Many people don’t know the difference between frogs and toads. They are quite different animals, although they belong to the same animal group.

Frogs:

Need to live near water
Have smooth, moist skin that makes them look “slimy”.
Have a narrow body
Have higher, rounder, bulgier eyes
Have longer hind legs
Take long high jumps
Have many predators

Toads:
Do not need to live near water to survive
Have rough, dry, bumpy skin
Have a wider body
Have lower, football shaped eyes
Have shorter, less powerful hind legs
Will run or take small hops rather than jump
Do not have many predators. Toad’s skin lets out a bitter taste and smell that burns the eyes and nostrils of its predators, much like a skunk does.

And neither frogs nor toads will give you warts! That is just a myth.
**************************************************************************************************************

LK, Thank you for the frog-toad comparison!!!!

I'm a toad lover since I live in the trees and only have a few frogs in my tiny pond, but plenty of toads in the yard and garden!

Yes, that's exactly right, happ. We all *know*here that our last frost date is usually around Tax Day (15th of April), but we were lulled into a sense of complacency this year. I don't think we had snow on the ground for more than 24 hrs. total the entire winter. Everything has gone bonkers with growth and blooms. I hope this is the last possible frost warning we have. :o(

We always had fun in the laundry mat playing cards or board games with the kids. I hate that your experience was so bad Kris!! Wish we lived closer, you could come over here and suds your duds.

One of my favorite memories is from 2002- youngest Grandson was 2 years old..went to the laundromat with him and my DD- They had a jukebox there! So I loaded up some country music, scooped up Grant in my arms and two-stepped with him around the laundromat :-) Didn't care what others thought, cause Grant was having a blast and thought I was the cat's meow!! LOL

Went through the final walk through on the new place today- you should see all the hostas outside!! woohoo! 10 days until I get to move in :)

Char, What a visual. LOL!

Same here, Bev. I do believe the weather liars are right about tonight. They were wrong last night in my neck of the woods, but it was still cold in the mid-30's and don't think today's high was much above 50. I hope you aren't near any of the wildfires. Hubby built a smal fire in our woodstove this afternoon. Oh how the heat feels toasty.

Before he retired 3 years ago and we were traveling in our camper with his job, often staying in various campgrounds for months at a time, my fav laundrymat was owned by a lady who had an attached gift shop and a ceramic studio. She made the chore of having to schlep laundry every week an enjoyable experience and we quickly became friends. Your Snowman candle sitter came from her shop, Betty, although I didn't paint it until we were home. It was a fun place and helped pass the time picking up a few pieces to paint while I was home alone in our camper.

Geez at the mountain of snow, Mary. When will you finally thaw out? Or is that a rhetorical question...lol

I tried to get everything in one shot. I hope everyone can see how cute all my froggies are!! DH walked past the pantry door and asked where all the green goodies came from . . . "duh, in the package you didn't tell me about!!" . . . silly menfolk!

Starting at the top left corner: Frog banner, a really cool flannel frog pillow case, a wind chime filled with little dangling frogs, a vertical wooden frog sign spelling out GARDEN (so clever), a frog flag, a cuddly little stuffed frog with a clip, a healthy happy plant (what is it?) to act as hair for the cute flower pot boy holding a frog, and a froggie key chain (I collect key chains, BTW)!

Did I mention how cute everything is? Thank you Sue!!!!!

What diversity there is when it comes to frogs and toads. This is my first time to do this swap and I can see that everyone's box will be quite different. Fun indeed!

I need to get hoppin! I have a couple of froggies but am looking for something 'special'! Maybe I can get to that tomorrow!

DH, DGS and I will be walking in the cancer walk at Purdue University first thing in the morning. It's a 5K and takes about an hour for us to walk it. We have done this for the past few years and look forward to it each year. Several family members have passed from cancer and my DFIL and Ex-husband have been diagnosed with cancer. We do this in honor of those who have passed and those fighting that disease right now.

HAPPY FRIDAY TO ALL! Have a wonderful day!

The past few years friends and I have walked in the all night walk for breast cancer...they hold it on a Friday night and the first year, I worked that day so I got up at 4:30 and went to work and then we walked until 6am the next morning...I wasn't tired until we quit and I had to drive home...I will never drive home again like that...heavens. It is nice to spend time doing something good and spending time with people you love just walking...perfect example of quality time.

Have a great day on your walk.

Love all the froggy stuff, so darn cute. I am going to get with it tonight and go shopping... the mail lady on Monday is gonna wonder what the heck I am doing...rofl, I have so many packages to get in the mail!

Edited because I am forgetful? Least I think that is why I edited, or maybe cause I can't spell...guess that could be considered forgetful...rofl. I use to know how to spell...

