YES, there has been a more recent push to change the Indiana state flower, but not by politicians or businesspeople. Many garden groups, and school children all around the state petitioned the legislature to consider the native Spigelia 'Indian Pink' for the state flower. In spite of much public support, it didn't make it.
At least our state tree is still the Liriodendron tulipifera 'Tulip Poplar', a fine choice.
