| What a lovely wind chime imapigeon. The curved wood really adds a nice touch and I love the way you hung the strings at varying lengths.
Think I'll start on a couple for spring birthday gifts now and they should actually be done by then. And I've been saving pieces of curved twisted wood and now will have a use for some of them. My husband keeps nagging me to get rid of it but I knew it would eventually come in handy. Ha! |

| Thanks everyone. I was really pleased with the way it turned out. But next time I'll put holes in the top and bottom of some of the leaves so I can string them somewhere besides at the end of the strands.
I know somewhere I have a box/stach of 30-year-old driftwood I saved for wind chimes...
That piece is a chunk of root from my (former) eucalyptus tree. I sanded and waxed it and had DH drill small holes (1/8" I think) all the way thru. Then I strung the pieces on 30-wt fishing line and tied knots under each bead. The strings go thru both sides. After I got everything strung & lined up the way I wanted it, he stuffed toothpicks in the holes and broke them off so the strands would stay in the right place (I know...brilliantly simple, right???)
I ordered more crystal beads so I can do more of these. I also think on the next one I'll hot-glue some small squares of mirror back-to-back with the fishing line in between.
Deb, I want to see whatever you've done. I've never made beads from scratch---just slip-cast them in molds in the old macrame days. I'd love to see yours so I can totally steal your ideas...LOL! |

| Hi Ima,
I haven't made beads but the dangles for the wind chimes. I'll take some pictures and post them.
I buy beads at wal-mart and Michaels and put them in between the dangles I make.

| Here are my first attempts at firing glass. It turned out pretty good. Would like to get back into that. I had a lot of trouble cutting the glass. I bought glass scraps off the internet, tried cutting it with a glass cutter and it didn't cut. I ended up breaking pieces off. I must practice more with it.

January 12, 2012 2:12 PM Post #8965128
| How I do it, is slab out my tile. Draw a design on it. Carve out the clay where I want the glass, just enough of an indent to hold the glass pieces. I paint the tile with underglaze, fire bisque 04. Than I put clear glaze over the whole tile, lay the glass in where I want it than fire to 05/06. I have an old kiln, so when it shuts off, I cover the hole on top with a brick and let it cool down slow. Here is another one, it only lets me do one pic at a time.

| How do you get those nice crisp outlines? Do you use the black wax resist technique, or??? |
Luvmypond Troy, OH
January 13, 2012 12:14 PM Post #8966307
| I use an ink pen to make my grooves in the clay after I slab it. Than when it's dry, I either use a real fine paintbrush or sometimes I paint heavily over the tile than sand it. The paint will stay in the grooves. Just make sure the clay is completely dry and the paint dry before you sand it. |

| I have no idea what it was. It said glass pieces. They came in a bag, mixed colors about 4x4 inch sheets. I got it off Ebay. It said it was for melting. They melted fine, just couldn't cut it with a glass cutter. I should of researched more before jumping in. |

All of the glass things look great you guys, beautiful. |

| Yep. I put the glaze on first than the glass on top of that. I was told it helps to hold the glass on. Good luck !!!! I'll have to do it again, after all this talk about it, makes me want to do another glass project. |
