Hello everyone. We came from here:

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1233609/#new

We have had a pretty good sign-up for this thread and I am really excited. The thread will remain open for sign up until 8:00 a.m. on January 10. Swap buddy names will be assigned, via dmail, on
January 11th. Swap boxes are to be mailed out by January 31st. Please read below the guidlines for this swap:

This is a thread for a new swap to be held in January 2012. A New Swap for a New Year! :-) This is a person to person secret swap, with each person given a buddy to send to.

The SOCK could be anything from warm fuzzy socks to wind socks. Any type of sock would work

The SNIFF could be anything scented such as candles, bath items, good smelling food, etc.

The SIP could be any type of beverage to sip such as coffees, teas, hot chocolate, wine (hmmm), etc. (Please be sure if you send something liquid, that is is packed well in bubble wrap, so it does not break!) You could also include something for your buddy to sip their beverages 'from'.

Participants are to make a list of some of their favorite things they would like to recieve and also anything they prefer not to receive. (example: I am allergic to oranges) Please include your sock/shoe size on your like/dislike post for the socks. The sending buddy can then use the list to help in putting together their buddies box. You are not required to include every item on someones list, this is just a guide.

I need everyone to send me their address by d-mail or let me know you are in the address exchange. Any participants that I do not know will be required to contact me by d-mail with your name, address, e-mail addy and phone number. This is to ensure that everyone that signs up participates. If you seem to be out of pocket for several days, I will contact you by d-mail. If not successfull, I will phone to see if you still desire to be in the swap. We all know things come up and sometimes someone needs to withdraw, and that is fine, as long as you have not already received your box from your swap buddy. I need to have some way to contact you so your partner will not be left out. I appreciate your understanding on this. Please be sure your DG memberships are paid up through February 15, 2012.

Limit for the swap will be $20, not including the cost of Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation.

If you are interested in this swap, please indicate interest in a post. Sign-ups will be through January 10, 2012 and swapee's assigned shortly thereafter. Boxes are to be sent out by January 31, 2012. Please send your delivery confirmation number to me when you mail your box.

New threads will be started as needed, so please check in once in a while to be sure we have not moved and you not moved with us. Threads will always start out the same as this one, with something other than 'Interest Thread' in the heading. New room numbers/links will be posted at the end of the previous thread. If you lose us, you can always go to the Groups, Swaps and Round Robins forum to find us.

I'm looking forward to doing this swap and hope everyone else does too. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Robyn ,funny you say anything about the thyroid ,I have nodules on mine some hot ,some cold.Truthfully I am WAY past due to have another radioactive thyroid scan done.Guess I have been putting it off because I am soooo very sick of doctoring and NEVER getting any answers.I have too many white blood cells, too many platelets and will run a low grade temp .They even took bone marrow at one point because they swore I had leukemia ,thank God I didn't .But still have no idea as to why the blood is like it is.This past fall they found a lump in my breast and had to go for all that testing including a core biopsy ,that dragged on til a couple days before xmas to come back as just a fiberous lump, thank God again. But all the testing is very costly and nerve racking ,to in the end have no answers !!!! And one thing about the fibro is you never know when you are really sick or just having a flare up !

Cville, this picture is nor from this year is it? I had some of these pink daffodils one time but they gradually faded away. I just stuck them about in the yard though, no prepared bed and it is clay (mostly) here. Perhaps if I had given them a better place to live???
I usually have crocus (the yellow) starting in December, but not this year. Some bulb foliage is popping up all over the yard, but this AM it is 18 degrees here. :(

I think it's around 18-20 degrees here this morning too.

Come Spring I'll have violets all over the back yard. Can't wait. Wishing my life away, I guess. What can you do???

I'm here, have spent the last week with my DGD and one of her friends, we had a blast working on headbands for a craft show. I love when the teens get involved and tell me what they are wearing now a days.

