Put me down, Susie, for a May trade with WWKathy. She's already just sent her part but I won't be sending mine for a couple of weeks since I'm rooting some things. This will keep me honest. Well, I'm honest, but you know what I mean.

I will probably be able to do another trade in May as well but will decide on that in a couple of weeks. ^_^

Pretty tulips! Mine are kaput after yesterday's rains.

I'll send 2 boxes in May, Susie, 3 if you need me to.

Where is everybody else? Planting last month's loot? I just knew this page would have been half-full already.

My 'May Night' is blooming too. Lovely plant, I think.

Hopefully more folks will be along to sign up. May is such nice weather for shipping plants. Well, usually. All bets are off this year.

'Double Pink Knockout' and Opuntia humifusa preparing to bloom. Recognize that one, Sooz? I laid a few of the pads down on the ground and they rooted over winter and are all growing, budding, putting up new pads. :)

Please add me for May, Susie. I have quite a few things in my ws'ing that are growing very well, and am going to the 23rd Annual Herbal Affair here in SS tomorrow. I've only been once before but the have about 3 blocks worth of venders with all kinds of veggies and plants. I may be able to pick up some things there too. Box may be toward the end of may as some of my ws'ing are just on their germination leaves, but in a month they should be big plants. Thanks!

Carole, your pads are looking great! New neighbors moved in last month where I stole them, but they work during the day if you want more...lol

Our largest local strawberry farm re-opened for the season yesterday, going to 'pick my own' gallon or three early next week, hoping to still be able to get large ones. You know it's Spring when strawberries are ready to pick and Vidalia Onions magically appear in the grocery stores. Both are a month early here too, Susie.

Welcome to Dave's Garden, Holly! This is a fun generous group of gardeners and am glad you found us.

You know what ticked me off, Carole? Right after the fruits set last year, I was upstairs and noticed a couple of teenagers walking by who were pulling them off for fun. Whatever happened to just kicking rocks?

Susie, they're hardy to Zone 4, Should I wrestle a couple of pads for you?

Hi hollysmama and welcome to this bunch of fanatical plant swappers. Really fun. I just can't stay away from this great group. :-D)))

Susie, yes, outside all year around. You never have to feed them or pay any attention to them. They are truly carefree. Just plant them out of the way due to their formidable thorns and glochids ... and handle with care. Nothing bothers them and they're great if you have an area you want to protect from intrusion, etc. Works like a charm as a boundary or fence of sorts. Plus you can make wonderful Prickly Pear Jam out of those ripe fruits. :-)

Fiddlesticks, Sooz, I know we were all kids once upon a time, but occasionally I just want to knock some youthful heads together.

Here's a Prickly Pear I'm growing that's smooth to the touch. Opuntia 'Ellisana' I still haven't gotten to the point I completely trust it though. lol. But so far, so good.

Does weeding ever end? I spend Saturday morning weeding before the rain started and need do the same thing when we dry out after three consecutive days of rain. Cannas are sprouting in the bags and are screaming to be planted. With our crazy weather, I hope it's not too early to plant them. Several towns NW of us had snow today. Hubby built a fire today and the heat feels so good. I'm inclined to think that's a Verbena but somebody more knowledgable will know for sure.

Lovely blooms as always, Kathy.

Just talked to Amanda and our trade for May is a go. Please note my third box is for her, Susie.

Love that 'Tasmanian Tiger'!

It was cold here yesterday too but no s--- although east TN got some. Started off in the high 30s but with windchill and wind blowing, it was just too uncomfortable to work outside. :( I need to get my cannas planted too.

Chickweed took over the world here this past winter, and I don't how much of that I've pulled this year.

Does look like Verbena. 'Homestead Red' maybe, but that's a sheer guess. :-)

Susie, people are selling seed for the 'Paprika' but from what I've read, they don't often come true from seed. It's a fairly new cultivar but it is taking off for me this year. I may be able to take some divisions later on. :)

Carole, your Weigela blooms are so pretty and delicate looking. On my way to town last week, I noticed several huge ones blooming. There were white-blooming mounding shrubs too along the way...their name escapes me at the moment. My knowledge of shrubs, along with a lot of other plants, is pitiful and only have a few Nandina 'Firepower' planted that I picked up at HD last month.

This morning I followed hubby to the shop where he gets oil changed in his truck. It was chilly and had the heat on in my Explorer. It felt like a different day a few hours later when we both shed sweatshirts and changed into lighter weight clothing. Rains are on the way again and took advantage of the Sun between trips by starting to dig plants for my May partners and pot them up temporarily. Also received a replacement order of plants from Bluestone last week. Just as I was planting the last one, the shop called to let us know hubby's truck was ready to go.

If anybody's watching and you haven't signed up yet, you ought to throw your hat in the ring. This is the absolute best way I know how to share plants and expand your own gardens.

When's the cut-off date for sign-up's, Susie? The Orange Iris came from you, didn't take time to check the tag since it was starting to rain. The other I think is 'Velvet and Peaches' you gave me, Maxine.

Nice find, Susie. I passed on a Strawberry jar my gardening girlfriend offered this morning. She has a few small plain old hens and chicks and a couple of sedums I've shared with her and know she'll be able put her extra pot to good use when they're ready to divide.

As we were strolling her gardens and the rain really started to pour, she reached down and ripped out a start of her Ice Plant for me to try, really sweet of her and it has fuchsia blooms. Ice Plants grew wild on the CA coast when I lived there and am glad to finally have one for my garden.