Speaking of which- later next week I may be offline for a few days while we switch/move things over to the new house..but I'll be back as soon as I can to see what new frogs have arrived :)

Everybody be safe this weekend-those of you in TX,OK,KS,NE, IA (heck, that's me!) and so on as this storm front rolls through- they expect to see some tornadoes from it :(

Freaky weather indeed, Cindy, for CA. Ugh! I lived there almost 40 years and don't remember even one hailstorm where I was. And I was up in Nor Cal in Redding (fairly close to where you are) for 17 years. :(

Susie, I'm glad you liked everything. (I almost kept the hat - oops.) If ya'll don't eat Swiss Chard and Cardoon, they are quite hardy and make beautiful ornamental plants around the yard and gardens as well.

Me too on the chard, Kris. Love the stuff. I think you'll want the Cardoon even just for the ornamental value and they are perennial in your zone and heavy reseeders (can get out of control at times). This variety can get 6 ft. tall and will grow in clay soil without much supplemental water. I can send you some seed once you're ready for it. :)

I Have lots of HORSERADISH PLANTS anyone want any ? the leaves get about 3ft tall & they are pretty as a back ground plant .

I think that tall for you too, Susie. But may not be perennial there like it is here. I just don't know.

Yes, you have to watch some things if you are on blood thinners, for sure, I know. I grow the Swiss Chard as an ornamental plant as well ... in a perennial border or wherever it can be tucked into the landscape. It is so pretty with the red stalks. Very decorative. It will tolerate some shade but not full shade. That variety is super hardy and will be perennial for you too, I think, until it bolts to seed (usually 2nd or 3rd year here). I hate to say for sure in different climate zones. YKWIM.

Carol ... does well in clay soil you say? I'd love some if it does!

DJ ... I'd also like some horseradish if you have enough. What is it's light requirement?

Cindy ... so sorry about the hail! Hope your plants pull through!
Great boxes you girls have received. I think I can get mine finished up tomorrow to mail Monday!

We got 1 3/4" of rain last night. I'm so glad we are having a wet spring. We sure needed it after last summer! At least the ponds and lakes will get filled back up, I hope. And not have the flooding we had a couple years ago. More chance of rain tonight, but nothing showing up on the radar right now.

We had our "Family Day" today. Cooked out burgers and dogs. Everyone brought stuff. Sooooooooo good! DH took the 3 yo DGD for a ride on the donkey. Everyone was following her around taking pictures and video's. It was like her own little entourage. sp? She is the only grandchild/neice so far on his side of the family, so she is pretty spoiled, but very good. Then I was saddleing the horses so his sister and I could go ride, and she wanted to ride my horse too. So I put a little pillow in front of me and she went riding with us too. She loved it! And of course, so did I!!!!!!!!!

DH and I are going to work on my new flower bed out by the road tomorrow. Have to gather up some more big rocks for it. Sure hope not too many people help themselves to a bouquet now and then. lol I don't mind sharing, as long as they leave the plants and some for me. tee hee I'm really not worried here in our little 'family of neighbors'. Everyone would share anything they had!

Been offline for several days and a bunch more posts to read up on. Can't wait to see the froggies land in their new home so we can see!

Oh yes, when we moved here where they don't have curbside recycling (well, the city doesn't), I came a big unhinged since I'd had that for decades. Now I have to save everything and take it to the "Convenience" Center. :-/ Not too much convenient about it but better than putting everything into the landfill. I have a twinge of guilt if I throw away anything I know could have been recycled. :( You do get trained with the habit over the years.

I hope Debra, Crit, and everyone else in the path of those storms is okay.

Happ, I go through the worry stuff each time I pack a box. I think that one nice thing is a great idea. We have had this discussion before about 1 $20 item or 20 $1 items. I always use the "I would gladly keep that" opinion when I am picking a buddy's stuff. Many times I have. LOL

I have been seeing all the devastation, and hearing more today. I am so glad that Debra and family are fine. We have been having pyrotechnics but no rain or hail. Lots of hard wind, and it is actually cool outside, 65. Quite a break from the 87 the other day.

Charlene, got your box this afternoon, opened it up in my car and it dumped dirt on me but I never did find a plant, hope the frogs didn't eat it. gg

She sent me two outside frogs, a nail care set and a Charlie pin. I even got a froggie bag!!! And stretchable frogs as well! Evan seems to think that you can stretch them and shoot them at stuff. If so, I will lose them to him when heads back up to college tomorrow. Not fair. Also got a frog patch, a little tree face(did you make that?), and a fabric frog square.

What a fun box, thanks!

Joy

I will post pics of the fun box she sent as soon as I get a chance, may be heading to KS before dawn in the morning. Will be a quick trip to pick up two baby goaties.

