The garbage people pick up Christmas trees Jan 5,6,7 (12th Night being notably the middle date). They are then trucked out to the dying wetlands and dumped where they supposedly encourage the marsh grass to grow back. As to artificial trees: my daughter and I drag our 8-9 ft Frazier fir (or whatever) up to my 2nd floor duplex every year - I don't even know anybody who buys a plastic tree. Sounds like a New York thing.
