After obtaining lavender from France, an old classmate dared to begin growing lavender on the Island of Maui, "up country" in Kula, an agricultural mecca. The famous Maui Onion is raised there. The weather is apparently perfect for lavender and they are quite successful at marketing this crop as well as bed and breakfast and all things lavender, including even clothing in their gift shop. He claims lavender grows there naturally. Nice to know.
