I lived in Colorado for several years, and I've spent some quality time in AK. Snow doesn't prompt grocery store runs in those states - they don't bat an eye until they start measuring it in feet, not inches.
Here, I've seen people get antsy about their groceries when they predict a tornado. Really? I mean, if one hits, your groceries are not likely to stay on the pantry shelf. And it's not like the storm is going to hang around for days. Ditto for snow...we have never been "snowed" in here in 11 years, nor in our 15 years in Oklahoma before that. If we stay in on a snowy day, it's by choice, not because we can't get out.