Thyroids, hmmm! Had a goiter in 74 that was attached to my thyroid, 2 surguries to remove both, thyroid was cancerous. Both surgeries happened 2 weeks before I was hit head on over Easter weekend. More surgeries to reshape the bones in my face and to wire my jaws shut. All this resulted in getting psoriasis. 38 years now with it. 4 years ago one of the para-throids had to be removed, it was over working itself shuting the others off. It gave me Kidney stones every 6 months for over 10 years. It took them that long to figure out what was causing all of that. The para thyroid was pulling calcium from my bones. Have had 3 back surgeries because of a stupid vacuum. my back has 4 screws in it. Now on top of all this I have the psoratic arthritis which is the worst form of RA. Luckily I have a great RA doctor and the meds she put me on has quieted the RA down and has literally gotten rid of almost all my psoriasis. The cold and damp kill me though no matter what. Today I am enjoing the beautiful weather outside, going to be in the 50's again today and 60's tomorrow and Friday. Then we have a dip down to the 40's over the weekend. The start of next week looks great again, in the 60's.

Forgot to add on my dislikes and such, I hate pink clothing unless it is on little girls and babies. I also love chocolate coffees.

Chocolate covered ants are great, haven't found any grasshoppers to try yet.

Ok, I'm headed to the store to return the chocolate covered grasshoppers. LOL.

My thryoid went untreated for five years thanks to an idiot doctor. I was curious about the thryoid because people I know who had their thyroid treated early seem to have less auto-immune trouble than those who had trouble getting it diagnosed or treated. The tyroid is so important and yet so misdiagnosed.

Ps. the tyroid controls body temp. If it's off you can be super hot or cold. Now that I'm entering menapause, it's alot like that too. My kids think I'm loosing my mind. Freezing and then melting. Boy, being a woman is so awesome.

That is so true. I get a blood test every year for my thyroid to make sure the meds I take are working right. Guess what, I am at the end of menopause YEAH! and you still get the flashes. DH says he knows I've lost all my marbles. lol

NNNNOOOOOO. I can't stand these flashes. To heck with the twinky defense, I'm going to use the menapause defense. And as for the husbands...how long do we think they could deal with it? This is the whole reason this swap works for us. We need to keep our feet warm, we need a drink and we must have chocolate.

My grandmother lived to be 82 and had hot flashes as long as she lived. i give up and think I will be the same. I will be 65 in March and still have them. BUT-- I am alive and healthy, and i usually do not have more than 2/day, usually in the AM before I go out to face the world. A little pain and grief just keeps me reminded to be thankful I am still alive.
Most of my email is filled with ads of various sorts. It keeps me busy unsubscribing, but when you are hooked on free samples, that just happens. What I meant to indicate is that it is a real joy to participate with real people here.

Ya, Clem told me to tell Neener and Fruity too HI !!!!!!

We have been running average and above on our daytime temps. Today is going to be a measly 70* and tomorrow 68*. LMBO!!!!! I'm sooooooo excited. It is currently 62*, I have the back door open letting some fresh air into the house! As soon as The Talk is over at 2:00 I am going to go out and plant some lily, tulip and amarylis bulbs. May have to break it up to 2 days, depending on how I feel. 70* in January is a big WooooHoooo!

Hey gals ... we haven't had any more interest in the swap for a while, so I am going to move the cutoff date up to Tuesday, January 10th @ 8:00 a.m. I will then try to get the swap names out sometime Wednesday, January 11th. Does that sound good to everyone? lol I BET it DOES!