F.R.O.G. JAM
From Uncle Phaedrus
Fig, Raspberry, Orange, Ginger (FROG)
Several weeks ago my daughter in law called asking if I had the recipe for frog jam I had
to reply no. She had bought a jar in a gourmet shop and thought it was delicious. She shared figs from her trees with me and yesterday was my test day. The jam turned out wonderful, hope
you enjoy it.

3 oranges juiced
2 (3 oz.) packages raspberry gelatin
4 cups mashed ripe figs
4 cups sugar
4 tablespoons orange zest (3 oranges)
4 tablespoons fresh ginger finely chopped (food processor)

In large sauce pan add orange juice and gelatin stir until dissolved add chopped figs,
sugar, orange zest, and ginger let come to a boil on medium heat, reduce down to low,
stirring often as it will burn. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes continue stirring. Mixture will
become thicker. Pour into sterilized jars: seal. Place in canner fill with water process
15 minutes. Remove jars place on towel and let cool.
Guess what ?? it was Ginger not Grape. What I get for guessing. But anyhow here is the Recipes.
Love and mule nuzzles to all...

Oooo, can't wait to try the jam, maybe this weekend! Thanks for sharing, it sounds delish. A mug rug, I love it. What a cool name. I wondered about the plastic/rubber frog. I wasn't sure if he croaked or what, and Jam, my pup, thought it was for him so I had to put it up till I can take a photo.

Thanks again, BTW, I stay dirty, just spent a while looking for the plant and couldn't figure out where it went, you know, blonde moments.

Love the picture on the wall.

The box sounds like a lot of fun frogs...had to laugh about looking for the plant, sounds like something I would do...rofl.

It is amazing so many tornados over 120 they are saying on Saturday...good thing that part of Kansas and Oklahoma are mostly rural so there is alot of open space...heavens. I know I am whacko but I always worry about the wild animals...I know I know I am ready for the home...rofl. So lucky there were so few deaths and injuries.

We have cooled off and more like April weather, after being so warm in March I miss it..rofl. Our Master Gardener meeting was at a commerical greenhouse one of our MG's run. She has some amazing things in bloom. She has one of my favortie coles, Sedona and another that is really pretty called Redhead. Dang I should of taken pics.

Charleen fig trees are hardy aren't they. I had one that's inches off the ground after the cats had some scenarios with it.
Now it's recovering pretty good, but has a tendency to grow sideway... (must be lacking of confidence or trying to hide from the rambunctious cats)

My Ex husband passed away on Friday. I know I posted on one or two of the forums earlier that he had been diagnosed back in December with esophagus cancer that had spread to the liver and spine. He was doing treatments but they didn't gain him much additional time. We had 4 kids together and stayed friends after the divorce so I was able to be there for our kids, his mom and siblings. It was hard to let him go but he is not suffering with pain or the horrible disease anymore. His weight had dropped down below 100 lbs as he couldn't eat solid food due to the tumor in his esophagus. The kids are now concentrating on the property and settling his estate. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers.

My box should go out on time...I do have a couple more things to pick up but should have it ready to go by Saturday.

Thanks,

Thanks everyone...I think the family handled his death pretty well. They know he is no longer in pain or suffering so they are thankful for that. Now the kids are dividing up the furniture, pictures, etc and will sell the house and his truck. I believe we will be buying the truck as DH needs a newer vehicle (and he WANTS a truck!). This will help out all of us.

I got my box of froggies yesterday from Sundownr (Bev)! I will try to remember what all was in the box...I took pictures but my DH took the camera today so he could try to locate an old cemetery. We are both into Genealogy and do a lot of picture taking in the cemeteries. Anyway, back to my froggies! If I can remember correctly, there were 3 tiny colored frogs (like the way you told me about those! Cute!), a froggie tea light holder, a really cool looking frog with colored glass on the back, a standing frog, another frog with the cutest face!, a frog mini garden flag (love my flags!), gloves (green...when I first looked at them I thought those designs were frogs too!), a little stuffed cloth froggie that makes a froggie sound when his back is pressed!, did I miss anything? I didn't write it down because I was going to use my camera to help me remember! I think I got it all but feel free to add anything I missed! Love them all! Great box Bev! Thanks!

Bev,
We lived in Green Valley from 1988 until I moved back in 2002. It was gorgeous to wake up and see the beautiful mountains...sometimes we didn't see the sun until almost noon! I worked at Bluefield State College from 1990 until 2002 when I moved back. Lots of friends were left but I still keep in touch with quite a few of them! My Ex husband was the store manager for the ACME store in Princeton for quite awhile...probably from 1988-1995 or 1996...I don't remember when he was transferred to Richlands.