Amanda...Why, soil too wet? If that's the problem might try adding some builders sand ( is more square than play sand which is round and more easily compacted, use lots so you don't create cement) to the planting hole, am thinking they prefer a drier situation so ya might have to create it for them (not sure about the winters in NC). Fat (thick) leaves are an indicator of drought tolerant plants and hate wet feet, they much prefer to thrive on neglect, lol.

Raining here tonight, yeah, got some annual vines planted today: Mina lobata, Nasturtium canary creeper, Basella rubra, Lagenaria (apple gourd), Dolochos lab lab, Ippomea scarlet o'hara, Cardiospurmum (love in a puff), green beans, Lathrus heavenly goddess and high scent, ran out of time and will have to finish this weekend, 'spose to be raining in the morning.

Hi Everyone,
I just found this forum thanks to WWKathy! I've been searching trade lists -- looking for people who "want" what I "have" and then asking them individually!
So -- I'm not sure what happens next but I'd love to trade and I can do several trades in May of the plants on my "have" list as those are plentiful in my gardens.

Hi Candi, I've already committed to four boxes in May, but will be glad to swap or trade with you in June if that works for you.

I hope your home and vehicles weren't damaged, Alana. Hail can do a number in a very short amount of time. Sorry you have to wait longer to see your new Irises blooming. The ones in your photos are stunners. A few daylilies added two years ago I haven't seen bloom yet either...darn deer.

I miss my old garden, the one here... well it's doesn't qualify... ugh... i'd take some pics if i wasn't so embarrassed of the disrepair this house has fallen into. :( at least I have a home & people who love me, & now i'm taking over their yard!!! :)

Does anyone know how to root running Bamboo? Every time I take my granddaughter to the Knoxville Zoo I think about taking a cutting and finally got around to when I took her this afternoon. I have it in a glass of water until I do a little probing to see how to handle it.
It is very invasive, but I am hoping to contain it in a large container.

Kathy
Beautiful coreopsis! I love that flower...mine got a little over grown from wild daisy last year...of which I've pulled out this year so I hope the coreopsis will do better this year!

Attached is a photo of my phlox from last spring...they haven't flowered yet this spring! The pink clumps you see were all one plant that had to be moved when we did some all work a few years ago...so I took out the giant phlox plant (it was VERY happy where it was) and had to divide it up...it looked terrible and I spent that summer thinking I killed the poor thing! And that area only gets about 4 hours of sun each day -- so not the best place! But it seems to like it there!

I am so happy to be able to trade with people in the group! Yahoo and thanks for tell me about it!

Crystal, Susie's plant swaps from April to September are for Perennials, and yes you choose your Partner. It's a direct swap where you will "send to" and "receive from" the same person. The numbers next to our names indicate how many boxes we're able to share in May.

If any of you are interested in joining the Houseplants / Tropicals swap and haven't done so already, here's the link. Hope to see you there as well:

Hi Susie,
I can swap with Oberon46 -- not sure if I have anything she'd like but we live in the same zone...I love her "have's" but I don't have any of her wants... Oberon46 -- want to take a look as what I've got and LMK if you want to be trade partners???

Very nice, hollysmamma. Is the second plant with the caudex in your first post of pics a Desert Rose or something else? And I love that Pink & Green Pencil plant in the second group, or whatever it's name is. I bet a lot of folks would like to see more of your houseplants/ tropicals on our Spring thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1253610/

Susie, since you'd requested Penstmom "Red Husker's" in a D-mail and already have it, what if I substitute Penstemon smallii Beardtongue 'Violet Dusk' in your May box? Thinking back, I W/S'd Red Husker's two years ago and know the seeds were in one of your Robins. They very well may have come from you.

scarletbean, I've had the pleasure to meet Amanda in person numerous times. She's a sweetheart, a super friend to everyone she meets, and even has a quirky sense of humor. Well a big quirlky sense of humor. That's probably what I love about her the most.

Ain't that right, Manda!

Yeah, Froot - the thing that I like best is making you laugh. Sometimes I have to try really hard to break that grown-up exterior of yours. The quirk comes in handy then, when my "regular crowd" humor fails. ;)

Welcome scarletbean (Jessica!). This will be fun. Fruity was my mentor when I started to get more involved last year. If you learn anything from me, remember that I learned it all from Susan.

Have a good night all. It's HOT and humid here. I am not ready for this and I can't say the "O" word on DG, but sitting in the car in the air conditioning was just about. -sigh-

um-hum, you must be thinking about the word Organic 0:)

It was downright humid last night with a blanket of fog this morning, and will be the same again tonight and in the morning. The windows are open but what I wouldn't give for a little breeze. Oh yeah, the weather liars got it wrong. We barely reached 60 when we were supposed to be in the mid-70's. I spread mulch while it was sprinkling rain this afternoon. It was the "really, really, really" fine stuff that just messes up your glasses (along with fogging them up) or ticks you off having to turn on windshield wipers.

Likely the same kind that messes up your hair and melts your gel/serum/hair spray into a frizz bomb.

FOTV, that is one of my desert roses :D I have 4 of them, two are that big and two are slightly smaller. I also have 4 seedlings going. I will go ahead and share some of the photos there. That is a 'Firesticks' cactus (at least that is what the tag said) It will go back to all green this summer I believe and the tips turn red in the winter.