Robynznest, have you ever heard of the resort/restaurant "The Old Oar House"? I know you haven't lived there long, but my Mom worked there for years. The resort is at the 81 mile marker if memory serves me right. My Mom's house was up from there on BB highway in Cole Turkey Acres. Most of the people my Mom knew and I knew have all left the area. On the ceiling of the resort there are lots of old oars hanging with peoples names on it. My Mom has one up there and I think I have one there from my sail boat I would take down there sometimes. Sailing on the lake is not great, especially the time I went out and was sailing and they opened the dam down below, the water was flowing so fast I couldn't get back to the house. I pulled to the side and wondered what the heck I was going to do, when my Mom and her boyfriend come up in the speed boat, what a relief. I had as a joke told them if I wasn't back in 3 hours to come after me...good thing cause I would still probably been stuck out in the middle of no where! lol

Robyn, my Mom moved down to the lake in the 1970's. She was just in her 40's then. Thru the years she watched people of retiring age move down and stay a few years and then have to move back to the city because as they got older they need more help from the kids and or doctors. Then a new set of retirees would move down and the process would start all over again. I never "lived" there but spent alot of time there. Sure were good times. Glad to know they still have the oars hanging from the ceiling... ;)

Shots in the back, holey moley I about pass out thinking about it...OMG!

Hi gals...just popping in for a second. I'm feeling pretty good. I usually start feeling better real quickly after the injections. He gives me some sedation and I am still awake and can feel some, but it isn't grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...owwwwwwwwwwwww...OUCH...NONONO, STOP!, etc . lol Just uncomfortable for a short time. And my pain mgmt. Dr. is just out of this world! He is so good, nice, great bedside manner and is nice looking which doesn't hurt anything! :-) He also does my thumb joints for the arthritis and that helps me out too.

2 more days ... tap, tap, tap... hopefully 48 hours from now you will all have your buddy's swap name! Woohooo

LK, yes I have had back and neck surgeries. Had L4-S1 in my back fused... 2 rods and 6 screws, then had a plate put in and fusion on my neck C3-C5. Hopefully won't have to have any more.

Sorry I haven't written for a bit... been fighting one of those colds... I think I'm through the worst of it though. Fun part is that I've gotten to read a bunch of books :)

REMINDER EVERYONE: SIGN-UP ENDS TODAY AT 8:00 A.M..

If you know of anyone else wanting to sign up, please be sure to let them know. If someone really wants in and does not make the 8:00 sign up, but can do it by 10:00, have them shoot me a d-mail. I have some things to do this morning and probably will not be here right at 8:00.

Thanks! This is going to be a goooooooooo-d time!

Has anyone seen or heard from froggies_girl/Julie? She signed up on Dec. 16th but I haven't seen her since and she has not done a like/dislike post. I have sent her a d-mail, hope she responds. I don't have her phone number. If not, I will have to drop her and I hate to do that if someone really wants in. If you see her on another thread, would you please ask her to get with me as soon as she can? I'm wanting to get the names out but will have to wait until tomorrow noon before I can drop her and get everyone's names to them.

Thanks!

Hello Gals ... I think it must be something with DG because ususally it will adjust the posts, but all of mine are that way on all my threads.
I was thinking it was my 'puter too but it isn't if others are having the same problem. To shorten them you have to treat it like a manueal
computer and hit enter so it will go to the next line when you want it to.

OK... just wanted to let you know I've been under the weather and just woke up. I had been waiting to hear back from one of our swapee's
to see if they were still in and have not heard back so I am going ahead and assigning buddies. You will have them today...promise!!!!!!

HEY GALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Names for this swap have been d-mailed!
Please let me know if you did not receive your name.
Remember this is a "secret" swap, so do not reveal the name of the
person you are sending your box to until they receive it, then they will
reveal their partner.
Send your box priority mail with a delivery confirmation number and dmail the
number to me, as a reply to your swap partner dmail, so I can help track them.
I will also start a new thread when I get the first delivery confirmation for our reveals.
I'm so excited about this swap, and I know a bunch of you all
are too. Have fun and happy shopping!

Patti

I still need to get out and do some more shopping. Maybe tomorrow when I go into town for my Dr.'s appt.. We just had a dusting of snow last night and it has pretty well melted off. Back to 60* about next Thursday. CRAZY weather!

Everybody's having fun! I LOVE it!!!!