I agree, Bev, there's such a difference in the climate and temperature between the foothills where I live and the more majestic mountains in WV. OK, here is my box from monkeymomr (Robyn). Just too kewl. Love it all. First on the left is a solar light with a froggie setting on a mushroom. Love, love, love it! I got one (but it's different) in last years froggie swap. I never see them like that! Next is a stuffed froggie to snuggle with. Can't let Bobbie and Bowser get a hold of it! They would love it but I would not love them having it! The cutest stepping stone with a froggie cutout that says GARDEN. I know just where this will go! Last but not least is See No Evil, Hear No Evil and Speak No Evil froggies. I LOVE THEM. lol they are so cute with the big eyes and all. Too bad Speak No Evil couldn't speak and yell at the package handlers, as part of him is broken off. I'll have to see if I can work some magic with the superglue and put him back together.

Thank you so very much Robyn!!!! I love it all!!!!!

NOTE: I apoligize Robyn, I tried to send this last night and when I did it wouldn't go. I realized I had no satellite signal for my internet, as we had storm clouds rolling in!

Jaye, I got him at one of our local stores last fall. If you are REAL good and say your prayers, one just might end up in your mail box. And I don't mean prayers for a froggie holding a leaf! :-)

Yes, I love the trio too. And the bug eyes. lol I have another froggie I bought myself that is about 12-18'' tall, holding a welcome sign with the bug eyes. I got him at Hobby Lobby last year. I picked him up to send to my froggie buddy last year, but when looking at him he had a fairly large crack. It is between the frog and the sign so doesn't show unless you look, but I didn't want to send my buddy something that was cracked, and he was the last one. I have him setting at the far end of my pool, and looks good. :-)

LOL @ Jaye. You are doing good if you are 90% good. Not sure I could rate myself that high. :-)

I'll check the store next time I am in town to see if they have that same froggie this year. Cross your fingers, and maybe say a little prayer that I find one. See, you will be praying for me and not asking for yourself, which isn't a bad thing either.

Yeah, right, Crit. That's a great frog "tale". Croak, croak. :-D)))

Meanwhile, some froggies hopped up to my house today. Thank you. Robyn. We have two Robyns, I see ... my sender is Robynznest.

First, I'll apologize for the quality of the photos. Trying to take a picture of a windchime isn't always the easiest thing to do. Especially when the wind is blowing. But I received a great frog windchime. Some other froggies and a ladybug came along too. The ladybug is a sweet little pot hanger to hang on the side of a pot (duh). The sunflower thingy is a small hanging bird feeder (suitable for small hanging birds). Yuk, yuk. OK, I'm done.

Thank you very much for everything, girl, and for the sweet card that came along as well. ♥

What's with the mail service. I've never heard of so many breaks in well packed boxes.
I got my box today. I grab it right out of the mail ladys hands. I think she's still laughing. I love it. I will hopefully post a picture of it tomorrow. It's three frogs that look like they are laughing at the funniest joke ever told. I'm in love with them. And another great thing. They came from Alaska. I've never gotten mail from Alaska before, that was as thrilling as my frogs. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Mary. They are going in Sam's garden just as soon as I finish digging it out, so she will be super happy too.

First thing I unwrapped was the cutest solar light...it's a flower with a Lady Bug so cute I love it. Did you pick it up at Big Lots??? I want to find some more like it for my front yard. It is just too cute to not have more!!
Then there is a bouncy solar frog like I sent my buddy, but mine is green. I'm happy to get that too because I was going to keep the one I sent my buddy, lol
Then a frog wind chime and a nice big Froggie to sit amongst my flowers

Took picture of them by some flowers but kind of hard to see, so took an in door one

Sweet froggies, Cindy! Your concrete garden looks nice too.

Hubby has spotted two Ruby-Throated Hummers. First one on April 3rd and one last week, both males. Scouts perhaps? My feeders went up early, I think in the first part of March. Patience isn't one of my virtues either, Carole. Put 'em up Bev, and they'll come...lol

Here's the link to this year's map if you'd like to report your RT sightings. There are maps for other hummers as well.

Joyce,
here is a better pic of my titled pots. This what I did, got two tree ring cement thingies, filled with dirt, planted flowers, ran a piece of rebar in the ground, then stacked the other pots. I'm about 3/4 finished with that side of the yard. Got too hot out had to quit for awhile. After the sun moves it will be shaded then I'll give it another go...maybe

Doug was fooling around with some 18k gold spray paint and sprayed the Angel, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! now I need to fix her up.
I'm going to kick his hind end but good for him

Oh no problem :-), I use acrylic paints. Delta ceramcoat the most, but there several different brands. Patio Paints by DecoArt is the best to use for your outside pots and things. After I'm done then I spray them with KRAYLON crystal clear gloss, then MINIWAX HELMSMAN spar urethane to protect them from all kinds of weather.
