbies" which would probably best described me. My problem is that I don't have time or money for all my interests; such as; bowling, sewing, beading, working Thomas Kincaid jigsaw puzzles, playing the piano, but I always find time & money for gardening!

Thank you, rampbrat, for helping out in my hometown of New Orleans. I have family there who suffered damage to their homes.
I love taking care of critters, no matter what species. I also love hiking in our woods, cutting new trails there, and finding colorful fungi and interesting wildflowers. Reading about the animal-human connection is what I do to relax, in addition to computer time.

I raise caterpillars and release them when they emerge as butterflies. I plant the host plants for the butterflies that are in our area, they lay eggs, I take the hatched caterpillars inside and feed them the host plant in protected cages...safe from parasitic insects. They make their chrysalis when grown and then emerge as butterflies.

I have butterfly cocoons right now for monarchs, but raised a batch of zebra long-wings on my Mandivillas. All of my host plants re-leaf here in southern mid Florida. I also bird, batik, sew, fish, solar boat fish, and make jewelry. I have about 200 coleus and a multitude of other plants making my deck a mini paradise overlooking Taylor Creek here in Okeechobee, Fl.
    I love cooking and eating.

Sugarweed...Do you have passion vine nearby? I am pretty certain the zebra longwing's host plants are passiflora varieties. Maybe they crawled onto the Mandavilla to pupate.

No Ma'm, they ate all the foliage off. They were orange with black spikes and cleaned those vines to the vine! They are some kind of B&W stripped butterfly. I was surprised too, but have a neighbor back in Jax that said they were stripping her Oleanders.
Who am I to argue with a caterpillar that stings if touched.