Kelly ... what tiny feet you have girl!!!!! LOL Sure hope you get to feeling better. The crud is going all around the country! I feel better for a few days then BAM... it hits me again!

I know what you mean about being shut in Sue. I make myself go set in the sun when I take the doggies outside. I was feeling kinda down too, and that has helped.

You gals can add what ever you WANT! to your boxes. :-) I'm sure your buddies wouldn't mind a little Christmas or spring.

I finished up all my shopping today. I'm so excited to get it into the mail! Will get it packed up this weekend and hopefully get to town next week to get it in the mail. I know I have a dentist (YUCK) appt. on the 20th so I will at least get it in the mail by then.

Michelle, the one with two grey-striped kitties shows one on his hind feet pushing the other one into a Flat Rate Priority Box. The caption at the top of the pic says 'If it fits, it ships." And the lower caption says "Now get in there!" Meanwhile the second kitty being stuffed in the box has his mouth open showing teeth and ears laid back, obviously not wanting to be any part of the USPS system...lol Next is a pic of synda's yummy looking rotisserie chicken on the skewer in her new tabletop oven. Last pic posted is a person's hand holding a piece of bubble wrap and a caption that says, "We're all mature til someone pulls out bubble wrap." Speaking of which, when my SIL was here for her early Christmas visit, I gave her several bottles of her favorite local wine, pulled out a roll of bubble wrap for her to pack them in her suitcase, and we had a little popping fest ourselves that was a lot of fun!

Sorry you have to visit the dentist ,but I wish we had dental ins so I could go ,heck just a cleaning is $75...

Here is my new Toy ,a George Foreman Infared Countertop Oven / with a Rotisserie ,Here is what we had for dinner. I'll have to say one of the BEST investments I've ever made !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, that looks delish!! How is the cleanup on that oven? I look at stuff like that and think I'll spend hours cleaning nooks and crannies and different pcs and it puts me off the thought of buying ... so is it one of those things you think wow that would be great but I don't want to do all the cleanup we'll stick the bird in the regular oven instead and call it good ?

It has a drip tray at the bottom that pulls completely out and the skewers come out and just washed all in the sink ,dried and put back ! No splatter or anything ... but broiling may be a different story !

Cool oven there Synda.

Debra if you got my name, I'm easy. Anything you find will be great. My only exceptions is I hate pink and anything citrus.

Please don't pop the bubble wrap! It is not just air in them, it has chemicals to keep them full. It is bad for the inviroment, bad for your lungs and bad for animals. It can kill them. Not lecturing just letting you all know. I know I do a few now and then, it's fun until I remember it can kill.

OH YUM synda ... that looks delish! And on the rotisseree all that nasty fat drips away. GREAT!

I started dieting and exercising yesterday. Somehow over the holidays I have lost 10 lbs. Don't know how but thought, "OK...I have a kickstart, lets run with it!" :-) Not really any organized diet, just eating more fruits, veggies, salads and protein.

WOW Robin... I didn't know that about the bubble wrap! Good to know!

BIRDIEBLUE ... I am so sorry about you not knowing we moved up the date. OF COURSE we can get you in this swap!!!! WELCOME. Everyone was chomping at the bit and we hadn't had anyone else sign up for a few days, and since the interest thread had been up for a while, we jumped the gun on it. I will do some swapping myself ... tee hee ... so there will be 3 of you, including Birdie, to get an amended swap partner. I had a couple of offers so if you were not one of them, do not worry, I won't be changing your partner. Those that sent me dmails, look for new swap partner dmails. Thanks gals!!!!!!!!

I like fuzzy socks for sleeping
arm warmers with thumb hole (they're kinda like leg warmers)
most all of the lists above would work for me

Not into Nick knacks much
don't have many dislikes
favorite colors are yellow & turquoise blue (like the Swedish flag)

Someone asked if I have Blue Birds. Yes!!

I am so very glad to have a working puter again.

Wing waves to ya,
BB
