I, too save a lot of the garden cleanup for spring. Our yard has a gazillion leaves to rake up all fall, so when most of them are gone I leave a few around all the perennial beds, shrubs, etc. I love cleaning up leaves in the spring all the while checking out all the new growth after the winter doldrums. It is heartening to uncover new shoots and clean them up at the same time. It gets me back in touch with nature and in the mood to start planting!
