I have one with one "bar" across instead of 3...was used for butcher paper in store...could this be a holder for more then one roll of paper??

Yes, it's an old paper roll holder for multiple large rolls of wrapping paper. This one might have been used in a dry goods store or the like.

Mine holds one roll also. I actually have brown paper on mine. I enjoy wrapping country looking gifts in brown paper and using raffia as part of the bow. I have stenciled on the packages many times also.
